My dad used to know him real good cause he's from over here in Lebanon Ohio and were from Franklin right down the road a ways, I've talked to him a couple times myself, he's very very nice and humble.
Doyle is a master no doubt! I love his music! But Mano a Mano Larry can stand alone. He is the whole package by himself. Doyle is a master at running a tight band.
This song was written beautifully with purpose by Lawrence Allen Hammond. I don't like how it's being made fun of in attempts to lessen its value by modern thinking. Years ago it was a song people cried listening to. Now!!! Brilliant lyrics 💙
Huge fan of Larry Sparks. His music really speaks to me. I've heard him called the Ray Charles of Bluegrass. There's a reason for it. The man's got soul. God bless you Mr Sparks.
I use to cry every time I'd hear this song, I didn't know why. Then my baby Brother was found dead and it seamed like it all came to pieces 💔. I miss him so much, he always turned to me after our Mom passes away.
Love hearing Larry Sparks tell a story through a song. And how about that cat on the banjo? Some of the best banjo accompaniment I think I've ever heard.
Hey...a big thanks to you for doing such a great job covering a master....He really is that good and so are you. My face is breaking from the smile....
Billy Strings is doing this with a fan blowing his hair around and fake smoke in the background. I like Billy but his version doesn't take me to the same place Larry's version does. When I hear Larry sing this, I feel like the naïve country boy going to the city and getting his heart broken.
Dear mama, well, here's a letter from your girl Well, I think my city days are done, mom And it ain't been three weeks since I came And mama, do remember what you said Say your prayers before you go to bed, child And remember city boys ain't the same I'm like the John Deere tractor In a half acre field Tryin' to plow a furrow Where the soil is made of steel How I wish I was home, mom Where the blue grass is growin' And the sweet country boys don't complain And, mama, so much perfume I thought I'd drown And the Lord didn't seem to be nowhere around Hey, I felt just like a flower from the vine I'm like the John Deere tractor In a half acre field Tryin' to plow a furrow Where the soil is made of steel How I'd like to be home, mom Where the blue grass is growin' And the fire light shimmers and it shines I'm like a John Deere tractor In a half acre field Tryin' to plow a furrow Where the soil is made of steel How I wish I was home, mom Where the blue grass is growin' And the sweet country boys
Billy Strings brought me here. I'm from Portugal and very much appreciate this kind of music.
Billy String's story of his dad's guitar brought me here. So glad I checked this out.

Yep
Me too!

No one can top Larry Sparks on this one. He wrote this from the heart of a true country boy. Just love him.
He did not write this song.
That is right ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Larry sparks is the most underrated bluegrass master out there! This man now has the mantle of the " The greatest living bluegrass musician "
My band Homegrown Grass met him in Parsons WV he would have talked all night to us! Very genuine person, LEGEND!
Totally agree with this. Hes the last true great alive really.
My dad used to know him real good cause he's from over here in Lebanon Ohio and were from Franklin right down the road a ways, I've talked to him a couple times myself, he's very very nice and humble.
I love Larry but I didn't know Doyle Lawson had died
Doyle is a master no doubt! I love his music! But Mano a Mano Larry can stand alone. He is the whole package by himself. Doyle is a master at running a tight band.
Simply perfect. Bluegrass doesn't get any better than this.
Huge fan of Larry Sparks! Always looked so sharp and so professional. Wonderful gentleman, bluegrass singer!
This song was written beautifully with purpose by Lawrence Allen Hammond. I don't like how it's being made fun of in attempts to lessen its value by modern thinking. Years ago it was a song people cried listening to. Now!!! Brilliant lyrics 💙
In my opinion Larry is simply the best.
This is as good as Bluegrass gets. And the best banjo accompaniment of a song I've ever heard.
This is as good as it gets.
Luv Larry Sparks. Saw him at Meadowgreen in Clay City, KY!!!!

Love hearing Larry Sparks tell a story through a song. And how about that cat on the banjo? Some of the best banjo accompaniment I think I've ever heard.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one; gotta get this one...banjo player is a good-un, appreciate his pickin'!
It's like you sapped all semblance of soul out of his performance....so much perfume I thought I'd drown...
Who was the Godless feckless hell bound heather that gave this a "thumbs down"? Unto the Lord this is as good as it gets.

Wonderful
Here it is 2016 -- and the union sound techs still can't catch a guitar solo.
I think Larry should hire this band 🤣
So he didn't play it in drop D?
GO ON LIKE IT IS
BETTY SUE WAS MY BEAT FRIEND ,GROWING UP !!
the male to female equivalent of being called a country boy ... is when a "sweet country girl" is called old fashioned.
🤩
Sparks is the best ever bn
And the Lord didn't seem to be nowhere around
That's what it looked like when d and v had their own faces melted off
Dear mama, well, here's a letter from your girl

And mama, do remember what you said

Way to go tim you screwed the song up
Anyone but Sparks doing this song is an insult to the industry.
The truth
best version of the song. Larrys age makes the song stick
Sooooooooooooooooo much better than The Judds!
They got it from him, but they did not have enough soul to do it properly.
Is it me, or is Larry annoyed as hell at the starstruck vocalist guy?
It's just you
