The Hawks kept their core and most of their players in general, but the thing that brought us down was that though we didn’t really lose anyone integral to our success (except cam😥) we didn’t do anything to improve, like most other teams did
Yea I was surprised with no moves at all after the GM was on radio talking about how the roster needed an upgrade and all that stuff. I figured they’d move Gallo’s expiring (5M gtd in 22-23 but basically expiring) and a pick or two for an upgrade of some sort. Maybe they’ll still use that Gallo contract and picks, though their own 1st isn’t as attractive as it looked like it was gonna be when it seemed like they were gonna be in the lotto. They do have all their own future 1sts tho and that CHA pick, which isn’t great but it’s something. Just wonder if they’re gonna be willing to pay the tax. Assuming Trae makes All-NBA he’s gonna get a bump in salary. Their only real way (or one of main ways) to make a nice upgrade is to to pick up Gallo’s contract instead of waiving him for 5M and using him as salary filler as a 21.45M expiring. If they do that they’ll def be in the tax so we’ll see. They could move Capela or Collins but they’ve had injury issues. Could move Bogdan or Huerter I guess too. Feels like they have to make some kinda big trade this summer.
Imagine clique sitting down in the office making calls and being like "oh what if I give you this guy, these picks, oh no you don't like it well how about more picks and this guy now"
I feel like the broadcast camera makes the game play more realistic in the way that more clutch shots are made and there is a better chance for a buzzer beater. It makes the gameplay very entertaining.
As a hawks fan, John collins missing a good chunk of the year, the east as a whole doing better, lax defense (due to some big men injuries), Clint Capela not playing in the playoffs, and ngl the cam reddish trade, the year wasn’t a good one. I don’t think people outside of hawks fans realize how much John collins, Cam reddish, and Clint capela really did for us on the floor last year. Their ability to create space with their shooting or screens was vital last year, not to mention collins and capela on defense. (Reminder that john collins was on a minutes restriction this year). I love our team and I think we’re better that we showed this year. But I think the conference finals was pushing it last year, plus Trae, even having a great season like he did can’t be expected to do everything. Plus, I don’t want to be whiny and say the refs screwed us over, because the heat are a very good team. But Lowry for sure got away with some dirty stuff the first three games, and after that it was just in Trae’s head and here we are.
John Collins has been excellent for you guys. He’s always been willing to play whatever role is needed. He complained about it once or twice but he always sacrificed shots, got better on D, etc. for the betterment of the team. That injury sucks and it’s scary going forward. Plantar fascia tears can be bad and be a longterm reoccurring thing. Let’s hope since he did play a bit in playoffs (albeit not close to 100% obv) that by next season he’ll be 100% and he won’t have that issue. Capela also super important but I didn’t agree with the extension at the time. He was already under contract for next year and I just didn’t see the reason for it. He’s been battling with knee stuff (Achilles soreness and all that) for a while. I would’ve rather just let him play the season out and figure out an extension the next season. I’m never a fan of paying big guys a buncha money before you have to especially ones who aren’t super young and have had some injury issues. I do think the Reddish trade was necessary tho. Seems like he didn’t wanna be there, he wasn’t getting much opportunity, and they obviously didn’t want to pay him. This team is gonna get real expensive starting 22-23 especially bc Trae is prolly All-NBA so he’s gonna be making 30% of the salary cap with 8% raises instead of 25%. I think that’s like 5/175 (35/yr) vs like 5/212 (~42.4/yr) so they really couldn’t pay Reddish and Hunter, and Hunter was the obvious choice. I just wonder what moves they can make this off-season. I was expecting at least one decent sized deadline move but it didn’t happen. Their pick isn’t as attractive now as it was at that point when it looked like they’d be in the lottery, but they still have pick 16, all their own future 1sts, and that CHA pick. The thing is will they be willing to pay the tax. Because they can just waive Gallo for $5M instead of his $21.24M or whatever it is (could even waive and stretch it for 1.67/yr) and duck the tax, or they can pick up his non gtd deal and use it as a big expiring deal in a trade. They don’t have any big expirings beside Gallo so that’d be important if they want to make a big move. I mean there’s Bogdan but he’s got 2yrs left. Just not sure what direction they wanna go. Maybe like a Jerami Grant or something I dunno, they def could use another big wing defender and those are hard to find. Grant is a solid enough C&S 3P shooter and playing w Trae he’d get more open looks. Just not sure how that’d work with Collins. I guess they could play him and Collins at 4/5 some, Hunter/Grant/Capela some, and maybe even some crazy big lineups with Grant at 3. It seems like they need Capela (or some kinda lob threat) but it’d also be ideal if Collins could be the full time 5. Just not sure how feasible that is. Maybe Hunter/Grant/Collins would work Idk. Then they also need someone who can run the offense and not have it fall off a cliff when Trae is out. I like Delon Wright and think he was prolly a bit under utilized but he’s prolly not a longterm answer, though if they can re-sign him for fairly cheap (like 8M/yr?) they should. I thought Derrick White might’ve been a good fit, but he’s not rly a good enough 3P shooter. If White was like even 37% on 4-5 3PA he would’ve been perfect. So ya really long post. Very interesting situation for ATL. They definitely need some serious roster changes. Should be fascinating to see what they do this off-season. Not sure drafting at 16 really does them much good. Jalen Johnson doesn’t even get on the court. It’s prolly time to cash in some picks for a trade.
ill tell you why they finished the 9th seed. it was even said in their post game interviews… coming off their ecf run last season , they really came into this past season thinking they could show up and win games. they relaxed. they didn’t have that same competitive edge. on top of that , the covid stretch hurt them a lot and injuries… but the main thing they came in thinking it was gonna be a cake walk back to the playoffs. a lot of teams got better and they didn’t come in ready to fight. this year is a learning year for the team and there’s no doubt there gonna come back on a mission next season
Ayyyy thanks for posting after 3pm ET lol I didn't get detenion for watching this. Also love the playoffs because you drop so much content that's really entertaining
As a hawks fan obviously are defense was much worse but if we didn’t have injuries we would have at least like 48-50 wins, we started the season 17-25 because we had literal g leaguers starting, every day we were signing somebody new on a 10 day contract, basically it was just Trae young carrying. However as soon as we got healthy we finished 26-14
Honestly one of my all time favourite videos from you Clique. Would love to see if you could finish Jabari Smith Jr's career on this sim and make him the goat. God bless to you man!
Hey, beautiful bastard! I think it's about time to make a *Gilbert "Agent Zero" Arenas* career sim. But 99 shot tendency and potential and 0 injury tendencies.
I just came from the Nets vid and damn lol this vid was just so much smoother maybe it’s because the picks and what not but you kept the core and won. Also that Klay comeback story was crazy from not playing to clamping up Steph in the finals. 😂
You should do a superstar mashup video where you pair up a bunch of the best players in the league and then create a single player out of them using the better of the two stats from them for all of the attributes. Bonus points for powering through the dyslexia to give them mashed up names too like Stephannis Curkounmpo, LeVin Durames, Lukian Lillcic, Devikola Bookic, Kludy Thombert
Honestly last year's finals run was a fluke, that was the season where the seedings were heavily affected by COVID and yeah they beat a fluke Knicks team and a Sixers team where Ben Simmons imploded. They out performed last year based on the talent they had.
Before I say why I think the Hawks didn’t make a push in the playoffs this year I am a huge Hawks fan. To put my fandom in perspective I have a Zaza Pachulia Hawk’s jersey. The Hawks were not as successful this year because we were tired from our push last year, our main role players are young with no consistency developed, Cam Reddish was a problem in our locker room making it difficult to gel in the beginning of the season, injuries/Covid plagued us at the worst possible times, Collins didn’t play like the number 2 option on our team even with his contract, Bogi was too injured/inconsistent, Capela can’t make a shot, Young didn’t make key possessions count during the Miami series, and the refs give us NO love. I hate we didn’t make the second round this year, but at least we didn’t get swept and we are still young in our rebuild
idk bout no love (at least during the regular season) because you do have trae, but yall have a bright future if yall are able to fix some roster problems
