I respect your opinion but Menace is one of my favorite hood movies. Yes, it was sad. Yes, it was funny. I thought it was realistic though. I grew up with dudes like characters in the movie. I even saw a fight that played out almost exactly like Cane stomping Ileena's cousin.
I definitely have grown to appreciate Boyz N Da Hood over Menace as I’ve gotten older. Larenz Tate is what makes Menace a great movie, his performance was stellar but I did know kids who wanted to be O Dogg when we were growing up and a lot of them are in prison or dead. Caine was honestly a bad person
Stacey survived and so did Ronnie and Anthony. O-Dog was heading to jail for double murder though. They showed the police putting him in the cop car at the end.
A better story for Prison Song would’ve been them following the friendship of Elijah and his friend. One friend goes down a bad path winding him up in jail or very close to it; the other friend takes his gift of art all the way to college and beyond.

Hot Boyz I liked it as a kid but as an adult I realized how trash it was that I cut it off after she died. The transition of them deciding to be drug dealers didn't make sense. Menace II society I watch it for mostly laughs never could get into the seriousness of it. I know young 🥷 that will watch it and get inspired by Lo Dogg and Kane.
I remember watching Prison Song on Netflix back in 2020 and that was the first time I cried during a hood movie I even talked to the woman who played Elijah's girlfriend in the movie and she told me that's the reaction she here's all the time.
