The "poor eating" segment is the best. Eating healthy and eating the right volume and mix of calories is a something we try to do every day. This helps with physical mobility and helps us maintain target weight without effort or angst. Our jeans tell us the truth about our weight, not the scale. Fresh air and hard work doing chores and other outdoor physical activity not only burns calories, but also unclutters the mind. People cannot believe it when we tell them we are in our early 60's. "You can't be that old, you look so healthy!". No higher compliment. :-)
Like many folks, I worked 36+ years at same company "with my head down (doing more for the company each year) and at age 60, I retired with "burn out" health problems on Feb 29 2024. Since then, I've been watching your many videos before bed time and think about your messages - to slowly let your info-shares sink into my thick skull. Love ALL your vidoes / messages. Thank you for making me think "outside my norm" and see different perspectives for my future life choices. Thank You.
Hi. We appreciate you so much and happy we are helping you think outside the box. We work hard on that every day. It stimulating to the brain and body. We are happy you are here.
My husband retired, a year later I retired, a year after that my husband gets cancer. We are waiting for the cancer to go away so that we can get back to the happy place. 😢
We are sorry to hear about your husband and hope he recovers quickly so you can both enjoy retirement together. Unexpected illnesses can be extremely heartbreaking and I know many of us in this community can relate to those challenges. Wishing you both the best.
Hey Penny- Retirement is defined as “Ceasing to Work”. Never asked them to give their money away to charity. Just saying they are not “FULLY retired”. They have topics to copy, videos to shoot, deadlines to meet to keep the cash coming in with their UA-cam channel. Good for you if you need this Advice via UA-cam in your retirement.
Consider a more flexible definition of retirement, for me it is having the financial freedom, physical and mental health to engage in the passions and activities that make you happy
I totally agree on health and doing all aspect from food, strength, agility, flex/stretch and cardio. Not just part. I'm confident chronic conditions would be less.. Strong muscles are great but in a fall, if they don't stretch enough when needed, can add pressure to bones/joints/etc., for added damage. As always, exercising the mind muscle to keep it strong too. I started changing my residence more intensely to fit my needs, when I moved past the employed years. Lighter, brighter, more refreshing. Cleaner lines and even less stuff. I never had that much stuff around, but with the added hours at home to notice, it seems like more. As I figure out my needs, try new things, activities, what doesn't fit, is out of here.
When you retire you have twenty years or more of good life without the worry of having to put food on the table. You can do a lot in that time, think how much you did in your first twenty years, but so many retirees fritter the time away. We have had a fantastic twenty years of retirement so far and it does make me sad to see how many waste the opportunity and particularly let their health slide through a sedentary lifestyle and poor diet. Many people, and even retirement experts, seem to treat health as a predetermined destiny but how long you stay healthy and active and out of hospitals is largely up to you.
I'm with Mark - I know myself well enough to know I NEED something to do or I will either go stark raving mad or become a total sloth! And yes, I also meditate on a regular basis. Have you tried EFT (tapping)? Also great! I need to work for my social connections. Living in an extremely small (like living with extended family small), isolated community I have few opportunities locally to socialize without working outside of the community. All great ideas - thanks for sharing!
Hello! Thanks for giving enlightenment tips for my forth retirement ! Please keep on giving great ideas for the retirees some might need this kind of thoughts,God bless you
Thank you for your kind words! We’re so glad the tips were helpful for you. We’ll definitely keep sharing more ideas for retirees. Is there any specific topic you'd like us to cover next?
Thank you guys!...I start my "Retirement Journey " on August 1st & after I share this video with my cousin , ❤I'm going to schedule in my once-year-check up + obtain a gym membership...(Last time I had a gym membership was 30 years ago)😊
We’re delighted to hear about your exciting plans for retirement. Best wishes for your check-up and getting back to the gym-it sounds like you’re starting this new chapter with great enthusiasm!
Another really good video😊And, Jody and Mark, I truly enjoy your little verbal fights, they are so funny and always make me smile😃 But what I love most is, that you really listen to each other. That is so important! And it really doesn't happen often nowadays- even with friends. But there is one more thing, I want to mention: Please also check your doctor for the eyes(I don't know the english word). This is really important, because there sometimes can be high inner eye pressure or something like that without feeling it.
Retirement is wonderful because you have more time to focus on the things that are important to you....but don't wait! It's always a good time to prioritize your health.
Tofu is a soybean curd. It is very versatile and can take the place of scrambled eggs. Scrambled tofu, onion, extra virgin olive oil, basil, mrs. Dash. It is a wonderful meal!
Thank you so much for the kind words! We're glad you're finding the videos helpful as you prepare for your retirement. Wishing you and your husband all the best on this exciting journey!
You two are great. I am not planning on retiring for a few years but your videos are excellent preparation for the future. I just discovered you today. I am so glad I did. 😊
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re glad our videos are helping you prepare for the future. It’s great to hear you found us and that we could be of assistance. Best of luck with your retirement planning! 😊
Thank you, Elizabeth! It’s comforting to know we’re not alone in these thoughts, isn’t it? So glad the podcast resonated with you. God bless, and sending warm wishes your way! ♥️🇨🇦😊
Why retire at all? Isn't the purpose of life to take on as much responsibility as possible and delivering on it? I mean....Im 38, and don't plan on ever retiring. I do plan on not working for someone else soon, but for myself. But I cannot imagine "retiring". My dad got 1 year from retirment and dropped dead of a heart attack at 59. His dad retired and mammaw died that next year of cancer. I know so many people who retire then just die. I plan on getting up at 6am every morning the rest of my life and have something to work towards.
Well I agree with you. We retired from our decades long career and now run this channel. We also mix in times with our kids and focus on good healthy habits. It’s a balance of work and play that seems to work best.
@@RetirementTransformed Yeah, I think for me, if I sit too long, I lose purpose. No purpose equals depression, and getting lost in my thoughts. Get too deep into thoughts and you end up in nihilism.
You cannot at your age really know that you will get up at 6am and "never retire" But I commend you for having that plan. Life can hit you in the back of the head. I hope this is not the case for you.
When I was 38, I didn't think I would ever retire, either. I'm 67, & 2 years away from my "late in life" government job. In 2 more years, I'll be fully vested and I'll be DONE 😂
@@RetirementTransformed “Letting go of the past” if I had to select one segment. As a team, you have a logical and penetrating way of presenting concepts that resonates and motivates. I appreciate the very hard work, thought process that goes into each video, especially with your busy schedule. Heartfelt appreciation and thanks.
how do u stand the heat and humidity in florida? i was born and raised there and when i was 58 i left. i was stuck there for years for different reasons. i lived in clearwater, sarasota and jacksonville and i'll never go back. i'm moving to santa fe new mexico on june 2nd. traveling europe and asia now.
Having spent 64 years living in the northeast I’m living the constant warm weather and cold water. But I get what you say. It does get hot in the summer
Wow! You ARE NOT REALLY retired:( You have a business going here… So you just changed “jobs”! My husband & I are actually & honestly FULLY retired 7 plus years now. We enjoy our health, our family & friends. We are busy “giving back” and fill our days enjoining our FULL retirement. Maybe you see yourself “giving back with your UA-cam channel, however your profiting off this (you even mentioned “oh that’s really a WORK TRIP”) So you are STILL ON THE JOB. You might consider taking your own advice & really enjoy a FULL retirement soon😁and maybe you could even give back by volunteering…. Just a thought from an experienced retiree.
Hi @runnergirl4309. We definitely have retired from our first careers that demanded so much of our time and energy. We enjoyed that time in our lives and now enjoy a balanced life for free time to play golf, pickleball, work on our physical wellness, travel and see our six kids and grandchildren. And we also love what we are doing here with our UA-cam channel to share what we are experiencing and learning about healthy aging, and a fulfilling retirement.
I by no means am bashing my deceased dad. I’m sorry it came across like that. But my dad was an alcoholic and I believe if he had stopped drinking, ate better, focused on exercise, and worked on his mental health, he would be alive today. He was my best friend while he was alive and I’m grateful for all I learned from him.
Worry about work: I'm 38 and don't even worry about the work I have now as a civil engineer. Work isn't worth the stress, a job is to make your money and nothing more.
We find that what we are doing now in retirement feels different than when we had our full time stressful jobs. But that’s us. Everyone goes through life with different experiences and feelings. You are not alone in your thinking.
Enjoy you and your videos. You are apparently retired but honestly, you don’t dress like retired folks. Would love to see you two occasionally with more of a “casual” vibe. It would make you more relatable IMO.
