  • Adam Armbrecht is joined by Jackson Gatlin from Locked On Rockets for. a sobering perspective on Houston and their offseason. Yes, the Rockets want to improve their roster and Mikal Bridges is on the target board but Jackson paints a clear picture of a team that wants to improve, but is by no means desperate.
    With a weak 2024 NBA Draft class, Houston does find themselves in a tight. spot, holding the third overall pick while preferring to land veteran talent. Even in the Nets for Phoenix pick-swap scenario, there is some indication 2025 would. be a sticking point.
    Most of the chatter is coming out of Houston to this point, but it will be a fascinating lead up to the Draft, where once again Sean Marks will be in the drivers seat of the Brooklyn Nets future.

The point was that you can't predict the nets will be bad throughout the entirety of the time the rockets control their draft. Biting the bullet is the move right now. Do the Bridges, DFS and maybe the Philly 1st in 27 for Dillon Brooks, Jeff Green, Lonsdale if you need to and your pick control 25,26,27....Simmons goes off the books. Let Claxton walk....You'll have 3 first rounders in 25 and enough money to offer someone a max contract. And you can pair that with Clowney, Whitehead, Cam Johnson, Cam Thomas etc.

    Dudes...The Rockets core 6 is touchable, because they cannot resign them all. The Rockets will have to make a choice and the most obvious is between Green and Sengun. I hope they move Green and move Cam to SG fulltime, then draft Reed to backup PG & SG.
    BTW, you say the Rockets are pushing a Nets trade is not necessarily a reality. Stone is not stupid.

    • @LockedOnNets
      @LockedOnNets  3 місяці тому +1

      For sure, but not at this moment. There is time to make those choices beyond this offseason.
      We said Houston is pushing the narrative, 100% true as Nets have not made any calls, or vocalized any internet this offseason outside of wanting to move DFS for a pick. Houston is shopping right now, and working all the angles as they should.

    • @NOJSIP
      @NOJSIP 3 місяці тому

      @@LockedOnNets Of course, they have some time. They will make a decision on moving JG by the trade deadline or risk to lose him for nothing, unless they intend to resign him. JG's play will determine this. I don't see them moving Sengun. Here is a comment I wrote elsewhere as a Rockets' fan ...Would love your opinions on it:
      Trading Brooks is not gonna happen. I don't even see that the Rockets have been serious about getting Bridges or any other vet to replace Brooks. I believe that most of this Bridges to Houston is just rumors and a lot of it is Nets fans looking for ways to get the Nets' picks back, because they now realize how bad the Harden trade was.
      As for the Rockets, the only thing bad about Brooks is the length of his contract and that is not really a big problem. 3 more years, but it drops from 22.2m to 19.9m as the league cap goes up (another great move by Stone). On the other hand, Bridges' contract is also 3 more years, but it rises from 21.7m to 24.9m. That is 5 more million on the books in year 3 on a team that will be looking hard to save cap space anywhere, so they can keep as many of their young core 6 (7 if they draft at #3 and not trade JG) together for a long term run.
      BTW, (for after next season) Stone had positioned several vet contracts that can come off the books and this is very telling of their intended direction: FVV 42.8m (optionable), Adams 12.6m, Landale 8m (optionable), Jeff Green 8.0m and Tate 7.5m. This totals to 78.9m that they can split between Sengun and JG or just resign Sengun, which will give them more options with vets for the following season(s) and for resigning Eason and Smith...then Amen and Cam...then the #3 pick (I hope Reed). I think JG is the first odd man out, then they will have to decide again on the young core (more than once). Bridges only makes this good problem worst.
      In addition, I believe that the Rockets will keep Brooks for all the right reasons, including vet leadership and having great chemistry with Stephen Adams (for next season). The combination of FVV, Brooks and Adams is a huge positive factor (especially when you have only one year with Adams and Brooks together) for a playoff run next season, for which Adams and Brooks have done together twice as a 2nd seed in Memphis. This you cannot get with Bridges replacing Brooks just for a marginable increase of talent at starting SF...don't forget they have excellent options at SF on the bench already.
      All the moves that Stone has done are very calculated with the future in mind...this is oblivious and that is his MO, which he is not going to change. To me, Stone is the best (GOAT) GM that the Rockets have ever had and I have been a fan since 1972 when they came to Houston. I have seen all the rosters, coaches and GMs and right now is the best I have ever seen minus Rudy T and the two years they won with Hakeem. Plus, the Rockets have a great chance to surpass those years in winning...roster and coach...they already did on the GM.

    The 2025 swap isn't just a mystery box scenario. The Thunder own a swap with the Rockets. If the Rockets relinquish that swap, they're going from a possible lotto pick to the late twenties. There's a very clear and specific downgrade to the move. So when that swap gets included in mock trades, seemingly as a thrown-in, that needs to be recognized and addressed. Hence, why it gets put in by national media types and rejected by Rockets fans.

    From a Rockets fan perspective: I don't see any way to actually add Mikal Bridges to the starting lineup/rotation WITHOUT moving Dillon Brooks. They basically fulfill the exact same role and position Houston would want from them. Bridges is just a better player with a significantly smaller technical foul risk. I say that as someone who loves Dillon Brooks and everything he did for us last season. He was actually really good in the locker room and had zero off the court issues. To me, at least 3, maybe 4, of the young players are tradeable but the Dillon Brooks rotation situation has to be cleared up first before a Bridges trade can happen. Then you have consider that we aren't down on any of the young players and we think they can either be almost as good/better than Mikal Bridges, or that they fill an extremely important role for the team long term. The easiest way to explain it for me is, They are tradeable, but I'm more than willing to keep them. So it'd have to be a pretty big deal to include them in a trade and while I do like Mikal Bridges as a player, he's not a big enough deal to move those young guys, especially while they still have Dillon Brooks playing the exact same spot in the starting lineup and rotation that we'd want Bridges to do.
    And for the guys in the livechat who were worried about Houston's Salary outlook going forward. You really don't have to. FVV's on a team option next season and Dillons contract actually shrinks each season. Jalen Green will get a Max, even if some fans like me would be very upset by it. Sengun will probably get a max too. Jabari Smith Jr. however won't be offered a max unless he explodes. He'll still be offered a good contract though, and Tari Eason will be offered a good but reasonable contract, but if he decides to leave in RFA, they'll grudgingly let him go. As of right now, with no changes, The Rockets really don't have to worry about salary until it's time for Cam Whitmore and Amen Thompson's extension talks to start. In fact the only thing that kind of throws a wrench in the salary would be the 12million+ the #3 pick this year automatically gets. Which is one of the biggest reasons Houston even wants to trade the pick.
    Again, I'm just trying to provide you with the mindset of a Rockets fan in regards to a Mikal Bridges trade. I don't think Mikal Bridges is a shit player like some fans who are pissed off about the trade suggestions are, and I would be happy to have him on the team. But this is the outlook I have based on where the Rockets currently are and it makes no sense to trade for Bridges if it destabilizes the team in doing so.
