- Virtual Sips & Science - Creating Community in a Socially Distant World
July 23
How do you create a sense of community and closeness when your get-togethers are virtual? When all of our cues for closeness are getting scrambled, we need to learn new ways to create community, show empathy and help others feel a sense of belonging.
In this humorous, interactive session with Andy Eninger, Founder of Fairplay Communications, he breaks down the interpersonal discomfort we are all feeling and gives us a roadmap for new practices (and old ones, too) that can help you close the gap and become a community builder once again.

This video needs to be updated since we are past the "social distant world". Although, the "Zoom Happy Hour" that we formed of nine shipmates from 1998 is still meeting every other week. And re-connecting has been so worth it.
Thanks for the tip. Staying connected is so important! We are working on fresh content to match current needs and interests. Some of our most recent videos are from popular series BrainHealth Presents. Registration is free, and registrants receive access to full recordings: centerforbrainhealth.org/events/brainhealth-presents
This video had a lot of information. I felt like he went on too long, and had some of the problems that he mentioned in the beginning about zoom meetings. However, he had some really good ideas. I guess the one I like best is to think of the other person first ” what do you need? How can I help you get what you need?”
Thank you for your feedback! We agree that concise is better, and are working toward shorter ways to share great ideas. Practicing compassion is a powerful tool. Acts of kindness have been shown to lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, helping to enhance your own perspective and well-being.
I think the time of social distancing is a bit in the past but this wasn't bad and if he has modified this presentation for decreased isolation needs that would be great.
Thank you for your feedback! We agree and are also happy that the time for that level of caution has passed. You might be interested in our current lineup of BrainHealth Presents talks with current approaches to better brain health: centerforbrainhealth.org/events/brainhealth-presents

No one needed to wear a mask on zoom. No one really needed to wear masks outside at the dog park. The average mask people made or eventually got, protected against virus. Many of us in the WAH community have had Zoom or Teams or webinars for a long time.
