Yesterday, I finally finished Origins main story for the first time after all these years. :D (Started playing again because of you, of course). Thankfully there are still a lot of side quests and DLC to do.

Here's a fun fact (Possibly a small error in choosing the name for the character or maybe it's intentional???): "Hotep-Heres" does mean "Satisfied" in Ancient Egyptian as stated in the game, but it is the feminine form of the word. There was a real person with this name in Ancient Egypt. Queen Hotep-Heres was King Khufu's mother.
The masculine form of the name should be "Hotep-Heref".

It could potentially be a Hellenization of the name - in Greek, an "es," "is," "os," or "ous" ending for a name was masculine, and we see this added to foreign names in some cases like "Horu" becoming "Horus" or "Ausir" becoming "Osiris" - but I think it's probably just a mistake, since there are a lot of mistakes in historical grammar in this game. They also pronounce the ph as a f sound even though the P and H should be separate - the combination of P and H doesn't make a F sound in Greek either, only in Greek words that transferred into English via Latin, so the pronunciation only makes sense in English.

@@SomasAcademy I agree. I think it's a mistake too. It's also possible that when the devs saw the original name they mistakenly thought that it was hellenized. And yes, it is not the only case of weird names in the game. The name "Shadya" is a modern Arabic name and there is no possibility of it existing in Egypt back then.

@@mhosni86 Oof, I didn't know that Shadya was Arabic, that's a really weird choice lol. Another example of weird names, Bayek says that Khemu was "named for Egypt"... Egypt's native name has had several forms over the existence of the Egyptian language, but none of them ever included the throaty sound they make for the "Kh" in "Khemu." My best guess for how they ended up with "Khemu" was that someone read the transliteration for the modern Coptic version of the word as "kheme" and assumed that the "kh" made the same sound that kh usually makes in transliterations of Ancient Egyptian, when in the Coptic case is actually just represents a more normal k sound with extra breath. And I'm not sure why they ended it with an "u" either. In Demotic (the stage of the language Bayek should be speaking, which they made no effort to represent in the game) it would probably be pronounced something like "Kemi" or "Kema."

@@SomasAcademy My Ancient Egyptian grammar is very rusty, I haven't read up on it for many years, lol. And my studies were in Middle Egyptian (Middle and New Kingdom), I don't know much about Demotic and late Egyptian. But I'll try to give my best guess about the name Khemu. It's a name I haven't encountered in any real Egyptian text or in history. They certainly made it up (Not the first time for the series, names like Bayek and Altair also don't exist in real life). It's clearly taken from the word "KEMET" which as well known was one of the most prominent names of Egypt in the ancient era. Coptic has different dialects, and I'm assuming they imagined in their head that Bayek's Egyptian language may have had a different accent or dialect that turned the "K" into a "Kh" and put a suffix "U" because it sounds cool, lol.
These little things are so amusing to me.
