- Porsche GT3 driven by a driver with 1000's of professional laps gets a big shock as a Toyota Yaris GR with almost half the horsepower takes on a few damp laps at Ruapuna Raceway (18 June 2022).
This trackday hosted by Christchurch Trackdays has multiple groups for road cars and in the session the Yaris passes BMW 135i, Lotus Exige, Subaru Sti and even a Holden V8. As you can see the Porsche has serious straight line speed but through the rest of the track cannot make major gains, this results in a faster, unofficial, lap time by the Yaris. Driven by Adrian Curtis an autocross and hillclimb driver its pretty exciting to watch. Like and Subscribe for more videos to come.
Took a GR Yaris to a Porsche Club track day last year. Could catch anything in the corners but got caught on the straights

Im a yaris owner too but its abit hard to believe that a gry had a faster unofficial laptime than the gt3. It was gone when it track cleared up. Yes the gt3 did take some funny lines but still...
this track is short and very tight, the yaris excels at this level, the driver is also a multiple national champion with lots of experience. its very hard to get the power down early in a Porsche in the wet and if you have ever driven one or any turbo 2wd car in the rain you will know all about it. Yaris is a weapon. perhaps one of the most fun std out the box cars i have ever driven.
I am a GR owner too and I tell you, if the track is not dry, you can follow every car, especially with no awd!!

That 993 was waiting on the yaris just pacing it just enough to keep it going...
I thought that too but the owner tells me that's all he had.. It turns out he also holds that unofficial lap record in his Porsche race car.

Nooo way... that 993 I'm sure was not flooring it... cuz had the 993 been pedal to the metal 500hp that yaris stand no chance... a gr yaris is 1.3 l inline 3cylinder 265 hp .. if light tuned can maybe get 350 hp ? That's still not enough to follow that 993 with 500whp..or if 500 to crank thatsxabout 449 450whp. . Yaris dont stand a chance in theory n in practical lol... lol 🤣🙏🤷♂️👌

The Yaris is awesome, I have one, I also have a 911 GTS and it will mop the floor with the Yaris on any track.
Now, when I finally get the 400hp that's coming to the Yaris, it's going to be a different story.
What was the shock ?
It was to me when I found out he was a Porsche Cup driver.

The GT3 driver really should just move over and then try to keep up rather than hold you up. Many Porsche drivers are bellends that think they are in a race.
Would severely damage their ego. Paid a premium only to be able to keep a yaris away in the straights
