If you need more clarification about some aspects, you can book some classes. After you've acquired the necessary basic skills, immerse yourself in EXTENSIVE reading and listening. The way I do it, I pick up a book in two versions, English and French. I read a part of the French text (one paragraph), and of course, I will not understand it 100%, but I will have some idea perhaps. Then I check my understanding against the English version. I then compare the English against the French text, and I try to decipher the French text. After doing this for so long, you will need to consult the English text much less. I suggest you start doing this with Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince), then move on to longer and more complex texts. With listening, you have to do something similar.

French is a very hard language to learn specially at advanced ages, You should dedicate atleast 2 hours per day for learning this language and blend with fraucs ( francophones) as much as possible, and you will be good in 6 to 12 months, don't pay much attention to grammar because it is so hard and will distract you at your early stages.
