2:16 Intentionally grabbing a red ring for a slight speed boost without concern for self preservation is both clever thinking to gain a tactical advantage and totally in character for Metal.
As main of metal I will only say some tips: 1- It is not a good idea to use the boost to flee but it is better to attack, the metal boost does not give as much speed compared to the cream boost, therefore even if you use it the exe will still reach you and you will be more vulnerable by not having the available boost, not to mention sonic 1, even if you use it to run away the literal sonic until it surpasses you in speed, it's not worth it, use it to attack at least to go to the ring. 2-even if you are the sacrificial character, sometimes it is worth taking the exe where the others are, especially if you take it to a brawler like knuckles to give it a big stun. 3- Although I don't use self-destruction either, it is best to use it when there are several minions attacking the few remaining living allies, this way you keep the minions and the exe away. Keep in mind that I'm not a hater like others did, I only give advice based on how things have gone for me when playing with metal (and that it makes me a little angry to see how you waste the boost sometimes xd).
Tbh I play metal very aggressively, I target exe most of the round, and when I'm about to die I explode the second the exit opens to give my allies a chance to get out since exe is going to be flying away for a pretty long time

Sure, you could say that his moves bring exe closer to him, but if you use it on high ground it won’t bring him to you, he just slams against a wall or you could try use push to get him off but not fall off yourself, so you used the move in not the best way, if you used Shadow and used his homing ability where he flies up and hits exe, but you don’t actually hit so you’re just floating, it’s also using a move in a bad way, or you hover or jetpack right into Sonic, why is Metal a sacrifice but all the others aren’t? He might go after you instead, in fact, even creams healing gets him off the teammates and on to you, would exe rather attack someone over healed or someone on 35 HP? So by that logic every single move in the game is a sacrifice.

I think it's way more worthy to try and distract as much as I can instead of just going out the easy way, you can waste much more of EXEs time instead of self destructing, which 70% of time straight up misses and 1-10 seconds of advantage is not worth it if the exe is just skilled. Not mentioning 90% of metal players miss the self destruct or their explosion pushes the EXEs to your direction
