EO fan reporting in from the future to clarify those menu options: 8:50 There are 3 Battle speeds settings - Animation is the speed the battles play at if you just set the controller down. "A Button Skip" is how much faster the animations play if you - wait for it - hold the A button down. Auto Battle is how fast animations play if/when you enable auto-battle. Auto-battle confirmation means that, when you hit the auto-battle button (default is Left Bumper), the game will ask "are you SURE you want to turn on Auto-battle?" if you set this to "Yes". This keeps you from accidentally starting up the auto-battle with a stray bump of L1, which can lead to very bad things happening in, say a Boss or FOE fight. Command confirmation means that, after the 5th and final party member's action has been selected, the game will ask "are you SURE you want to start the next combat round?" if you set this to "Yes." This is useful because it's really easy to input the wrong command for your 5th Party Member (who is almost always your Healer) and then Bad Things go down because you accidentally told your Medic to Run or Defend instead of tossing out that clutch heal. 9:30 For the auto-mapping options: "Off" is for true masochists. The game won't even "paint" the floors you've walked on. You have to paint every floor, draw every wall, drop every icon. "On" is the default. The game will auto-paint the floor for you as you walk along, but it's still up to you to fill in the walls and drop icons. "Full" will paint the floors AND draw the walls, but you still have to drop icons (for stuff like Doors or Gathering spots or Shortcuts). It does NOT give you a map as soon as you enter a new floor. It does NOT auto-discover Events or Shortcuts for you. Also, for EO veterans, you are seeing that correctly: the later games' auto-run option is now available in all three games! "Normal" means you can walk faster by holding "B", "Fast" means you'll go faster by default, but if you want to you can hold "B" to walk instead. Even if the "big map" is minimized while exploring, there is always a mini-map shown in the upper right corner. This mini-map also appears on the battle screen, so you can see if FOEs are creeping up on you during a random battle (seen at 13:00). 13:30 There was NOT an option to check the enemies' stats in-battle. You could only do it from the Government building (Radha Hall, Duke's Palace, Via Senatus), which meant you had to write it all down or have a Wiki handy. Being able to see this in-battle started in the 3DS era and is being back-ported to the original trilogy for this remaster. They also made the Skill Trees for the classes a visual skill tree rather than a vertical text dump, making it SO MUCH EASIER to see all the prerequisites for each Class' advanced skills. The game are still horrendously overpriced - the collection giving you all three for $27 each the only semi-reasonable-but-not-really option here, paying $40 for a 10-year-old DS game with some QOL features and blown-up artwork is ludicrous. However, I'm an idiot and EO is one of my favorite series of ALL. TIME. so you better believe I pre-ordered the $80 "bundle" on Steam the second I found out about it. I'm willing to support Atlus by overpaying for this collection, and by extension saying "please give me EO 3 Untold, EO 6, and/or EO 4&5 HD on Steam, I will pay through the nose for them", but I know that's *not* going to be true for a lot of people. You have to REALLY like Dungeon Crawlers specifically for this to be worthwhile.

10:41 so basically what it's saying is that 'on' will just fill in the floor tiles you step on. Full will also fill in the walls when you walk next to them. Untold did the same thing.
I will buy this when it's on sale; but considering this is a Japanese game that may be a while. I've noticed on Steam that certain publishers hate reducing their games. Atelier Ryza 1 has been out for years and they have never reduced the price to anything reasonable for how old it is.
Personally I don't understand what they are doing with this font in the English version. - Context: For some really strange reason the English and Japanese versions of the game have different fonts. Even for UI elements that were already in English. (Attack, Skill, Item exc). The Japanese version the text looks a lot more like the 3DS games. A lot of us who have been paying attention for a while have been wondering if the previous trailers were just using some placeholder font, but no... Its really weird.

Honestly I don't remember either but I think maybe it was something that was added into later games and since this is a remake with less limitations due to better hardware they decided to add some of the quality of life things that got added in later games into these remakes, I know a lot of remade games do that where they keep the game mostly faithful to the original but add in the QoL updates that happened over the series because they know not having those QoL changes drives away anyone who doesn't have nostalgia for the old games because they are use to having those QoL features from the games they had played.

i've been playing this every night in bed since release. etrian odyssey were my go-to games between classes in college so this has been a fun return for me. a physical release would have made the $80 feel like more of a value.
EO1 did let the tiles colour automatically. Automap full was introduced in... EO4? And by full, they mean tiles + walls. Very Fast basically turns animations off :P Auto-Battle was in EO2 and onward. They just use normal attacks so it's not the best. In-battle codex entry with this level of detail was introduced with EO2U, and then stayed in EO5/Nexus. This is indeed new addition for EO1~EO3 HD Remaster in that sense.
Iirc eo 1-3 had the tiles you walked on be colored in but not the walls. So you could get the floor layout that way if you don't mind a few extra encounters

I've only played starting 2, but i'm planning on buying the full thing physical edition especially since the store I buy from if I buy day 1 they give me the pre order bonus as well which is a plus because preordering from them don't really matter, they don't make you pay money they just go "Alright" Come collect it anytime but we may still sell it to someone else

Have you played dungeon travelers 2. It is like this game but very addicting and very hard boss battles. Some almost impossible. People are going nuts now that 2-2 is being brought over to the west but the company bringing it over is shady.
the auto battling comfimation is a yes or no question that comes up when you hit auto battle. Basically a fail safe if you hold your ds like a goon and accidentaly auto battle a turn to get decimated.
I preordered a Physical copy through PlayAsia because it seems to be the only way to get an playable english physical cart. That was 70 dollars at the time. Never played them before, so I'm all in.
I did so as well, and have all the physical games for ds and 3ds. Have played the old ones on DS the last few years. Will never stop playing 3DS just because it's "dead", but I wanted all of them again for the Switch. Playasia preorder. Do play on hardest as the gentleman states, and form a party that you enjoy and makes sense to you (not a gamefaqs "power party", following blindly "Let's Play Etrian Odyssey" recommendations, etc.-he is spot on above in this regard. Also "trap skills" have their use, unless you mess up skill selection in the party as a whole. No need to select all combat skills to conquer the game, and some of the "bad" combat skills are fun. They are difficult, but really not impossible.
I pre ordered the physical version through play asia a while back. I cannot wait for this to come out! First person dungeon crawlers have become one of my favorite genres. I hope the games sell well because they really need to make more games like this.
I agree. Atlus is on a roll with their range and I am hoping it doesnt just end like some other companies. Who knows? parts 4-6 MIGHT get a HD remake as well. You never know

I bought them all when they originally released they're all good games and pretty pricey now so ya the collection is worth it if you want to play them.
Awesome news, sold my (3)DS so being able to replay these (and hopefully DS Shin Megami Tensei titles in the future) is gonna be a treat. Did you ever play Wizardry 8 Pete? I seem to recall you showcasing the DVD or big box case for it in one of your old videls, that one has one of the most satisying party building systems in any dungeon crawler or RPG ever imo, so many classes and the custom voices add so much personality. And the combat system is so satisfying. I've played thru that game like 4 times, once on Iron Man mode
Yeah I would love to see more SMT games remastered and released on modern hardware, maybe with some of the QoL changes added over the series life put into the older games, like sure Persona series is great, STM 3 is good, and Devil Survivor is as well, so is Soul Hackers 2, but there are a shit ton of other great games in the SMT universe both of the main line and of all the spin off sub series. While not the greatest sub series, the one I hope they touch into next of remaking is the Devil Survivor sub series since it is the most different that doesn't have that modern of a remake yet unlike Persona, Dev il Summoner, and main line ( I mean yeah Devil Children/Demikids hasn't seen a western release since the Gameboy advance but there are plenty of other games similar to that style where as Survivor is more unique)
I really want to pick this up because I have every Japanese version of the series, both DS and 3DS versions, and even Japanese art books and guide for 4, 5 and X. But unfortunately I’m unemployed now and I don’t think I can in good conscience get this on release. I hope it doesn’t sell out fast and get really expensive 😢
I don't think they are actually making physical releases anyway. I tried multiple times to go into the store and get a preorder for physical release and they said it didn't exist. So you should be good getting digital whenever money allows 😊. Good luck with the job hunt

I’m upset about the price. It’s priced higher in America than Asian territories. However my lame ass will still be getting this. This game is the only reason I own or have owned Nintendo consoles for the last decade. Surprise it’s not Zelda! Anyone is crazy for playing this on the highest difficulty though lmao ehhhh dungeon mapping was cool but tedious. The thing that pulled me in was the gameplay other than the mapping. The mapping itself would not pull me into it but the leveling system does. Edit: with my first few minutes of the game the worst thing I noticed is they bothered to put dlc portraits but did not bother to use the cool animations from the 3ds versions. That’s very unfortunate. These new 2d enemy portraits are very sad compared to what we had on 3ds. That being said they are serviceable and much better than what other old school dungeon crawlers offer. I’m not sure what other people think but for 90 dollars we should have gotten the better enemy models
There is too Pete an Asian physical release for $70 for Switch. Of course it will end up being $80 with tax and shipping, but still Im personally getting it because all 3 of these games were $40 brand new when they came out on the ds, so really it is kind of a deal buying all 3 for 80 when u think about it that way. Plus if you wanna buy the ds games now theyre over $100 each complete so yeah. Would I like it to be a $40 release for the collection? Yeah. But as games move to digital only it will give publishers the power to price games whatever they want.
Hi Pete: I saw this on the eshop last week and it caught my attention as I had heard of the series but never played it. But, when I saw it was $40 per game I thought that was a bit steep and I would need to do more research first. So, I appreciate the video. I’m still on the fence but if I do purchase I am likely to try it on “picnic” mode as I’m concerned the difficulty you mentioned might frustrate me and cause me to move on to something else.
The first few dungeons are never *that* bad, so Normal difficulty would be a fine way to test the waters also. Tho I'd still place Etrian 4 as the best for beginners in terms of Difficulty and QoL (picnic or not). Have a good one either way.
Okay I'm wondering why they priced it so high because this would not have cost them 'much' to release. It's not a new game. Graphics have been upgraded but that is not commensurate with the price of a fully newly made game.
Yeah. I disagree, I dropped this series multiple times before I got tips on classes and play styles. Before that I was beating my head against a wall, now I can't put these games down.
80$ is a bit much, I love the series but that's a lot of money... Not even the MegaMan.exe collection released for THAT much money and you get like 10 games for 60 bucks! But 3 remastered games for 80 dollars? Err..... Idk.... I might wait for a sale for that price.

2:41 Brutal in what way Peter? As far as im concerned rpgs are not difficult, they just require patience and preseverence and as long as you have that, you can pretty much beat any rpg game. Unless you mean something else entirely like navigating the first person dungeons like the original Megami Tensei games which in that case they are more frustrating then brutal.
They are kinda difficult in the way SMT games are in that you are expected to use buffs and debuffs to lock enemies out of using their strong skills, plan out your party growth carefully, be mindful about weakness/ resistances, etc.
Personally I preordered on Steam Deck because it’s still cheaper than buying EO III for Ds (the only game in the series I don’t own). With that said, the price is pure robbery.
4:35 That's just terrible advice, there are so many skills that are objectively bad and a waste of skill points. "Sense of accomplishment" isn't the same as resting characters over and over again because you picked a trap skill.
The untold games do have some issues in classic mode from what I've heard, but I can only speak personally about untold 1. Untold 1 has story mode only areas that are done in between sections of the main dungeon, and the entire game's level/ difficulty curve takes these areas into account. Since you don't visit these areas in classic mode it leads to noticable difficulty jumps in areas that you don't get in story mode. Untold 2 I've heard fixed this issue but had a different one. Apparently the story mode exclusive classes can pump out way more damage compared to the regular classes and boss HP is balanced for the story mode party.
While I'm looking forward to it, the price is indeed pretty steep. If it was $80, but they included _all_ the EO main games, then I would had instantly recommend buying it.
Yeah that price point is terrible. I was interested as a casual to the series (but still know enough about it) until I saw that price. If I feel like that then a lot of new comers are just gonna skip it. Releasing so close to Zelda at a higher price point just makes me feel this title will be brushed aside and be skipped over by many sadly.

I just finished playing Etrian Odyssey 1 (not the post game) and it took me 47 hours to beat.
Definitely worth $40 imo. Plenty of things to do.

Yeah I would love to see more SMT games remastered and released on modern hardware, maybe with some of the QoL changes added over the series life put into the older games, like sure Persona series is great, STM 3 is good, and Devil Survivor is as well, so is Soul Hackers 2, but there are a shit ton of other great games in the SMT universe both of the main line and of all the spin off sub series. While not the greatest sub series, the one I hope they touch into next of remaking is the Devil Survivor sub series since it is the most different that doesn't have that modern of a remake yet unlike Persona, Dev il Summoner, and main line ( I mean yeah Devil Children/Demikids hasn't seen a western release since the Gameboy advance but there are plenty of other games similar to that style where as Survivor is more unique)

1:38 games these days are around 60 to 80 bucks, so that sounds like a great deal.

I really want to pick this up because I have every Japanese version of the series, both DS and 3DS versions, and even Japanese art books and guide for 4, 5 and X. But unfortunately I’m unemployed now and I don’t think I can in good conscience get this on release. I hope it doesn’t sell out fast and get really expensive 😢

I don't think they are actually making physical releases anyway. I tried multiple times to go into the store and get a preorder for physical release and they said it didn't exist. So you should be good getting digital whenever money allows 😊. Good luck with the job hunt

@@MrJeb123 There’s a physical release in Japan, and I live in Asia so it wouldn’t be too hard to procure a copy if I wanted to spend the money. One of the preorder sets comes with a touchpen for switch

I’m upset about the price. It’s priced higher in America than Asian territories. However my lame ass will still be getting this. This game is the only reason I own or have owned Nintendo consoles for the last decade. Surprise it’s not Zelda! Anyone is crazy for playing this on the highest difficulty though lmao ehhhh dungeon mapping was cool but tedious. The thing that pulled me in was the gameplay other than the mapping. The mapping itself would not pull me into it but the leveling system does.
Edit: with my first few minutes of the game the worst thing I noticed is they bothered to put dlc portraits but did not bother to use the cool animations from the 3ds versions. That’s very unfortunate. These new 2d enemy portraits are very sad compared to what we had on 3ds. That being said they are serviceable and much better than what other old school dungeon crawlers offer. I’m not sure what other people think but for 90 dollars we should have gotten the better enemy models
There is too Pete an Asian physical release for $70 for Switch. Of course it will end up being $80 with tax and shipping, but still Im personally getting it because all 3 of these games were $40 brand new when they came out on the ds, so really it is kind of a deal buying all 3 for 80 when u think about it that way. Plus if you wanna buy the ds games now theyre over $100 each complete so yeah. Would I like it to be a $40 release for the collection? Yeah. But as games move to digital only it will give publishers the power to price games whatever they want.

Hi Pete: I saw this on the eshop last week and it caught my attention as I had heard of the series but never played it. But, when I saw it was $40 per game I thought that was a bit steep and I would need to do more research first. So, I appreciate the video. I’m still on the fence but if I do purchase I am likely to try it on “picnic” mode as I’m concerned the difficulty you mentioned might frustrate me and cause me to move on to something else.
The first few dungeons are never *that* bad, so Normal difficulty would be a fine way to test the waters also. Tho I'd still place Etrian 4 as the best for beginners in terms of Difficulty and QoL (picnic or not). Have a good one either way.

Okay I'm wondering why they priced it so high because this would not have cost them 'much' to release. It's not a new game. Graphics have been upgraded but that is not commensurate with the price of a fully newly made game.
Yeah. I disagree, I dropped this series multiple times before I got tips on classes and play styles. Before that I was beating my head against a wall, now I can't put these games down.
80$ is a bit much, I love the series but that's a lot of money... Not even the MegaMan.exe collection released for THAT much money and you get like 10 games for 60 bucks! But 3 remastered games for 80 dollars? Err..... Idk.... I might wait for a sale for that price.
Love these games but the price feels a bit steep...feel like the cost of FF pixel remaster was pricy and that was 6 games included vs 3....think theyre taking advantage of the rarity of these, tho i will say, if ur a pirate u can get them easily 🤣

2:41 Brutal in what way Peter? As far as im concerned rpgs are not difficult, they just require patience and preseverence and as long as you have that, you can pretty much beat any rpg game. Unless you mean something else entirely like navigating the first person dungeons like the original Megami Tensei games which in that case they are more frustrating then brutal.
They are kinda difficult in the way SMT games are in that you are expected to use buffs and debuffs to lock enemies out of using their strong skills, plan out your party growth carefully, be mindful about weakness/ resistances, etc.

Personally I preordered on Steam Deck because it’s still cheaper than buying EO III for Ds (the only game in the series I don’t own). With that said, the price is pure robbery.

4:35 That's just terrible advice, there are so many skills that are objectively bad and a waste of skill points. "Sense of accomplishment" isn't the same as resting characters over and over again because you picked a trap skill.
1 and 2 are better on 3ds arent they Pete? They're the untold versions, these are the originals.
I guess it depends if you want the ability to play on the TV with the new "HD" resolutions and quality of life improvements.
The untold games do have some issues in classic mode from what I've heard, but I can only speak personally about untold 1.
Untold 1 has story mode only areas that are done in between sections of the main dungeon, and the entire game's level/ difficulty curve takes these areas into account. Since you don't visit these areas in classic mode it leads to noticable difficulty jumps in areas that you don't get in story mode.
Untold 2 I've heard fixed this issue but had a different one. Apparently the story mode exclusive classes can pump out way more damage compared to the regular classes and boss HP is balanced for the story mode party.
While I'm looking forward to it, the price is indeed pretty steep. If it was $80, but they included _all_ the EO main games, then I would had instantly recommend buying it.
So far, the most I'll do is keep them on my switch wishlist. if they drop in price, I might bite

Yeah that price point is terrible. I was interested as a casual to the series (but still know enough about it) until I saw that price. If I feel like that then a lot of new comers are just gonna skip it. Releasing so close to Zelda at a higher price point just makes me feel this title will be brushed aside and be skipped over by many sadly.
