i don't think that kid has a single clue what red herring means
Looks more like a blue falcon.
I don't even know what it means!
@@prodingus7282 Lemme help you out there....That phrase originated in jolly, old England when those who did not like fox hunting would sabotage the hunt by putting herring on the trails so the dogs would lose the scent. It basically means a tactic that puts one off the real issue at hand...a distraction to put one on the wrong path, if you will.
@@fouledanchorfarm1192 thanks for your explanation. I got some knowledge from the comment section.
Probably heard it from Pup named Scooby Doo
"I thought you had a red herring argument, then I realized I had no argument."
It'a like he just learned a few days ago what a red herring argument is and he's now trying to apply it everywhere.
What he was going for was false equivalency, but of course that would still be incorrect
I scanned over this comment at the moment he said it. Lol "ummm......."
Bow Tie was just looking for a way to incorporate "red herring" any way he can.
yet he had no idea how to
He is an idiot!
He just learned about a red herring argument in class and thought he should show off his liberal education.
People who wear Bow Ties, Vests, Suspenders, even French Cuffs...look like dicks
A good example of a psuedo intellectual.
“I think liberals are more open minded”

“Yeah, I think its both sides”
I facepalmed...
It's like the Patrick's wallet meme in real life
I've meet some who are. BUT THEY ARE AN EXTREME MINORITY BECAUSE WHEN THEY QUESTION ANYTHING THERE SHUT DOWN OR FED LIES
When in doubt, pretend objectivity and fairness by saying "both sides" even if both sides aren't engaging in the behavior. Ridiculous.

Shouldn’t they each get the $100 anyway, as a “participation” award?
It’s not fair to take away “their” $100.
They have to earn it. And they didn't
Dave, you had me laughing out loud. Good comment and on the mark.
Yeah being a millenial when I was a kid first competing in track and other sports as a little kid I was excited when heck I got third. Joke all you want about being 2nd loser I at least earned that 3rd. But then I noticed everyone else got participation trophies, and this being the first time I had seen it I asked why everyone else got one. For participating of course. Now to be fair it wasn't my generation handing them out.
I was so confused because I was like then what's the point of first second and third? Nobody had an answer for me. I tried different sports, but by the time I was ten I just was really annoyed about the whole thing. Nobody could figure out why i suddenly stopped going to these meets and took up writing instead. At least there i could decide for my characters in the stories not to get some stupid participation trophy and have realistic life struggles to overcome.
LOL
No. You want something, earn it.
Says a lot doesn't it?
What's interesting is the guy saying we(conservatives) aren't "open minded." Apparently disagreement or analysis of an issue is now not being open minded. I hear that nonsense often and it's quite irritating. Not bending over backwards and pandering without question doesn't represent a lack of open mindedness. Furthermore, holding healthy values and standards doesn't make you closed minded. I don't understand when that became an issue. One would say that the left is far more close minded than any group. Simply disgreement and reasoning is a problem with them now.
@parishcolin09 That's actually another lie they push. Sure there are some who completely deny climate change, but for those of us who are well read or at least are informed about it, we know it's a reality. What we don't like are government and international perscriptions that waste money or cede control, being called deniers simply because we don't parrot everything they tell us and asking questions, lying to us that not only is it mainly humans but pretending we can do anything about it outside of what we naturally should do, and not holding the charlatans in the movement responsible for openly fudging stats and facts to suit an agenda. Ben Shapiro actually did a segment about climate change just yesterday because of the newly released ICCP report from the UN, and the Nobel Peace Prize winner. The media is even covering that badly to push their climate change agenda. To this day I see people saying Crowder denies climate change when he doesn't, and has repeatedly has clarified his position with actual scientists on his show. The triggering of it is fun to do though. Lol
@parishcolin09 u troll CNN with logic and facts too? Thats awesome. I did that to cuckmo and lemonhead about kavanaugh being emotional and how he had 6 separate FBI and BAR investigations and not 1 has reported anything like sexual assault or anything there within. Nor anything he has done to not be able to become a lawyer judge or work for the president at the time. And ford has 2 witnesses that says no to fords story. And just now a dem sen. Told the truth about the slander smearing allegation towards kavanough. So the dems lied and its all fales. I got soo much hate from that. Oh well drinking more snowflake tears.
@parishcolin09 what was that lie? I dont think he did. I skip the slow parts and may have missed that. Being serious.
Wendell, it is the “simply disagreeing....” with them makes me deny they are liberals. They are leftists; they call for government intervention into nearly all aspects of an individual’s life. Somehow it seems they imagine they will be in control of the state once the changes they want are in place.
There is a complete disconnection with the ideas that identified with liberalism and these people’s expressed ideas. Their ideas are those of socialism . Classic liberalism was at the beginning of this country. The greatest difference is liberalism argues for the individual to be free but the individual should have compassion for the less fortunate. The classical liberal would not have involved the state into charity in the early 1800’s. It is only after 1910 did this get badly perverted bc it was combined with socialism. Now one can see the Democratic Party is headed to only socialism (end of that path is what is happening in Venezuela). Republicans also want a modest government set up safety net (this is some social programs supported by partially hampered capitalism operations, aka mixed economy) . I see no true limited government being called for in both parties. We have lost classical liberalism.
I am an independent who wants separation of state and everything except handling criminals & national defense. Where criminal has part of its definition of having a victim. I want Natural Law and once again abolish administrative law (aka regulatory law). I want the rule of law followed. All other aspects of society should revert to contract law. This nation’s economy was healthier.
@ The Truth, the climate changes all the time! It is human caused climate change that is in argument here. Please look up the cosmic radiation chart. Their are two major factors that set up this chart. One is the background cosmic radiation and the other is our local sun’s sunspots. Flip the chart upside down. Pull out the Earth’s temperature chart for the entire existence of the earth. Place the cosmic radiation modulated by the sun’s sunspots flipped upside down over the Earth’s temperature chart. They track. Those are the forces that dictate the Earth’s temperature. It is NOT HUMAN MADE!!!!!!!! Humans have no control.
Sunspot minimums predict cold weather on the Earth and we are due. London’s Thames River will freeze over again in a mid winter before another decade passes. We are due!
Safe bet.... $100 back in yur pocket. Woulda been better had the students had to bet money also, you could get rich quick on that question.
This is a stupid and pointless video. Most universities are inherently left leaning (both in student demographic and professors) therefore any conservative speaker is more likely to be controversial. To find an example of conservatives shutting down a liberal speaker you’d likely need a highly conservative university that invites a liberal speaker which is super rare. Can you name more than 5 highly conservative universities and can you name one liberal speaker who was invited?
Gray Whale you accidentally presented a whole new problem. People often complain that colleges try to enforce political means more than they should. Repeatedly trying to make the students left wing. The fact that there’s little conservative dominant colleges really speaks to that
But there are conservatives here and there at these strongly left colleges and the fact remains. They don’t protest the other side’s ideas. They respect free speech and fear the backlash of saying anything different so they say nothing at all
TanTan, I’m going to push back on the idea that colleges and universities administrations are overly political and try and convert their students. When was the last time a college or university took a political move that didn’t involve the direct protection of their student body? Very rarely does a university come outright condemn a political party.
That being said, the professors tend to be left leaning, especially in the humanities and social sciences. However, I think you would be hard pressed to find any real data to show that professors are either told to be left leaning or that the university explicitly hires left leaning phDs disproportionately to the number of left leaning phDs applying. As it turns out, most phDs and people with higher education are left leaning. Universities hire based off research.
In terms of the conservative students that are there. I wish that they were able to feel safe to share their ideas. However, it must be taken into consideration that sometimes those ideas, or the speakers who want to come and talk about those ideas often say things that threaten the schools student body.
For example, the idea of banning people from entry from certain countries directly threatened many students and professors at schools. Students were left stranded at airports and told to return home. Professors were unable to enter to conduct research.
Other ideas, such as not acknowledging different gender identities fly in the face of scientific and academic research and threatens the students who have already made very difficult steps to feel safe enough to share their beliefs.
Many minority groups are much more at risk to face violent assault, rape, and murder in comparison to conservative students. I wouldn’t equate the uncomfortableness and social ostracization of a conservative student to the physical safety of a minority or lgtbq student.
While I don’t want the conservative student to feel socially ostracized, it is important to remember the potential consequences to other members of the student body.
@@graywhale922 Spoken like a true liberal Nazi 😮😛

I have. Some people are really annoying on social media.
@Tiffany Wart Yeah. When people spam social media about how terrible they think our country is and how "silence is violence" I get sick of hearing it. I will not continue to follow someone on social media after they call everyone who doesn't support their radical agenda racist. I'm fine with casual political commentary but some people take it too far. I didn't follow them to be lectured by them.

i agree, but i think its important to keep in mind that one side isn't particularly right or wrong. opinions are opinions and both sides saying each other is inherently wrong is the reason we are so separated.
@Erik The Existor In a society where all adults are able to vote, all adults should keep themselves adequately informed. Those who don't are shirking a major portion of their responsibility to be good citizens.
Let's shut down a bunch of colleges. They don't seem to be turning out any students worth hiring.

Sadly, when Richard Dawkins was scheduled to speak at Oklahoma State University about a decade ago, members of my church circulated a petition to stop it. I was appalled, and said so.
I got kicked out of that church not too long after that, for similar reasons under unrelated circumstances.
And there you have it. No more explaining needed which party is tolerant and which party is not tolerant.
Conservative doesn't mean the right is tolerant. Classical Liberals are considered conservative in America right now. Do your homework, don't just make claims. Partisanship is a huge problem in America.
If they were smart, they would've at least said "Conservatives don't do it, because there are not enough conservative students on campuses to do it successfully."

"I think that's a red herring argument" - Lost waiter 2018
So, I know this is a very hard question to answer, so I'll give a little hint to everyone to the one time a conservative shut done a liberal speaker:
NONE!
There was never a time when a conservative shut down a liberal speaker!
I have no examples of conservatives disrupting a speech in progress, but conservatives do try (and are occassionally successful) to prevent a speaker from appearing in the first place.
Here's the thing 1 promotes the ammendment the second one wants to ban it
Questions that make other people think for themselves are always good.

Why don't conservative students protest liberal speakers? That's an easy one.

You can almost hear they'r brain is melting. They'r parents must be so proud...
I consider myself to be a liberal person. I’ve been so confused as to how “liberals” have taken on a conservative approach to language. The first time I had this realization was during my discovery of the ratings system and parental advisories for movies and music. It blew my mind that liberals were in agreement with conservatives on this. I can’t believe how far public policing of speech has gotten. I would say this clip has a fair point to make. As long as someone isn’t attacking another person’s personal freedoms, I think they should be allowed to speak. I think the mentality of trying to shut down speakers only empowers people like Donald Trump. Apparently, Hitler had a lot of opposition when he started his campaign, which only fueled his, at that time, underground movement. Unfortunately, I think these behaviours are the result of power professors wield over impressionable and often immature minds.
" I don't profess to say what other people do about what other people do." Thus avoiding answering the question.
Someone should loosen that bow tie on that guy, is cutting off the blood flow to his brain.
What allot of people don't realise is. Living as equals doesn't mean living equally.
They are like children, if you shout at them they will scream and throw a tantrum, you have to be calm, which is why we are so nice.
Because sometimes if they can't argue well shutting them down is their last resort. So people can think and decide whether is it really devisive or not.
There are several instances of this happening to liberal speakers. One is when California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and Assembly Leader Ian Calderon tried to speak at Whittier College. The event was shut down by Trump Supporters. There’s this insane confirmation bias in these videos that’s honestly just funny sometimes. I mean you could definitely say that liberals shut down free speech sometimes but conservatives are honestly just as guilty and if you look at the history of America..they have done this much more frequently. I can recall a time at the University of Texas at Tyler when an event by an Environmental Scientist that I wanted to go to was shut down by conservatives with oil interests. So this belief that conservatives don’t do this is just plain stupid
Bow Tie Guy: "I know some words"
Maybe it's because conservatives believe in the constitution, especially when it comes to the bill of rights.

The cognitive dissonance is strong in these ones...
I’m actually surprised that no one lied. I know I would have if there was $100 on the line
I think conservatives tend to be more open minded and tolerant than liberals. That being said, and to be honest, I think the reason why they don't shut down left speakers is because ther aren't as much conservative students as there are liberals. You know, strenght in numbers. When there are enough people, they tend to all act the same
2:18 *WARNING* The next 22 seconds are disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised.
Their way around this is claiming “we are just simply not tolerating intolerance!”. Unfortunately, when I was in college and had no life experience, I thought this exact same way.

You can clearly see which ones are "liberal" by them trying to rationalize things instead of just admitting that "conservatives" are generally more accepting & civil.
"Yeah, my cousin once spoke in his campus in Phillie, and he was shut down by a conservative. It was pretty big."
2:22 Red Herring?? I dont think that means what you think that means, Poindexter.
Could it also have to do with liberal speakers not tending to speak at conservative campuses?
Liberal has two meanings. (1) open minded, the way academics used to be, and (2) left-leaning socialists. The two meanings are totally different. More conservatives are open minded today than are the "liberals (def 2)." The leftists on college campuses do NOT want free speech if it goes against their agenda. "Someone might feel bad." But conservative students feel bad that they are not given a voice. The liberals of the 60's would be ashamed. Heck, as a conservative I am ashamed at what liberals have become.
