Honestly, all three of them are amazing players, but I can see why Radek Stodja won. He really balanced out the technical aspects of his playing, and there is a ton of feeling in every note. This would have been a really hard decision, were it mine to make. Bravo! 🍻
Great phrasing wins, present playing, knowing where you are, where you want to go, and holding those proper notes without needless shredding, and making the notes COUNT....GOLD.
3rd place sounded like a fusion of jazz and prog rock - all 3 were killer. Great choices! I'd love to see a video with more entries- especially some with different instruments!
That's a great idea - maybe I should do a video highlighting some "honorable mentions" that didn't quite make it to the top but that I still enjoyed for different reasons
@Per Nilsson Hey man, hope all is well! Any chance you can get hold of the new Strandberg Boden Essential and make a review for us people that are interested in Strandberg guitars but until now have not had that kind of money to buy one ? I feel you are one of the greatest guitarist on this planet and since you are endorsed by Strandberg and have played them for years now, It only seems right that you should make an honest review about the new "cheaper" guitar and give your honest opinions about it. I am very interested in the new Boden Essential and would really like your take on that guitar and hear you play it and hear what it can do with a great pilot behind it Thanks in advance Per and take care 🤘
First place was well deserved, the solo was perfectly fitting for that part of Chrononautilus, with some daring moves and without trying to sound similiar to the original solo. The technique was so great as well. 2nd place was hilarious, great ideas and it fits in the song in a peculiar way with all the editing and all the stuff. Really liked when he returned to the main riff, he really built the solo to make it fit seemlessly it seems! Nice touch 3rd place was as good as the others imo, the solo was sick throughout the whole section, maybe even too brutal for the song but that's his style I assume! The variance between seemingly incompatible licks was great and so well executed. I wish someone soloing Digiphrenia Dawn made to top 3, maybe we could see some honorable mentions in the future!
Exactly what you said! Yes a bit of a shame that we didn't have a Digiphrenia solo in the top 3, people seemed to prefer Scorched and Chrono AND Digiphrenia is the more difficult track
All 3 covers were mind blowing, my eardrums really vibe to #2's cover the most. Also appreciate the little joke Per slipped in there about shredded pants 😂
Incredible playing by all 3 of these guys. It was very close between them in my opinion, it must have been hard to narrow it down! Absolutely stellar! The future of electric guitar is safe!
It wasn't actually all that difficult - I love all three finalists but the #1 REALLY spoke to me, it was no question that he was the number one to me. There were other entries that were super amazing too of course but #2 and #3 really stood out and I wasn't considering anyone else for those positions
I love how the winner actually used phrasing!!!! So much weedly weedly lately, a constant barrage… this was super tasteful, never notes for the sake of notes… some note choices that were surprising but in a great way. Awesome
All 3 solos were great, but I agree that Radek really shined with just a perfect balance of shredding and melodic licks, the other guys are absolutely incredible, but played a bit too many notes :)
As ace as all three finalists were, I can see why the winner was crowned as such. Nice mix of more conventional melody lines used alongside modern techniques and note choices/runs that slap you to check you're still listening properly!
Per: turn off autofocus and have a friend manually focus the camera on your face. If you autofocus, the camera will focus on your mic rig and your face will be blurry. Your mic is in perfect focus in this video.
Honestly, I do not understand the outcome of this contest. While I do think that the top 3 players are overall good players, I do not think that those were the ones with a great technique and musicality. For example, you comment "yeah man" while the winner makes an incredibly nasty row of bends which are out of tune from minute 2:17 in the video. The runner-up didn't even properly finish his solo and ended the video with a weird glitch effect. I do not think that anybody of them had a good combination of technique AND proper composing and balance between shred or faster lines, musical, catchy melodies and adequate chord changes / scales. This outcome of the contest only encourages more shred, less musicality, no focus on proper important techniques like correct bends, phrasing and feeling and it strongly discourages those who have it all or at least on a much greater level. I can only name @SYNDRONE and @eayottes for example.
"Incredibly nasty row of bends" 😅 There was ONE bend where our winner is SLIGHTLY sharp but I didn't mind that; in fact I was happy to hear a take where something like that wasn't edited/pitch-corrected - it just proves that it is an authentic performance. There were other entries that were amazing technically and musically but I could tell that notes had been edited which is a no-no for me in a contest context, and other entries that would've been amazing hadn't the performer misinterpreted the backing track (for example, the I chord in Scorched Quadrant has a major seventh and I do NOT particularly favor mixolydian in that context). It's perfectly fine and expected that everyone won't agree with my choice of winners - our tastes and standards vary obviously!
@@ScarGuitar Our tastes and standards vary indeed, however facts do not vary. There were very clearly edited parts in the second place video where the hand movements in the video did not always correspond to the heard notes. For example, in 6:04, a vibrato can be heard but that wasn't seen in the video at all. He didn't do it with his hand nor with the whammy bar. And in 5:58, there is a vibrato and slide-down, but the slide-down goes much further than what can be heard. In the third place video, it was played so much outside that it's inconsistent to say you do NOT favour a particular scale but enjoy much more notes "not being correct".
@@TheHouseofDeepPurple I missed those inconsistencies but I still love the solo and think it is well worthy of the #2 place. I would have preferred to hear the performance in its original unedited version though. Ultimately the choice of winners were at my sole discretion (though I had some help from the Guitar Messenger team), it is a given that not everyone will agree with me - our tastes and standards do differ as we have agreed upon 😊 If you would like to see a different outcome I'm afraid you will need to hold your own solo contest 😊 Thank you for sharing your views! I plan on making another video where I highlight some of the performances that didn't quite make it to the top three - maybe some of your favourites will end up there 😍
I am honored just to hear you talk about my solo brother, forever grateful! Thanks to all the contestants and a big hug from Argentina!
Sick hybrid picking bro. Nicely done!
Tu solo está enfermo, me encantó.
Felicitaciones! 👏
Fantastic solo! Marty Friedman vibes. Really liked both the harmonic choices and tonal shaping.
Fantastic solo!

I can see why the first guy won. He had the perfect balance on technicality and restrained phrasing.
The 2nd place definitely created some unforgettable melodies. So nice❤!
Incredible players, super inspiring!
thanks a lot man, i´m honoured!
Radek.
That was beautiful! Thank you!
Congrats to the winners. Radek played it perfect for me. Not playing notes for the sake of playing notes. Notes played were perfect sounding also.
Amazing performances from everyone involved - awesome work everyone!
Congrats to all winners! 🤘🏻🥳
Congrats Radek, killer solo....! =)
I'am so honoured! Thanks man❤
Figo che ci sia un italiano sul podio!
For me you won that contest. Your solo is perfection for this song.
I hear a bit of a Roy Ziv influence in your solo, are you a fan? :P

I loved the runners up. 3rd place has so mad chops. Killer outside vibes as well.
I love how the first place solo lets it breathe but still shreds and that tasteful 2:33 part really tingled my jazz heart * chef's kiss *
Incredible! Congratulations to everyone!
Insane playing by many here. The future of guitar appears in safe hands!
Amazing work everyone!

Great competition by one of music’s top guitarists. Listen to Per’s work with Kaipa guys, what a solo, fluid sound he has.
Top-notch players!! Love this competition result. Congrats and good luck for the winners!
Absolutely stellar entries!
Just massive amounts of talent!
I always come back to listen to the second place solo, so soulful. Evokes such awe whenever I hear it. Bravo mario!
Wow, that was fantastic

HI PER!!
Increíble todos los guitarristas!! una lokura lo que tocan!!!! 🤯🤯🤯
Congrats guys! Such sick solos. Thanks for the fun contest man!
Radek Stojda, seems to be RUF guitars. Polish guy going to a "Jazz" class at a University? Tasty as hell for sure. Plays in Artis Symphony orchestra?
Great job guys, all 3 performances were stellar
Very tasteful
incredible !! very beautyfull !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JFC. The way the baseline level of technique has increased since the dawn of the Internet is absolutely ridiculous.
Fantastic solo!
incredible playing by all 3!

Phenomenal shredding gentlemen 🫡

3rd place so sik! Damn!🤘
Congrats to the winners! Lots of work to do, lots of practice and learning 🧐
That was clean as fuck. Classic rock shred but done proficiently. Great tone and very tight, well deserved.
That was goddamn amazing, I especially liked #2
Thanks for the competition, such amazing entries! I was nowhere close to these amazing guys, but It was really fun to give it a shot!
He plays a Polish brand's guitars - RUF. An interesting fact is, that they are not made of wood!
All 3 solos were great, but I agree that Radek really shined with just a perfect balance of shredding and melodic licks, the other guys are absolutely incredible, but played a bit too many notes :)
It's all about phrasing, man. It's something that's lacking in modern metal soloing, on the whole.
Everybody was really incredible to watch, that was some sick playing.
Thank you for hosting the contest Per along with the instructional course. 🤘
I don't know how you pick. I heard dozens of other players, and they all sounded just as good.
I thought 2nd place was better than 1st.
3rd place was in another category and does anyone know who it is?
I feel Mario (the runner up) was so much better than the winner I cannot even believe it.
The whole new scar symmetry album is recorded with plugins ?
Yes!
As ace as all three finalists were, I can see why the winner was crowned as such. Nice mix of more conventional melody lines used alongside modern techniques and note choices/runs that slap you to check you're still listening properly!
Dissonance leads to...more dissonance. I can hear why Radek won, memorable melodic lines.

My mic rig is younger and more good looking than I am so I don't mind it being the in the focus 😅 Thanks for the advice!
