It's hard to explain, we've been fighting wars on the continent for hundreds of years, and we don't do that anymore. Now football matches are our "wars". Between countries, cities and clubs.
lol. in europe basketball is nothing. only serb and greek fans in there. even %70 of europe does not has a basket league. and who cares basket. ultras stands for only football.
It´s really not easy to explain. First of all european Football Clubs are real Clubs, not franchises. They have a long tradition and always stand for a town, a city, or ideology. Examples are Glasgow Rangers (Protestants) and Celtic Glasgow (Catholics), or Partizan Belgrade (Army and "communism") and Red Star Belgrade (Police and "Anti-communistic"), or Austria Vienna (academic) and Rapid Vienna (Workers class). And these are conflicts and struggles are serious and lasting for many decades - and sometimes for over 100 years. And maybe the most important thing is that this does not change. So it is absolutely UNTHINKABLE to relocate a club to another city, or even to another part of the city. If your team is not playing good you rather follow them in the lower leagfues than giving them up and become a fan of another team. And: please forgive me my bad english.
Red Star Belgrade (Police and "Anti-communistic" Dude are you sure.Ach was.Verstehst mich doch oder ; ) Hast da ein nen Twist drin Oder liege ich falsch.

Not really, no. There are, for example, also nazi football hooligans who want nothing to do with ultras of any kind. It‘s really more about pyrotechnics and displays of support for the team with ultras, whereas for some types of hooligans (say, the British „firms“ of the late 1970s and 1980s), it‘s only about exercising wanton violence against people who are in some respect perceived as being different.
I really have to disagree on that - lot's of Hooligans don't even show up in the arena, nearly none of them are wearing the colours of the club whilst Ultras show the colours on any occasion.
Correct me if I'm wrong. In the USA, if you like your team, you support it, so you're a supporter. You go there, maybe watch the whole game, eat something, drink something, sit in your seat and enjoy the situation. In Europe, there are supporters too, and they do the same thing as supporters in America. But in Europe, there are also fans, and the word fan is an abbreviation for fanatics, who also eat and drink, they also enjoy the game, just much more intensely and go much further for the club. Unfortunately, that can't be explained, you have to experience it, that's how you grow up. It's often something that goes back generations, it has to do with where you come from, where your roots are, your district, your city. It has a lot to do with old rivalries, with pride, with identity. Some rivalries are older than football, some of them go back to wars in the Middle Ages. A normal "fan" experiences the game in two parts, the first and second half. For an ultra/hooligan there is also the third half, where it doesn't matter whether your team won or lost, then it goes on as I described before. And a quick word on the police thing: you need two groups for a fight, period, and if the police stand between the two groups then that is just one hurdle that has to be overcome in order to reach the actual goal. Basically nobody hits the police as long as they are on the sidelines or far away from the action.
The whole thing is a bit more complex. First, ultras are not the same as hooligans and mass fight scenes have become very, very rare, at least in northern, western and southern Europe. Ultras are actually responsible for show and spectacle and club politics, while hooligans are more of a fight club. The vast majority of fans are staunchly opposed to such riots, so they usually hold their battles away on fields and bystanders are very rarely involved. Should you let them do that? I mean, there's also the Isle of Men and Mount Everest isn't closed either and there's definitely a lot more injuries and deaths there.
"this sopposed to be nice, friendly football game, right?" :D - every city in Europe on every Sunday be like: "naaah man" And Americans thing Eagles fans are crazy :D In Europe is a tribal thing, culture legacy. Many cities and countries has issues for centuries with each other

Ultras are the super fans of the the team. They travel with them wherever they go to support them. They arrange the banners, flares, etc. You have to realise that in Europe, football's been played for over a hundred years and the rivalry between teams and cities goes back to medieval times when there were city states fighting one another. Old rivalries die hard. It's not just Europe, South American Ultras are crazy too, as are the Turkish and Moroccan Ultras. I would love to see you react to Ultra chants, preferably one that has English translation, also you might want to check out rudest English football chants. They are hilarious.

Cities countries and cultures have been fighting with deep bloodshed and hatred in the roots. Im from a city called Portsmouth we have a reputation for being a rough city with an island mentality and a really militarised yet equally self policing city. To hate a city called s**hampton is built into the culture of it. Its not sports team rivalry its actual city hating city rivalry. Similar across Europe. Cities have thousands of years of fighting and waring killing and pillaging others. The PAOK display of the ring of fire is an intimidation display. Its there to make the opposition nervous
You also need to check out USA vs European Basketball Fans! Again you'll see the massive difference between the two sides, which is something a lot of NBA players have spoken about!
People can become crazy cause here the club and the city it's in are tight together so if you're a psg fan like me, you probably live in paris and you grew up hating on the olympique de marseille, our rival team. And vice versa. So ultras from each team really hate the other.
Full point to support ur team as hard as possible is to make home advantage. If ur team is playng home game and u make hellish atmosphere at stadium it will afekt rival team so they can make mistake and wont stay focused on game. Ofc some people are crosing the line and go overboard but scream noise shauting and firesmoke are ok i gues
9:50. Your question. Why? Do not forget that it has nothing to do with 'superfans'. It is a minority that invades fields, damages stadiums, shoot rockets to other people. Depending on the situation and the how and why more or less people support the actions of the front guys.
the ultra scene in Europe is the coolest in the world. my club is HANSA ROSTOCK / GERMANY. In Germany the best ultras are: DYNAMO DRESDEN, EINTRACHT FRANKFURT, HANSA ROSTOCK, BORUSSIA DORTMUND, SCHALKE 04, MAGDEBURG & 1.FC KÖLN. American football can't keep up, to put it nicely 😉😏
I personally hate it when the voilence happens outside the stadium. Cus it punishes the whole. But i also dont like how the federations and goverments in european football are trying to kill this supporter culture that i love. the atmosphere cant be described. The flares, smoke and chants envelope the stadium in a way that u have to experience. When i walk into the stadium and i start hearing the drum beat even after all these years of going to all home games for my team it is emotional. I don’t ever want this culture gone.
Often fans express protests against some laws, for example, and the police try to suppress these protests, so clashes between fans and the police occur. Often clashes against restrictions on the freedoms of fans. For example, when these fans are forced to identify themselves, and then they are not personally allowed into the stadiums. This really annoys the fans and they can express protests that the police try to suppress.
Who ever made this video you reacted to isn't a football fan. Not even an Ultra, who are the super fans. He endorses violence more than support. He picked the most extreme clips, some being quite old and many being from eastern Europe. Normally you don't have to be afraid to attend a football game in e.g. in Germany. Even though the support, the passion and energy are really intense and there is nothing to compare with in the USA.
Brother Ive only just seen this and there is a rule, if a mans down you dont hit. Hes out of the game. its a code. Anyone who crosses that line gets dealt with internally but the fans from his side. A fight is a fight until a mans down

Basketball too
Well ultras often steal scarfs of enemy team to burn them, its sort of humiliation.
Legia Warsaw and Lech Poznan - Polish team
We do this for basketball also u should check euroleague or Greek basket league 😂

It's just a running mosh pit
now i love you on the platonic way
Who ever made this video you reacted to isn't a football fan.
This is all Europe
Thanks... Carpathian Brigade!
Brother Ive only just seen this and there is a rule, if a mans down you dont hit. Hes out of the game. its a code. Anyone who crosses that line gets dealt with internally but the fans from his side. A fight is a fight until a mans down
