Commitment to Internationalization Lecture Series: Bernie Burrola

Started in 2016, our Commitment to Internationalization Lecture Series features experts in the field of international education. These experts help to foster ongoing, campus-wide conversations about the UI’s vision and strategic themes for campus internationalization. Topics are intended to have broad interest among faculty, administrators, and students.
Today the world is more interconnected than ever before, yet in spite of this, a growing movement toward nationalism is gaining ground in many areas of the world. This lecture explored how we got here and why the world needs greater engagement/integration and not less. The lecture made the case for increased international education, research collaboration, and skilled immigration to keep America competitive in the global economy and to tackle global grand challenges.
