Batman under the Red Hood is a masterpiece it's tied up with mask of the Phantasm as the best Batman movies ever made I feel nothing would never top them
The last line Jason says “this is the best day of my life” it just hits different cause you know what’s coming. I feel Jason is different from every other robin so far, cause unlike Tim or Dick and maybe even Damien they are had some sort of family unit etc Jason didn’t, his parents didn’t care much for him didn’t look after him at all he was a child who never experienced the love from his parents. So Bruce literally in Jason eyes bruce was in every sense of the word his “real” father, the only father he ever knew the only person who cared for him and looked after him. So when he died and found out that his “father” didn’t avenge him, it stung it hurt him more than anything, the person he trusted, looked up to and adored above anything else. Did nothing, just like his parents and everyone else in his life. (New 52 / Rebirth) I love the character of Jason Todd he is my favourite, the most realistic / gritty character who’s finally get the attention he deserves and then titans fucks it,
SAME! Like I can go on & on about Jason! But TLDR, the thing that sings the most about Jason's story is that he didn't *need* to be Robin. Bruce took Jason in b/c he thought Jason would have grown up to be a super criminal and he thought that Jason needed an outlet, like Dick did (plus Bruce wanted a partner). But as Alfred said, Jason needs a family, not a cape. Out of all the Robins, Jason was the only one "chosen" by Batman to be so. That's a lot of pressure, which led to Jason believing he was only Bruce's son b/c he was Robin. Had Bruce just taken Jason in only as a son, Jason would have been fine. Or at least let Jason work through his abandonment/anger issues before throwing him into crime-fighting as Alfred said, then Jason might not have died at all.
@@1normallyimpulsive omg yes totally agree, I feel like Bruce thought Jason was going to be like Dick, but Jason is different. Jason already had quite a twisted view of the world having grown up on the streets unlike Dick who before there murder had a quite a good upbringing (ignoring the court of owls shit) . The biggest failure of Batman was thinking that dick and Jason’s trauma where the same and so the same method would work. No! Dick needed a guardian a mentor, a friend, Jason needed a father, he needed family to which like you said he never got so he pushed himself further into becoming robin and lost himself. He’s a very tragic character. I believe out of all the Robins Jason adored / loved bruce the most which is why his betrayal was that much worst and why he can never quite forgive him. Because in Jason eyes he was the only one, all his good memories stem from the moment he met him, there literally nothing before him, (literally proven his best memory was when he was sick and Bruce took the time off being Batman and took care of him) his timeline would go before Batman and after that how much he meant to Jason.
@@denisewhite6751 AND Jason clearly suffered from an inferiority complex when he first started. This is later explored with Tim, but I have always held the belief that Tim & Jason basically goes through the same struggles, only differences is that Jason never wanted to or had a way to voice his pains. Which further proved to Bruce that he was helping, even tho he really wasn’t. Jason held a lot of stuff in & his death was the thing that brought it out. At the end of UTRH, Jason basically asked Bruce to prove his love, prove that all the good times were not because he wanted something from Jason but rather because he loved Jason. Bruce not being good with emotions & conflict resolution responded poorly by turning his back to Jason (and throwing a Batarang into Jason’s neck in the comics). Pushing Jason to snap, and venting his anger onto Tim & Dick: the Robin’s he never was & could never be. BUT HE STILL LOVES BRUCE, as seen in Battle of The Cowl when Dick showed an “if you’re seeing this, then I’m dead” video from Bruce. When Bruce admits to that he didn’t help Jason and that he take responsibility for Jason’s mental state, offering to help Jason in anyway that he needs. JASON HAS A WHOLE MENTAL/EMOTIONAL BREAKDOWN! His heart is telling him this is true & Bruce really does love despite everything, but his mind is telling him that Bruce can’t be trusted. Uuuugggghh, you got me ranting, Jason is so complex! Love it!
@@1normallyimpulsive @Denise White I just wanted to thank both of you for the opportunity to read this insightful conversation - as someone just getting into Batman stuff (primarily for and because of Jason!), this was a very welcome, informative read.
This movie is indeed AMAZING. Wish you would have spoken about their crime debate as well. Jason tells Bruce that crime can't be STOPPED it has to be CONTROLLED. I was a kid when I first saw this movie but it legit changed my view on life. Also, Bruce Greenwood killed it but he's no Kevin Conroy.
I think Bruce is as good as Kevin, he's different for sure, but still great. I love him as Batman in Young Justice especially, I think that's where my strong reverence for his performance comes from. He's less scarily intense and driven in his attitude than Kevin, authoritative like Kevin, but warmer in attitude (err... through coming off less stern), making him a good mentor for the superhero kids.
The debate of which method is better (Bruce's way or Jason's way) is such an interesting one to me. On one hand, the "no killing rule" rule means giving criminals a second chance, an opportunity for them to turn their life around, which is great; on the other hand, you have the flaws of said rule (which Jason literally embodies), how that rule can be so detrimental to innocent civilians. It's such a great plot device, and it's why I wish DC writers would just utilize it more in their comics (aside from because of me wanting more Red Hood content since I'm such a fanboy lol).
@@rafi5486 Yeah Bro, legit. It's a debatthat goes beyond the pages of a comic or the frames of a movie. I'm more of a glass half full kind of guy, so I'm more inclined towards Bruce's Pholosophy and generally believe everyone deserves a second chance.
@@tornadochaser2457 kevins batman interacted better with the justice league. him and tim daly worked so damn good together. and kevins dry humor work well
The majority of the problems with the DC animated movies is WB. They refuse to increase the budget. They have a very tight release schedule for these movies. They forced the movies to build a continuity around New 52, which was pointless since even the comics abandoned New 52 after only a few years. A big reason why these earlier movies are better is because the writers were allowed to do what they want. Yes, they made mistakes and did some bad stuff but they were experimenting and trying new things. There was excitement over the movies at the beginning. But over time, the 3 movies per year schedule has gotten to be too much. It used to be that the writers were putting out things they had been wishing to make for years. But after so many movies, it's become a grind, instead of making things they were excited for, they're just churning movies out on a schedule.
I always hated new 52 with a PASSION and it took rebirth to undo everything and explains that doctor Manhattan created the new 52 (which I also didn't like at all) and now its time for dc to abandon the new 52.
@@joshsfilmjournal8785 Yeah, the reason why the older movies were so good was b/c they were based on good comics & people who loved the characters, & respected the previous writers' creativity, worked on those movies. While WB wanted to slow down the production of 3 movies a year, DC Comics was the one who wanted to push the New 52 so bad because they wanted to use them to boost sales for the comics. But the comics sucked and it showed, several times in the middle of the New 52 movies, we would get a random movie that was based on something from the older comics (The Long Holloween) or completely original (Batman Ninja) and they did extremely better.
At least the animated department finally seems be getting more creative freedom now. They announced a Christman themed Batman movie a few days ago, and it has a surreal, colourful artstyle that feels like it hasn't seen in a long damn time, it's a true breath of fresh air
@@1normallyimpulsive It's not that all of the N52 stories are bad either, it's just that they were fumbled so badly when they adapted them. Flashpoint Paradox was great, War was fun, then they fucked up Throne of Atlantis and it pissed me off so much I actually stopped following the DCAMU really early on
@@randot6675 True. Now that some time has pasted, I’m not as bitter about it, LOL, but I do still feel that in an attempt to please everyone DC lost sight of what made it so good. And the fact that they are rebooting the animated universe to more Pre-52/original content is telling. Post-52 misses the mark too much to warrant continuing. Until then, its too painful to continue watching/reading.
This movie was so good that I unironically think Jensen ackles is the voice of red hood despite only voicing him once. Man just gives Jason the weight and grit the character deserves
i'm glad you didn't go down the victim blaming path most people take when talking about jason, saying that he was always too violent or angry and that he got himself killed because of that. your statement of "jason, a boy that trusted him and ultimately it got him killed," is a lot more true and a lot more fair to jason, the victim and child. people tend to focus on the flashbacks with him as a teenager as evidence that 'the red hood' was the path he was always meant to go down, but i appreciate how you talked about him as robin and how that wasn't the case. more than a villain, jason is a tragedy and bruce and jason's relationship is a tragedy. both of them are sympathetic and it hurts that it ends this way.
And if you really look at their relationship, Jason was not some "violent/angry kid", Jason was actually really smart & really kind (most of the attributes the fandom gives to Dick & Tim). Jason is just traumatized in ways that non of the other characters had dealt with before. Jason had trust issues from years of living on the street and being basically abandoned by his parents at the age of 9, but the one time he trusted someone, the one time he had faith in someone, it ended up costing him his life. AND to come back just to see that person who you still believe in your heart, the one you trusted, really tried to save you has "replaced" & didn't seek "justice" for you. I would be pretty angry too.
That scene about why Batman doesn’t kill is one of my favorite superhero moments ever, because for ONCE they finally tell the fans to shut up and understand that killing someone *isn’t just about what that person deserves.* it’s also about what killing someone does to the newly minted killer.because once you justify killing someone once, once you cross that hard line, everything changes.
@@jxlennn I’m not really talking about just Snyder. There are constantly debates about the “no kill rule” a lot of heroes have in the fandoms even before Snyder took on the DC canon, and it generally completely disregards any discussion of the cycle of violence, the slippery slope of justification or the mental toll killing a person takes on the killer.
@@adammyers7383 I 100% agree, there is something about not stooping to their level & keeping yourself pure when the world isn't that is just inherently uplifting when you really think about it-where there is a will, there is a way. But this is also why Jason/Red Hood is such an amazing character! In the comics to my knowledge, he only killed criminals that are murders/r%pist/abusers/drug dealers. The types of crimes that put innocent lives in danger. I know he went off the deep end tho in Pre-New 52 & Dick put him in Arkham Asylum, but even then Jason was racking bodies. I will say this; in the recent comics, The Red Hood & The Outlaws, they did a good job in showing that Jason can't just murder people willy-nilly. It has to be for a legit reason, they would be "a danger to society" (and the police can't stop them) if they go free to justify killing the person.
@@adammyers7383 , it’s not the concept of the No kill rule I have a problem with, but how it’s used in certain Batman series because for example Luffy doesn’t kill because of any moral reasons, but because he loves fucking with the enemies dreams, and if he’s still able to achieve that goal with them being completely dead he’s fine with with that, or how in Journey to the West Son Goku is forced to not kill because being forced to adapt to Buddhist Traditions being forced up on him by Buddhist Monks makes the Journey of Son Goku and his companions a compelling story unlike in the Batman comics where a character like Jason Todd, (the Red Hood), seems objectively the best Batman character of all time, and I wished that there were more stories focusing on him than series being mainly focused on Batman himself.
I really hope they don't botch it. The writers say they are green-lighted for 3-4 more seasons after season 4. TBH I think YJ could have successfully ended in season 2 had they not introduced the REACH, Season 3 was wasted, & anything beyond season 4 is just beating a dead horse. Young Justice is a show that should operate like Gravity Falls; tell your story and end on a high note, die a hero & don't live to become the "villain".
Flashpoint Paradox will always be my favourite just from the cast alone, but goddamn most of those other Animated movies absolutely smack. JL Doom, TDKR, Assault on Arkham and of course Under the Red Hood. The only thing I think that falls down for me is Neil Patrick Harris' exposition as Nightwing, the PG cursing of Jason and an odd choice of John DiMaggio as Joker. The thing that would have raised it the most for me would have been Conroy & Hamill, it would have felt a lot more sympathetic to Jason as we all have that existing link to Hamill's Joker. It would have sold the torment Bruce feels about leaving the supervillains alive a little more as we've watched and heard him go through it all for the better part of 2 decades at that point.
I personally liked the different voice actors for two reasons plain and simple. 1) as a kid, after hearing the OG Animated Series voice cast as characters for so long, this movie seemingly made me look at the characters with a more gritty, lived in approach if you will (not that I don't like the Animated Series cast, you just can't replicate that). And 2) it was a (to me) successful change in pace. As I just said, I nothing can ever replace the Animated Series cast... But that being said, we need to accept the closest thing we can get
Jensen Ackles as Red Hood was the perfect casting choice for this film. As a fan of Supernatural, Jensen was so damn good as Dean Winchester. Good enough that when Dean cried, I cried with him
The thing I love most about Jason as the redhood directly is how it directly parallels batman's origin... like bruce he had to train for years, travel the world and learn to match up against the batman. For that to happen something had to die instead just like bruce the night in that alley. One powerful bit is the name choice "red hood" where just like bruce adopts the bat that he once feared a symbol of his independence. Redhood adopts joker's former past as a symbol of his idenpendene of joker's torture.
Fr - I low-key wish more Batman movies would lean heavier into the comics with characters like Croc and Ivy - instead of the always Trynna be grounded stuff.
I love how Jason forgave Bruce for failing to save him. It makes it a lot easier for the audience to look at his point of view instead of just seeing him as some crazy brat who’s completely unaware of important details just for the sake of being right. He might do that a little due to what he went through and the raw emotion from it all but he understands what happened that night. He’s mad at Batman’s code and thinks it’s ineffective pointless optimistic bullshit😄. He knows Bruce did everything in his power to get there in time and save him. He knows Bruce loved him and didn’t abandon him even if Bruce feels like he did. Jason knows he put himself in that situation. He knows that Bruce told him to wait to investigate the warehouse so they could take on Joker together. He knows he disregarded that order and ended up springing Joker’s trap which resulted in his death. Bruce won’t forgive himself because he recruited Jason and he was his responsibility to protect. Bruce blames himself for things that he shouldn’t. Because his parents would die every time if it meant protecting young Bruce. Jason loved being part of a family and having Bruce take him off the street. He loved being loved and having that protective father figure. Despite the ups and downs Jason probably didn’t regret Bruce recruiting him and he doesn’t blame him for his death. Jason blames him for how he reacted. He knows the “no kill” rule isn’t effective and leads to more innocents suffering. He’s not wrong. Bruce’s rule is practical in that it prevents him from just being another criminal who takes life as he deems fit like Jason. But it’s also a liiiittle selfish in that he doesn’t want to become that. He doesn’t want to lose himself and become the evil he fights. But mostly it’s because he knows the vigilante like red hood is likely not going to lead to the positive outcome that Jason thinks. He thinks it’s a simple solution but it’s not. He thinks Bruce is weak for not taking revenge but he’s stronger. But that’s a lot more interesting than Jason just ignoring every moment he had with Bruce prior to his death to just force himself to believe Batman never cared about him. I accepted no problem in the Arkham Knight game because he never died and instead spent years in Arkham being tortured and brainwashed by Joker to believe that. I also loved how the game showed that he held out hope no matter how pathetic it seemed and only finally gave in when Joker showed him Batman moved on and replaced him with time after giving up on finding him. Even though he thought he was dead. But this is more interesting to me.
In Arkham he thought batman just left him, That’s why i don’t get why ppl say arkham Hood is the best if we not talking about combat…..He was Angry like todd but maybe a little too angry 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Cause now he just feels like fuck everybody
The thing about the “No killing” tule of Batman is heavily rooted on his trauma in Crime Alley, but not because he’s afraid of becoming another Joe Chill if he takes a life, but because he refuses to partake on the same violence that took his parents away. He inadvertently took the infamous “It only takes one bad day” philosophy of Joker and spit it, he used the tragedy and the loss to fuel The Batman, to make something positive from the darkness, to become the guardian angel that could’ve protected his parents from Joe Chill. Bruce values human life much more than anybody else, and even if they’re not deserving he still makes the difficult decision to be compassionate, and try to help out those villains that deserve to be helped. It’s less about being mentally unstable or unable to control himself, which could not be any farther from the truth given Batman character, but more about upholding the ideals that he learned after being a victim of said violence, it would go against the very existence of Batman as a symbol and a hero.
Also regarding Arkham Knight, Batman didn’t actually replaced Jason, Tim forced himself into being Batman’s side kick and he helped out trying to find Jason. But the news of Jason’s death apparently was something that utterly broke Bruce, he deeply mourned him to the point he sometimes called Tim Jason out of pure grief. Bruce ALWAYS loved Jason in that series and felt ever responsible guilty for his “death”.
Totally agree, they dont make em like they used to sadly. Neil P. Harris as Nightwings is also great and this was the first time I knew Jason Issac (Lucious Malfoy) as a voice actor and he's also great as Ras. That last flashback always gives me the chills. Such a bittersweet ending. Also for any future videos it would be interesting to kNow what you think about the Redhood storyline in TITANS. I couldn't look away from that dumpster fire...
1. LOVE that people are still talking about this gem of a movie, and DC movies in general post Flashpoint 2. I like the movies in the DC animated movie universe. Not as much as the post Flashpoint movies, but they had some good moments 3. I remember watching this movie as a kid too! Only problem is I was horrified by the Jason Todd torture scene, and didn't actually finish the movie until years later.
This movie, Mask of the Phantasm and TDK Returns are my most revered and titular pieces of animation for Batman! This video just reaffirmed my stance on this movie as being the golden standard for DC animation post DCAU. I would really love to see a video on your thoughts on the new ongoing season of Young Justice Phantoms as well! Banger video nonetheless.
This is my favorite cinematic version of Jason Todd. Forget Titans, forget Death of the Family, forget Arkham Knight, this is the definitive Red Hood. Complex, but retaining maturity, and totally ready to take your feelings and rip them to shreds. I love this movie more than any other Batman movie, and it was only 75 minutes long.
This is legitimately my favorite movie ever made just for how special it always felt to me, it introduced me to how amazing Batman, Joker, Red Hood stories can be. I had liked Batman movies before of course but this was always my favorite when I was a kid (I probably shouldn’t have watched this movie that young through lol) but man I’m glad I did. Thank you for making a video showing how amazing this film is for just the possibility someone will pick it up for the first time and check it out
Been saying it for years, this is an amazing movie. I'd love to see this being translated into a live action movie, going a little deeper in fleshing out the characters, and respecting the original material. At this point in time, nobody needs an introduction to Batman, so they can go straight up showing people amazing stories and it would easily be one of the top DCEU movies.
I've gone to this movie whenever I feel in a dark place. There's something cathartic about the raw pain. Easily one of the best & most-rewatchable Batman film
My first intro to the animated Batman and justice league franchise was Batman/Superman public enemies. I love that movie with my heart, it’s such a great dynamic between the two.
Thank you for talking about this movie, it’s utter perfection. This movie also gave me my second favorite Batman voice of all time behind Kevin Conroy, and a definitive voice for Red Hood in my mind. Bruce Greenwood and Jensen Ackles nailed it!
You're an amazing commentator, my guy. In my opinion, the best Batman stories truly push and test his limits as to what he will allow and what he can do about situations like this. This movie and Return of the Joker are some of the few that really got under my skin and showed me how demonic and psychopathic the Joker can be. However...if a Batman story has you thinking "Okay, Batman NEEDS to take him out at this point," the writers have got you right where they want you. And that goes for any of his villains, thought the Joker's the most prominent example. You nailed talking about that bit perfectly. Props to you!
"Why? I'm not talking about killing Scarecrow, or Penguin, or Dent! I'm talking about him. JUST HIM! And I'm doing it because... because he took me away from you."
I know I already commented but man I just wanna say that scene between Batman, Jason, and the Joker near the end is probably my favorite scene in any Batman movie.
I love Batman under the red hood so much and When me and my sister watch it we both agreed it was one of the best or the best Batman film because it just perfectly shows why Batman doesn’t kill and that line when Jason said he was doing it because joker took him away from Bruce honestly made me tear up.
Batman under the Red Hood along with mask of the Phantasm it's tied up as my all-time favorite Batman movies nothing will never top these two especially under the Red Hood I love how mature the story is I love how quickly it is and I'm surprised it got a PG-13 rating this movie should have been Rated R because it feels like rated R movie I love everything the animation the casting everything this is a masterpiece I'm happy I got this on DVD is he the best Batman movie ever made even better than the live action films
I love the DCAMU films, they build up Damien from a spoiled brat to an empathetic person, and Batman was also done well. Green Lantern was barely in it which is criticism, but I think they felt rushed to end the series of movies so no GL film. Shazam was barely in it but from what we saw of him it was great. Wonder Woman's solo film was meh but her whole arc with superman was good. I also loved how they explored Riddler more than the Joker, although Penguin and Two-Face were left in the dust with barely anything. Thawne was also a great character (although I think the general consensus is yes with that) Cyborg was also barely in it and they should've made 1 solo film for all of those first heroes in JL War but the Batman movies were amazing so I cant get THAT mad. Also both Superman films were done amazing. Raven and Trigon were also good I never knew I needed Trigon VS Darkseid so bad, and Raven had a nice little arc which made her into a MC Oh yeah and Constantine was the best god damn character in that film series.
*THIS IS CINEMA!* So glad there is another video paying tribute to one of the best SUPERHERO films ever (Yes, SUPERHERO films). It's my third favorite DC film ever. *MASTERPIECE!* 😍
Yeah, this is the best. I saw it at SD Comic Con, and everytime I think of that last line by Robin - I get chills and tears. Batman's greatest failure, and yet still a victory, as he refused to be pushed to do what he vowed to never do - to never become. Man, this movie...
My cousin got me this movie 2 Christmas’s ago and I fell in love with how dark it was, I knew nothing about Red Hood and it was the first time I saw Black Mask before the Harley Quinn movie, but Jensen killed it as always
This movie explained Batmans no kill rule better than any other piece of media. Batman doesn't kill because he knows deep down that he is a flawed man who would be easily corrupted beyond repair if he were to take a life. He knows he would most likely enjoy it and go down the path of destruction. In a way, he is admitting that he isn't that far off from being like any of his rogues gallery. It's a purposeful character flaw that makes him more interesting as a character.
@@Rolf97 that's awesome. Do you still love it as much as you when you first watched it? What's your top 5 favorite batman movies of all time. This movie is not the first batman I saw for me personally.
@@Rolf97 what's your top 5 favorite batman movies of all time. I'm actually kinda curious. How old were you when you first saw under the red hood and what year were you born?
Such an amazing film I remember watching the confrontation between Batman and Jason Todd at the end and just my jaw dropped to the ground. Apparently all that dialogue was almost written word-for-word by Judd Winnick same writer behind the original storyline as well.
I love the Joker, too, a lot, but I have to admit, he does get used too much, I'd like to see more villains take the spotlight. C'mon, DC! Give us more Ventriloquist or Ratcatcher! But to get on topic, I LOVE this movie! Great cast, great animation, great adaptation! I hope DC produces more great animated movies like this, at least they did Long Halloween right.
What could have enhanced the movie in my opinion would be if they closely adapted the Death in the Family storyline with Jason finding his birth mother, and if Tim Drake was in it. He could have tried emotionally helping Batman, but he’s afraid that Tim will end up dead.
This movie will forever hold a place in my heart and sit at the top of my favorites for comic hero movies. I've rewatched Under the Red Hood more times than I can count, and it never gets old to me. I still believe that Bruce did make a choice at the end, though. I personally believe that he chose Jason, even if he thought Jason wouldn't shoot the Joker when he dropped the gun.
I would rank under the red hood on top. Mask of the phantasm was my favourite untill i didn't see under the red hood. Under the red hood is just too perfect to ever topped by any other batman movie.
I watch this movie maybe once a month. Titans Season 3 took a lot of stuff directly from this film, as a massive fan of Jason Todd, this movie is perfect.
For me, the ending of the movie remind me a lot of The Godfather Part II. That final flashback of a lost love one, the ultimate gut punch that makes you think about your decisions.
Before I saw this movie I was not really interested in DC comics. More of a marvel fan. But I ended up watching this a few years back and Jason Todd’s character had me hooked. I ended up binging every comic I could find that had any mention of him and Red Hood and then I started to read other DC comics. Red Hood is my absolute favourite DC character in general though. His philosophy on crime fighting and his interactions with the rest of the bat family are what keeps me coming back.
I remember the first time watching this movie with my dad and my uncles, and we all went crazy when Bruce jumped through the car as it was thrown at him
Love your analysis! But i believe the last moment where Jasons face gets grim before he dies is supposed to make us believe what you said AT FIRST. But way in the end he tells Batman that he hates him because he didnt take out the Joker after his death. THAT, THAT is his face at that moment he dies. It's the moment he 100% BELIEVES Batman WILL kill the Joker. He is SURE off it. If he thinks "Thats it" , he thinks that not just off himself, at that moment, but off the whole thing. "Him, Batman, Joker .... Thats it"
Besides Mask of the Phantasm, this is not only my favorite animated Batman film, but favorite Batman film period! Saw it on UA-cam back when people could upload it parts and it floored me and kept me pondering the mystery of who the Red Hood was. It taught me that movies can be tragic and gothic, but still enjoyable to follow the characters and story thanks to writing and splendid cast! The fact that DC put this much effort into a direct to video film made me want to check out more! There will be nothing else like it.
My biggest problem with batman v superman, is how it forgets that tdkr is actually heavily influenced by robin's death. And that's nothing more than a cameo in the movie, when robins death could've been a perfect intro to show why batman is so raw and angry. And also set up a batman solo movie for a red hood adaptation which would've been amazing.

(New 52 / Rebirth)
I love the character of Jason Todd he is my favourite, the most realistic / gritty character who’s finally get the attention he deserves and then titans fucks it,
Love it!
Titans fucks everything up. I don’t know how that show is still on.
@@1normallyimpulsive @Denise White I just wanted to thank both of you for the opportunity to read this insightful conversation - as someone just getting into Batman stuff (primarily for and because of Jason!), this was a very welcome, informative read.
This film’s so legendary it never gets old.
Not gonna lie, the movie made me tear up a few times.
@@tornadochaser2457 Yeah, massive respect to both. But when I read comics, I hear Conroy's Batman, to me, he IS THE BATMAN.
Facts! Jason was never a bad kid.
That scene about why Batman doesn’t kill is one of my favorite superhero moments ever, because for ONCE they finally tell the fans to shut up and understand that killing someone *isn’t just about what that person deserves.* it’s also about what killing someone does to the newly minted killer.because once you justify killing someone once, once you cross that hard line, everything changes.
snyder stans still gonna go the extra mile to defend him though.
@@adammyers7383 bullshit
Jason Todd is definitely the most underutilized Robin.
Young Justice has had him for three years now snd still hasn’t done anything with him.
That is another good one
Good enough that when Dean cried, I cried with him
John Dimmagio's joker was perfect too.
Jason and joker in this movie were just too perfect.
That Black mask was hysterically funny. That scene with the RPG hitting his building by Red Hood
The "I want him dead" scene always gets me!!
I know a million people have said this already, but Mask of the Phantasm is also a pretty perfect Batman film.
Spittin
I personally think it’s the best
Fr - I low-key wish more Batman movies would lean heavier into the comics with characters like Croc and Ivy - instead of the always Trynna be grounded stuff.
Mask of the Phantasm is literally the best theatrically released Batman film
Yes, I prefer I over Nolan. Sue me.
Idk why but I've watched it multiple times and I never really liked it
That scene with Jason, Bruce, and Joker is so emotional
Also thank god it’s December a good video to bust to
Bro?
@@Real_gandalf Don't ask questions, the past month has been... difficult😩
Watch long Halloween 1&2
I knew Titans was going to be bad when they had DICK GRAYSON say "fck Batman". I feel bad for all the actors.
1. LOVE that people are still talking about this gem of a movie, and DC movies in general post Flashpoint
2. I like the movies in the DC animated movie universe. Not as much as the post Flashpoint movies, but they had some good moments
Return of the joker I would also throw in there
Batman: Under the Red Hood, is honestly IMO the best DC animated movie. Memories bro....
“I’m doing it because……..because he took me away from you.”
That has to be the most heartbreaking line in any comic book movie.
Thank you for making a video showing how amazing this film is for just the possibility someone will pick it up for the first time and check it out
I saw this young too. The moment I realized this was a "mature" film was when Jason came out of the pit crazy, I was so shocked!
Props to you!
...that's sweet, that Mauricio's your guy!

Bruce Greenwood is like truly a badass voice for Batman with like a realistic tone of voice.
I saw this when I was eight and loved it as well
It was dark and gritty but also full of characters with great personality and depth
Raven and Trigon were also good I never knew I needed Trigon VS Darkseid so bad, and Raven had a nice little arc which made her into a MC
Oh yeah and Constantine was the best god damn character in that film series.
Under the Red Hood is so amazing and I’ll always appreciate anyone else willing to speak about it

Under the red hood is just too perfect to ever topped by any other batman movie.
@@IshanWayne You have the right to your opinion. I fell the Mask is the superior film and narrative.
I watch this movie maybe once a month. Titans Season 3 took a lot of stuff directly from this film, as a massive fan of Jason Todd, this movie is perfect.
Suscribed. Perfectly explained why this.... THIS IS A MASTERPIECE.
One of the best batman movies ever made!
This video was so good. Commentary and the background music suites the content so well 🤙
Nice to see this video in the same week
For me, the ending of the movie remind me a lot of The Godfather Part II. That final flashback of a lost love one, the ultimate gut punch that makes you think about your decisions.
Keep UP the good work Brown table
The transition at 8:03 is great man
Before I saw this movie I was not really interested in DC comics.
I always enjoyed this movie, the voice cast is awesome and it takes inspiration straight from the comics.
thanks for covering this movie
Legit one of my favorite movies of all time thank you for doing this 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Bruce Greenwood is easily my 2nd favorite Batman after Conroy.
Suits him and Bruce Wayne incredibly well to me.
I definitely feel DiMaggio’s Joker is underrated and under appreciated. It doesn’t get near enough praise.
Absolutely right bro.. he was as good as jensen ackel's jason.
He is the best joker i have ever seen alongwith ledger's joker.
The movie does everything with care. It even has some of the best action and combat from Batman media. I look up all the fights regularly
I remember the first time watching this movie with my dad and my uncles, and we all went crazy when Bruce jumped through the car as it was thrown at him
The chase scene showcasing all their styles is amazing.
This was and always will be my favorite movie
Love your analysis!
But i believe the last moment where Jasons face gets grim before he dies is supposed to make us believe what you said AT FIRST.
But way in the end he tells Batman that he hates him because he didnt take out the Joker after his death.
THAT, THAT is his face at that moment he dies. It's the moment he 100% BELIEVES Batman WILL kill the Joker. He is SURE off it.
If he thinks "Thats it" , he thinks that not just off himself, at that moment, but off the whole thing. "Him, Batman, Joker .... Thats it"
This movie has my personal favorite Joker aside from Mark Hamill. John DiMaggio's Joker is just so perfect in my eyes
The red hood is my favorite dc movie this is why I love dc
My biggest problem with batman v superman, is how it forgets that tdkr is actually heavily influenced by robin's death. And that's nothing more than a cameo in the movie, when robins death could've been a perfect intro to show why batman is so raw and angry. And also set up a batman solo movie for a red hood adaptation which would've been amazing.
I love Batman under the red hood it’s really awesome and tons of fun
Woah INTERSTELLAR RANGER COMMENCE is coming on my birthday
My favourite batman animated movie forever. I love it so much everything is amazing.
Hell Yess!! This Movie is so underrated, I fooking love this movie
