@@MichellesSanctuary That's a great question (especially with the holidays coming up!). I loved the incadescent coloured light bulbs hanging on house's eaves, the christmas bulbs that all played the same melody, watching the Peanuts on tv, present wrapped in non-aesthetic paper, pyjamas with 80's cartoons on them (also, watching the Saturday morning cartoons), Christmas shopping in decorated malls, the smell of my Mom baking, the anticipation of opening gifts, being able to stay up late, being carried to your bed by a parent after falling asleep during a party of watching a late night movie. 🥰
Right? I am 10 years older than you but the ‘80s were awesome for all the reasons ppl mention here. I had just graduated community college for 2 years. I then got my dream job. They paid to send me to school to get my Bachelor’s degree. All everything going my way. I was happily married. I worked full time, we had a house, and I went to University full time. I rewarded myself, (for getting my job and had gotten the associate degree) with a brand new mustang GT. I LOVED that car!
I'm so glad we could go back-- it feels light remembering those times. More fun, more exciting to see all that was unfolding. So glad I have a chance to recreate and remember that energy. ✨
Oh the 80’s was such a special time! Thank you for this! I was in grade 5 here in Australia. Love 80’s music still to this day and there were so many good movies! I especially loved the fantasy ones like The Labyrinth, The Neverending Story, The Goonies and The Dark Crystal 🥰 Oh and things like Indiana Jones!!
Such great movies, music-- and TV. Back when we all would look forward to a special episode or the return of a show. I hope you enjoyed this and it brought back the best memories!

Oh my gosh, I am very excited for this one! I've had such intense anxiety lately and your stories have been getting me through it as well as helping me enjoy the cozy fall season
I recall everyone "Walking like Egyptians" back then, influenced by MTV. Also recall bands like Tesla, Cinderella, IN-XS, and country singers George Strait, and Randy Travis ("Nobody in His Right Mind Would've Left Her," and "Forever And Ever, Amen").
I have an hilarious video of my extended family walking like an Egyptian at a New Year's celebration at our home in Johannesburg South Africa. Remember those massive home video cameras? My dad was filming the party on VHS and we were trying to make a continuous line of us walking like Egyptians through our lounge, everyone from the smallest toddler to the oldest granny. To try keep the train passing the camera in a continuous line, meant that when you passed through the lounge and were out of range of the camera, you would tear off out the one entrance, round a sharp corner into the kitchen (jump over the sleeping Labrador) gallop through the dining room to burst through the other lounge entrance and join the back of the line, just in time to, breathless and sweaty, create the illusion that the line continued infinitely. Such fun!
Here, listening. How could I not? 80s are my favorite time of life. Sitcoms, shopping malls, going to the movies and my Walkman. Thank you for this visit to a great time in the past. 🤍
I remember Dirty Dancing came out that summer. That sound track was amazing. Guns N Roses , Sweet Child of mine was blasting on the radio. Lost Boys was my favorite so called Scary movie. George Michael's " Faith" , T'Pau's " Heart and soul ", Whitney Houston's " Didn't we almost have it all" ( which will always be my favorite) Prince, Def Leppard's Histeria was so huge that year and so many others comes to mind. Hay rides, spook houses, candied and caramel apples, raking and burning leaves, bonfires and smores, carving pumpkins and rolling yards with toilet paper, Dancing around the fire to music with family and friends are all my memories from Autumn 🍂.
For your next story. I loved everything ‘80’s. The guys with their long usually curly. I still love all the music from then. I like rock so that is my favorite, but the pop songs were excellent too. I loved buying myself a muscle car (mustang gt) everything was going so great and peaceful with the country. People were loving each other instead of hating each other. Such bliss in every way. Peace.
You're so right-- I mean I often think about how much I loved Family Ties-- it handled differing opinions in a loving accepting way. And I truly hope we get back to aspects of that-- life felt lighter.
Wow, you have captured this point in time so perfectly! This was a story I had to listen to more than once: first, to marvel at the detail, and second, to attempt sleep. Thank you so much, Michelle!
Haha-- but some of them were so comfortable! Leggings and my mom's teal and black striped shirt that I wore with a belt as a dress was definitely a favourite. But the hairstyles were a disaster and the clouds of hairspray that came with them!

I’m going to be a witch too! Thank you so much for your kind donation. It’s such a fun holiday. I haven’t decided where I am going just yet but love handing out candy.
I miss being hopeful which I was in the 80’s. The Soviet Union broke apart and briefly embraced democracy. The Berlin Wall came down, people seemed to be evolving into a bright future. The music was hardly comparable to the late 60’s but fusion was still somewhat going. If I had known better I would have bought up tons of stock after black Monday as the market rebounded nicely but I was too skittish. I had a huge gas burning caddy a bunch of friends and a big family. The only thing I regretted was the way the aids epidemic was handled. We continued to evolve into the 90’s and forward until post Obama when our whole ideology flip flopped into chaos and stupidity. In my lifetime I haven’t seen such Moronity. As a species a civilization and a free based culture we sure are driving over a cliff. The old days are a memory that wasn’t just more innocent but more humane kinder and open to the concept of brotherhood and equality even if we were clumsy and awkward about it. Even Halloween is weird kids don’t say trick or treat or happy Halloween they just stand there with their bags open and don’t even say thanks. I want more magic more hope more more. I cry for the world how we have embraced the ugly the anger the hatred the fear and forgotten the things we learned growing up that set us above the trivial and into the mystical. The things we love are sacred they are treasures they make us better they make us compassionate empathetic and frankly divine. So happy Halloween may you all feel like it’s 1987 my father passed away on mischief night the day before Halloween so it’s been a little sad for me each year since. ❤
@@larrymarcus3176 I'm sorry on behalf of every human, every living being on this planet, for the hardship-- namely the unavoidable hardship-- that seems so prevalent. But one of the most challenging thoughts my brain started to occupy in my 20s was the idea that progress is not linear. How can it not be? I thought that was the excuse given in every exhaustingly redundant US history class I ever sat through as I was told, "we learn from our history." Right now, I think we learn from the children. We learn from healers, we learn from those willing to imagine better and beyond what we keep getting told isn't possible. Kids have a much better sense of decorum and understanding when you have a heart to heart with them. Even if the kids in your area don't say trick-or-treat-- although I implore you take advantage of the time and just ask them any question you want to have better engagement. I always have a blast interviewing them like they are on the red carpet or about to change the world. But while we can't immediately eradicate all the problems and wave a wand to bring together this fissure that is constantly fanned by opportunists who profit from division-- while progress can't just be the glorious rising diagonal line shooting upward like a bull market and taking us all into a safe, loving, abundant life that is absolutely possible and within reach-- we can at the very least keep that flame of hope within. It's not easy. But my takeaway from your words is that I also should maybe be more brave when the market dives seeing twice now I've done nothing.
