Your filming, editing, music selection, on screen visuals, WOW. You're truly an inspiration, thank you for making this informative video. I also edit on premier and use the same codecs as proxy, but I have a major issue when I start to pile videos on top of each other, even if I nest them the system slows down. When adding other things like motion graphics it then crashes and I have to restart multiple times, do you have any tips for that ? System is i7 8700 32GB RTX2080 so not too bad

    You cannot get a tiff from jpeg, same with h264 to apple prores, you can physically but it will be lossy. Shoot initially in prores and do not transcode as the more you convert the worse it gets. Mov container however can use inside itself an h264 file with added metadata, but still the footage will be h264. If you want to edit natively an h264 get an Edius an Intel k processor.

    • @PremiereGal
      @PremiereGal  2 роки тому

      One more thing to note: if you shoot canon, you can shoot in All-I - not IPB to get intraframe. not everyone can shoot in ProRes, but I do recommend getting an Ninja Atomos recording monitor which can 👍

    • @PremiereGal

    Kelsey, this is fantastic. My new Macbook Pro Max (64gb ram/ 2 TB storage!) will appreciate working with ProRes files!
    Is there any downside to "import then transcode" as described vs. an independent transcode workflow in Me ?
    In other words, if my workflow includes
    1. inspect and name 4k 422 clips from the finder;
    2. upload all clips to backup cloud storage before any editing
    3. WOULD NOW BE THE TIME to transcode to ProRes using Me (prior to Pr) ?
    In other words, is there any reason NOT to bring a bunch of clips to transcode in Me and just let the machine work overnight if possible prior to editing?
    Is there a benefit by keeping it all within a Pr session file?
    THX!

    • @Mommymakeup
      @Mommymakeup 2 роки тому +1

      oh, nevermind on trying to game the system -- Me transcodes incredibly fast on my new MBP Max. ~31GB of H.264 442 transcoded to ~112GB ProRes 422 in a few minutes.
      So the workflow to use ingest / transcode from within Pr is Just Fine. Um. Wow. Thanks for this video! Wondering out loud what happens if I remove the H264 files from local storage once transcoded? I guess I have to test this.

    Thanks for sharing this tip! I've been spending the week re-learning premiere after years absence (and some tinkering in Resolve).
    I do have a 2 quick questions if you don't mind 🙂
    1. Does the transcode folder clear itself out after the project has been exported or do those larger files remain, needing to be cleaned up should a user need more space?
    2. Would there be benefit to this method over instead setting Video Preview in Sequence Settings to Apple ProRes 422 Proxy and then on export doing "Match Sequence preview settings" under preset?
    Looking forward to your input!

    Workflow 2: Record H.265 > Edit (small files, require fast computer) > Export H.265 (best quality)
    Record H.264 only if use video as it is, without editing -- or qualiy is not so important.

    Thank you for making this video. I use multiple gopro cameras and they shoot in both h.264 and h.265. I usually edit in these codecs and my pc can handle it but I am trying to find a different method for when I'm using my laptop on the road. It's not as powerful so it has a hard time. Is it feasible to transcode 100+ clips? (Sometimes I use 3 gopro cameras so that I can have 3 different angles of the same clip). I find the proxy method is even more cumbersome. Do you have any suggestions? Also..... if I transcode to RroRes, will my windows machine (using premiere pro) be able to work with that codec? Thanks so much. UPDATE.... I gave it a try and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much for sharing this. I've been trying to find a good way to transcode only the clips that I will use and this is exactly what I need!
