Do you recall the diminsions of the basswood board you used, the compass radius setting, and the dimensions of the finished cross?
I am interested I making this, it is beautiful

I am afraid I didn't write any of this down. I will give you approximations... total height 12"-14", width 9"-10". The center ring diameter approx. 5", then the Triangle shape curves are much bigger, I am guessing 8" diameter. One thing that I would change is the length of the lower arm, in my opinion it looks too short compared to the side and top arms. The thickness of the board was 1". The wood I used was Basswood.
I recommend drawing it all out on paper or using a computer program if so inclined. Work out the details on paper and then transfer it on to the wood. Best of luck with the project.

Thank You. I used basswood on this cross. Basswood is light, yet strong, it has tight, straight grain and is very easy to carve. I believe in Europe they call it limewood.

Was the big chisel made from a spade drill bit?

Yes, I have used spade bits for a few chisels over the years. The tricky part is to find spade bits without a hole in them. Mine here of course has a hole, which will shorten the life of the chisel once my sharpening reveals the hole along the edge. Sorry for the delayed response.

Is there a pattern for this cross. Beautiful cross.

Rick Buchanan - I made the design myself. My only regret is that the lower arm is not longer. If I make another with this design I will lengthen the bottom arm about 2 inches.
