Hawaii has always been a up and down program. When tit comes to football and basketball. It’s the recruiting. They need to get a better pipeline. They honestly should be getting everything that the old pac 12 schools aren’t getting
Recruiting has been a problem since forever. There’s some amazing talent at local schools like Kahuku, Campbell, Mililani, Punahou, St. Louis etc. Problem is athletic program is wildly inconsistent and comparatively weak as opposed to even Cal where the QB from Campbell is set to go. Dillon Gabriel, Mariota, Tua, Alohi Gilman, all local talent, all going abroad cause they can achieve better results.
Plan and simple nobody wants to play in Hawai'i because the coaches don't know how to use Hawai'i to recruit. It's like you wanna play and live and go to school in a tropical paradise should literally be the recruiting.
@@slymongoose420Hawaii sucks to live in compared to other places and the corruption to keep things the same as tradition is too strong for things to improve

Leave a mess for incoming president? This AD helped eliminate travel subsidies for UH, and landed the Nike deal which will bring in much needed revenue. He found a permanent home for for all the athletic teams, which is not a guarantee in this day of college athletics. He saved the department MILLIONS. That alone should have kept him at his position. Lassner is hiding something, or doing someone a favor.
The Mountain West move and Nike deal are enough reason to believe that Craig Angelos was doing a great job as Hawaii's athletic director. Hopefully this move can be reversed by their next president, because their athletic program has a lot of potential
Not really! Almost every college program relies heavily on the Football program to bring on large amounts of money so that money can be distributed to other sports that don't bring in money. Our football program to say the least is a joke. They don't sell out in an already small stadium and nobody supports the football program because Hawaii is bandwagon fans. They only come out when they win. The football program brings in the same amount you see at local high school football games and this is supposed to be a Division 1 program.
The Nike deal is now at risk. It has been on the President’s desk for over a month since this video. All he had to do is sign the bottom line. Now Nike announced that it may cut off the deal because there has been no movement on it and the point man they were working with is being fired. So, they take that as a signal that UHdoesn’t want it.
It's a tragedy that politics are ruining UH"s climb back up to relevancy. It makes no sense whatsoever to get rid of an AD that is doing what an AD is supposed to do: improve the overall health of the Athletic Department, and as someone that grew up in hawaii and has fond memories of going to UH games during the June Jones era, it makes me significantly less inclined to stay up late and watch the games if UH is going to CONTINUE to prove that they have no interest in fielding competitive athletics.
It's pointless and ludicrous to be comparing the June Jones era with today. If June was coaching today, he'd be struggling too. With NIL and the transfer portal, there is NO WAY that Hawaii would have been able to hold onto Colt Brennan, Ryan Grice-Mullin, Jason Rivers, and Davone Bess. ALL OF THEM would have surely transferred out of Hawaii because some rich school would have offered them huge NIL deals that Hawaii would not be able to compete with.
Disappointed with Lassner. He has a record of poor decisions such as the buzzeo fiasco but somehow he survived that and then went in to become president.
The Pres’ silence on why he made this decision is louder than anything. Of course we’re all going to think he’s hiding something and his “performance” reasoning is bs. Thanks for making this video and amplifying this issue - I bet it’s gotten way more attention than he ever thought it would.
Lassner said a lot in his press conference, and yet said nothing! As U.H. is a state university, he should disclose why he made the decision to fire the AD.
If even 25% of the talented kids in Hawaii went to U of H they would be dominant in college sports. The proud state of Hawaii produces some of the finest talent in NCAA athletics. I hope Hawaii can rebuild.
Other than it being Hawaii, they will have a hard time recruiting. Then they put them in basically a high school stadium. I see a dim future for 🌈 Warriors athletics.
While June Jones is arguably the best UH football head coach in the school's history, I should take a moment to mention another head coach, Todd Graham, who had the potential to turn this program around for the better. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Graham was the head coach of the UH football team and led the program to two Hawaii Bowl invites in just two years as HC. One major plus for the cash-strapped UH athletic program was that Graham was hired for cheap despite his successful track record as HC. Graham led Tulsa to 3 bowl wins as their HC, including beating UH in the Hawaii Bowl. Graham then went on to leading Arizona State to 5 bowl appearances as HC, winning the PAC-12 South, and being voted PAC-12 Coach of the Year in 2013. So I thought UH was fortunate they got Graham. But then woke politics reared its ugly head as UH administrators, its fan base and even the Hawaii State Legislature made a big stink out of Graham's coaching style. They accused him of making inappropriate comments by comparing Hawaii to a third world country for not stocking Mountain View in UH's vending machines along with Graham calling the ukulele playing of one of his players f***ing irritating. They even placed all of the blame on Graham when several UH players entered the transfer portal in 2021 despite the fact that every team in the Mountain West Conference, with the exception of Boise State, had just as many or nearly as many players enter the portal that year. Graham eventually resigned because of all the mounting political pressure. UH then hired Timmy Chang as head coach despite Chang not having any HC experience. In Chang's 3 years as HC he has not led UH to a single bowl game.
@@TuxedoCat-ek4nf How could I ever forget. UH prioritizes personality over qualifications or DEI over MEI to go back to the woke justification for hiring, firing and retaining HCs. Thus, UH got what they deserve.
Hawaii has some of the best High school talent, but Hawaii can’t get there home grown talent to stay home. UH, is basically our Pro team, so why is there no ,money to pay these stars to stay home.?
I’ve been following UH football since the Dick Tomey era, and it’s been downhill since June Jones left. The program struggles with both local and national recruiting, and it shows. These days, locals would rather watch high school football than pay to see UH play. Honestly, until they commit to building a competitive D1 program, they might as well drop down to the junior college level.
Please don't compare the Tomey and June Jones era to today's college football landscape. June Jones would be struggling today too. There is NO WAY that Colt Brennan, Davone Bess, Chad Owens, Jason Rivers, or any of those athletes would have stayed at Hawaii if NIL and the transfer portal were available. Some big team would have lured Colt away with some massive NIL deal that Hawaii would NEVER be able to match.

Gotta love Harisson Bodendorf on the UH baseball team. I have 0 ties to Hawaii, but I saw Bidendorf and other 'Bows in Summer ball and now have an interest in their baseball team. Go 'Bows
Well this sucks. I think most college football and basketball fans like it when Hawaii is doing well. Truly enjoyed watching those Colt Brennan led teams. Rest In Peace #15.
Really is a shame guys like Fifita and Mcmillan chose Arizona over Hawaii. My favorite player is Kallin Spiller, the 2023 WBB Captain. We need to keep our stars in state in college. Don't let these main land teams steal them.
Lassner is such a damn idiot. Kept on Matlin forever when the program was nose diving down hard, then hired someone that actually tried to take their job seriously and help the school, then fire him for no good reason not even 2 years into Angelos' tenure. Lassner wasn't even going to be President after next year so what the hell was the point? Just spiteful, childish, dumb, and a disgrace. He better not show his face his face in Hawaii, locals not gonna take kindly to this clown PURPOSEFULLY RUINING HAWAII ATHLETICS.
Seems like someone of power got jealous or rubbed the wrong way by Angelos. For everything he has done a better example of why he was fired needs to be stated otherwise this reeks of pettiness/jealousy. Almost like someone wants the sports program to fail.
I’m so glad everyone in the comments is talking shit about Lasner cause this guy been holding UH back for years. I don’t get why UH hires people who aren’t from Hawai’i to represent the highest level of the University🤷🏽♂️
Hawaii football program, seems to always have trouble keeping the program stable. Unlike Kent st or Kennesaw st, it seems like travel problems, occasional bad weather and money situations are causing Hawaii football program being a average team
lol what is Kennesaw’s reasoning according to you? They had the most successful start to a D1 program ever, who cares if they had a bad first year as a full FBS program everyone virtually will. Go look at what they did in the FCS, it was unreal and that’s why it’s so disgusting to see their coach be let go when he’s done everything for that team since day 1.
@@thecatwrangler9448disagree the OWLs head coach has been mediocre since 2021. Three back to back losing seasons isn’t gonna cut it at any program. What are you smoking?
When a majority of the student athletes come out in support of the AD, that sums up that the wrong decision was made. Just dumb and another reason for all the top local athletes to leave for the mainland. Angelos has made amazing moves and decisions in his time. Lassner is an idiot and let his feelings get in the way of doing what was right.
It is all about money and the lack there of. The A.D deserves a raise his disagreements on his evaluation is warrented .The prez should just retire it seems to me this is personal not a management decision.
Yeah, Angelos got the raw end of this deal by outgoing UH president Lassner (whose own admin was awful)....prob time to cut the entire athletics program or drop down to D-II. And, no need one new, expensive stadium. Hope Phil Knight and Nike back out of any proposed deal w/ Hawai'i. And Rich Miano's name is pronounced "MEE-ah-no"
Maybe he was too good. President knows he gonna make the next president look good if he stays. Now Hawaii got to go find some other guy. Doesn’t matter though. NCAA football has changed a lot from the old glory days. The level of competition is much higher. FCS or division 1B (people think this is DII but that is even lower division). It would make Hawaii more competitive in games, however they would still lose money they still have to travel far. The recruiting would be much harder so eventually our talent pool will fall to the middle of the FCS pack, and no one in Hawaii wants Hawaii to get to that low level of football.
UH Head should have talk to his board first, get their consensus. If the majority agree to fire him. Then he should be fired if not doing his job.. A great leader also will talk to this individual let him know what he need to improve on, give him time to make improvements..if unable to meet those expectations..then Jp fire him…

Hawaii is all politics 😂
How come all the highlights were from the same football game?
My favorite play was watching Goeas downfield blocking 40+ yards beyond the line of scrimmage
But yet they get to keep MWC membership The Mountain West will survive just fine without HA.
So does this effect the volleyball and basketball that play in The Big West as well? Like will those sports go to the Mountain West?
Basketball & women’s v-ball will join Mountain West. Men’s v-ball will either stay in the Big West or move to the MPSF.
@ does that go into effect in the 2025/26 season?
@@justinganz1173 No. UH doesn’t become a full-time Mountain West member until July 1, 2026. So beginning with the 2026-27 sports season.
It's been a mess for the last 25 years. I was a former season ticket holder.
Gotta love Harisson Bodendorf on the UH baseball team. I have 0 ties to Hawaii, but I saw Bidendorf and other 'Bows in Summer ball and now have an interest in their baseball team. Go 'Bows
it would be nice to have boise state and hawaii both be good in the conference. i do plan on rebuilding hawaii in the CFB25 or 26 game.
Well this sucks. I think most college football and basketball fans like it when Hawaii is doing well. Truly enjoyed watching those Colt Brennan led teams. Rest In Peace #15.
Really nice video, keep it up broski
Really is a shame guys like Fifita and Mcmillan chose Arizona over Hawaii. My favorite player is Kallin Spiller, the 2023 WBB Captain. We need to keep our stars in state in college. Don't let these main land teams steal them.
Fifita and McMillan went to hs in cali
@ they’re both Hawaiian tho homie. Tribal tattoos and they make their white coach wear a flower necklace. Hawaii needed to recruit them.
Thats f'd up. He doesn't want to see UH athletics succeed without him being there.
Mad they don’t put the walkout in cfb25
Disaster? It’s a disgrace. Wake up people. UH has never been strong in football. Only volleyball.
Sounds like the outgoing president is setting them up to fail miserably. Egos are a crazy thing
Bruh Lasner is easily one of the most hated past UH presidents, letting the AD go is only cementing that status😂
During those good 2000's teams, it was ruined by the AD (Frazier i believe) . 🤷
can’t wait to see Jeremiah Barrett White out on that field with Micah Alejado out on that field next season
Why can’t they keep all of the talent being developed on the Islands? 🤷🏿
I believe Micah Alejado will turn them around
I remember when chang played.hawaii was exciting to watch back in those days.college football has a whole was better back in those days
Seems like someone of power got jealous or rubbed the wrong way by Angelos. For everything he has done a better example of why he was fired needs to be stated otherwise this reeks of pettiness/jealousy. Almost like someone wants the sports program to fail.
WE ARE FUCT
I couldn't even get through that part at the end, this ex president is so full of shit I can smell it from IL
I’m so glad everyone in the comments is talking shit about Lasner cause this guy been holding UH back for years. Athletics especially but other areas too, this dude has always been hated since he got the job, I’m glad he retiring. I don’t get why UH hires people who aren’t from Hawai’i to represent the highest level of the University🤷🏽♂️
Fave UH player of all time...Colt Brennan RIP 🙏
What are you smoking?
kent state hasnt beat 1A opponent in over 2 years and is 1-3 in bowl games.. the flashes are an embarrassment to the MAC
Wait, Colt Brennan is RIP?
They saw the pac 12 and realized they could have gotten a better deal from the mountain west
You got family ties to the state? Where from
Timmy Chang and Ashley Lelie was my favorite players from Hawaii
The New President could hire him back, if he is smart. The outgoing president has some vendetta, possibly.
UH Head should have talk to his board first, get their consensus. If the majority agree to fire him. Then he should be fired if not doing his job..
A great leader also will talk to this individual let him know what he need to improve on, give him time to make improvements..if unable to meet those expectations..then Jp fire him…
Stop saying that Angelos got us into the Mountain West. That happens at the Presidential level.
