Hi Veg, sorry for the late reply, trying to catch up after a busy few months. Late year I was put in charge of Comms in Div 24. A few renewals are driving me crazy. lol
I liked the CB98 but they stopped making them years ago. I like the 99 better than the big stick. My 99 is about 4 years old and still working great. Good luck
I believe the shield gets placed over the reducer insert before screwing on the pl-259 connecter. even though you read continuity its not correct. look up instructions in ARRL book.
So he did not show climbing a ladder, installing the antenna, but, he told, and show all that was needed. If you are looking for entertainment go to the movies, looking for knowledge here it is. When CB was big I owned a store and more customers came back saying their antenna was NG, when they returned it I saw they made the U-bolts so tight they crushed the base. In some, they cut the coax to run it through the wall then spliced it back together. He/this video covers this in a small way without making a 30-minute video. Yes the video sucks HAHA but good info. Enjoy your antenna.
I remember when I was a kid my dad had a CB in his truck and the antenna was a 10' fiberglass whip. I've been looking for one for a while and the only place I found one was at a truck stop outside of town. My question to you is Should I get the 10' or the 4' whip antenna....
Well!! lol. size versus placement. The best place is center of the vehicle with the antenna mount mounted to metal, I think I'll do a quick vid because there is a lot to think about.
Metal is airways better than fiberglass, and for simplicity and functionality not to mention a solid ground plane, get a magnet mount, Wilson 1000 hands down the best, or a little wil if you are on a budget. Place on the center of your roof and you are gold.
back in the 70's when I had a base radio, I had a Starduster and I was real pleased with it, most of the time I could get out to close to 50 miles,, maybe closer as the crow flies,, or I guess about any bird.. lol you have enough core samples to build a house,, lol
Nice video every run into problem because the shield is only touching the reducer and not soldered I was always told to solder the braid to the pl259 your way makes it simplifier dont have to worry about heating up the 259 to much and melting everything - Charles
No, but if I was going to be using it outdoors I fold over and solder or if running high power. But all in all, no problems and have had the coax in the van for years without solder.
That's it. I wanted to put it up today but the snow stopped me. :( I put in a though wall and ran coax from the antenna to it, now I need to make another coax for inside. I hooked up but one of my old jumpers were bad so will fix tomorrow.
I don't know the A99 internally but, if there is any kind of internal matching network then there might be some inductors. If there are, a DC ohm meter will measure as a short but because or reactance at RF frequencies it won't be a short in the intended band.
I haven't used it a lot I only have it in case I want to hear the crap on 19. :) However, I do check it every now and then and never above 1.5 across the 40.
Thanks Sue, you are too kind. I wanted to show the install and swr adjustment but the battery died. lol. The shop has seems to have had a few more radios and a few homemade antennas.
For those who missed the CB craze of the 70's this was part of the fun it was all about
For sure, we had CB hunts, skip contest, coffee breaks, and more.
I'am Your Newest Subscriber Great Videos I Love My Antron 99

You are going back 35-40 years. lol They were a great stick made by Francis. They had the gray 98, the orange 88
Greta job, I just saw this, hope u still trucking
Thanks for stopping by. Still working the radios.

You must have misunderstood. I have been in radio/tv for 56 years, taught for 11 years. I may have made a mistake so I'll check vid
This video should have been been entitled… “The workbench”. rock on bro!

lol, maybe so.
@@buzzsah I've just bought this Antenna and hopefully get it up in the next few days or so.
You should enjoy it. I shill have it up and running.

Thumbs up my friend keep up the great work. Happy holidays :-)
Sorry for the late reply, for some reason, it just popped up
Nice job. I also measure using my arm span. It comes in real handy.
Right it does, I see friends looking for a tape so they can cut a long piece of cordage when all they need is to know.

CB was fun back then, I went through a few radios before I bought the Tram D201 and I ran a vert electronic beam The Supper Scanner, no rotor needed.
The Glock of CB antennas...they make better but it's all you need
Just found your comment, sorry. lol, guns and CB's :)

Good vid and like what you say about the A99. What was the thing you screwed the wire to in the wall?
Thanks. It's a through-wall antenna connector. It's so I can attach the antenna coax to it outside and a jumper to the radio inside.
Did anyone ever see the antenna? The only thing I saw was the workbench.
If you don't know what a fiberglass stick looks like maybe you should buy one, better yet don't buy a radio either.
You can't beat an A-99 for a low maintenance vertical. They'll usually tune up on 20 meters if you need them to.
That's it. I wanted to put it up today but the snow stopped me. :( I put in a though wall and ran coax from the antenna to it, now I need to make another coax for inside. I hooked up but one of my old jumpers were bad so will fix tomorrow.
Put one of these up a couple months ago ,hooked it up to an old Citizen m6 cb radio with a d104 power mic ,talks like mad.
Good to hear, mine has been up now about 8 months and still standing tall and working, Good antenns
I'm having trouble getting my swr out of the red. Should there be a short between the centre coax pin and the part that clamps to the pole?
No, sorry it took as long as it did for me to reply. The center of coax should not be connected to the chrome mounting part of the antenna.

Robert Ruth you are correct. It did turn out to be a faulty bottom section. Supplier sent a new one and all sorted.its a great antenna
Happy New Year
Thank you, Happy New Year to you and your loved ones
Did you ever hang it ???
It has been up about 2+ years, have I used it? Not really. I checked the swr's and good. I just hooked it up this week.
Hello i have the question, what is the size of the biggest elements please
It is a 3 pc all close to equal size no ground elements just 3pc making one upright.
Nice Buzz six below here 💕👍👍
Thanks Joe. six below? wow.
24 feet is wrong, you want 18 or 27 (multiple's of 9 feet) to keep 50ohm at CB Freq
9 is a 1/4 wave on 11m, but you can run in 3's on coax. again I'll watch vid
maybe the older ones were good but here the newer ones are junk with highe swr readings that can't tune down very decent.
I haven't used it a lot I only have it in case I want to hear the crap on 19. :) However, I do check it every now and then and never above 1.5 across the 40.
Ty for the share
what kind of cb r u going 2 get?
I have an old Uniden PC mobile I took out of my van. I need to buy a smaller one for the van seeing I need space and hardly ever use it.
o ok. could u do a vid on it sometime? i dont think i've ever seen them..
K, maybe today.
k thanks :)
We're you happy dealing with Copper Electronics? Their price for the A-99 anttena complete kit is just $110!
I had no issues with them.
@@buzzsah OK - thank you!!!
Nice video and great shop. 73 Leo.. k1zek on you tube as k1zek
Thanks Sue, you are too kind. I wanted to show the install and swr adjustment but the battery died. lol. The shop has seems to have had a few more radios and a few homemade antennas.
oops Leo. lol
Well it's not 9 oclock it's more like 9:57.
Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
300 cubits in length, 50 cubits in width and 30 cubits in height
WOW, without my coffee I had no idea. :)
Is that in Rubiks cubits? :)
Well I don't know.
Probably not. I think the ark would have sunk if it was.
Or they wood have had a tough time filling in all the seams.
nice table..... where is the freaking antenna? lol. u need to get some help on how to make video....lol
the antenna is 18ft, table 3 and you are right a nice table. lol everyone knows what an A99 looks like but not everyone knows my table. :)
This is a bad video, why are we watching you move the camera all over the place.👎
I don't know, why are you?
Good content, however. but he not quintain tarratino. he a regular guy
