  • As the UNSC fails to reach an agreement on how to respond to the conflict in Syria, we examine the prospects for reform. Why are calls for reform ibeing gnored? What is the future of the Security Council? And what would a complete reform of the UN system mean for the rest of the world? Inside Story, with presenter James Bays, discusses with guests: Geir O. Pedersen, the Norwegian ambassador to the UN; Regina Dunlop, the Brazilian deputy ambassador to the UN; and Masood Khan, the Pakistani ambassador to the UN.

I think the veto power should not apply to issues such as genocide, human rights abuses, war crimes

Stop talking about it. REVAMP the UN.
And include actual representation of humanity by real citizen representation not just Government representation.

Since world war two the saint Germaine steadied ban biochemical warfare because it is inhumane. The problem is we need expert consulting and real life fact on GMO, fertilizer from china, and pesticides use in agriculture.

Only one country is typically considered a superpower today, the others are considered great powers. The world is not in the same war-state mentality today as it was and I don't believe that the citizens of the largest countries would allow their leaders to run rampant if they weren't able not to do anything productive in the Security Council or produce the lowest common denominator. Besides, the superpower that I mentioned feels only bound by its own will and not be the SC nor its citizens.

I do not believe that they would go on the ground instead if they weren't able to do nothing meaningful in the Security Council. Most countries are ruled indirectly be the influence of the rich, the business elite, and those people also benefit from stability and peace. It’s not like the past when countries were ruled by a single person or a single isolated family with absolute power and mostly unaffected by wars.

Isn't Germany slightly more powerful than France for example? The masters were chosen rather arbitrarily.

As far as UN troop for peace keeping should keep in a preset quota of material and personel contribution for each nation according to population and minimum GDP and private contribution on philanthropy idea to be fair. For those against the UN is just like enemy of humanity and civilization.

Peace and security confirmation is everyone's choice when all people live in one true way but if the situation is to be divided into a group or a part of the group they should always make their own plan for example a taxi or a taxi does not come or work is a trick to life and the state and the environment, but if there is an issue, it is clear that people are the same people who live in the same category for example, Ethiopia, Ethiopia, and Somalia, who live in one community to find out where the lies come from, every nation must work each night and every citizen knows about the true people and the false men and women to reduce violations of human rights in different sectors of society eg a person wants to pay a hundred dollars while ill ill to show a health agency that he wants to say to those people we are treating him and becoming a daily life
