Last year I was in the hospital for a month right before Christmas... and that taught us an important lesson :) So... pass the ornaments and let's soak it up while we can :) We also discussed the importance of a caretaker taking time for self care! If you are a caretaker, I would love to hear what you do to make sure you take some time for yourself! And for all of you caretakers out there, we are cheering for YOU!
I try to take care of myself now.I am 47 years old. I have 5 children and my youngest is 16. I pray that God will provide time, financial, health for us.It is time for us to actually enjoy our time together. We did the best we can to raise 5 children. We had a lot of ups and down. Been married 25 years and been together 26 years. My children are 27,24,21,20,16 years old.
The Frey Life - my husband is my caregiver and I’m so lucky because he is my number one ☝️ fan! But in return I’m his number one ☝️ fan! He is an amazingly patient person with all my health drama and is always so kind and caring. His way of taking some time for himself is: going out to have dessert and just bs with his group buddies at the local restaurant, going to car cruises, getting a massage and working in the garage especially on his race car.
I’m a caregiver to myself as well :) I have a question about the Ollie birthday bundle: Is it available after the month of December or just for Ollie’s birthday month? I’m saving up my allowance :) thank you! I hope someone knows because I’d love to buy it! :)
I feel like what you are thankful for doesn't have to be big or super meaningful for it to matter. When I was suicidal between the ages of 13 and 17, living in an abusive home and feeling lost, the thoughts that I used to keep going were "if I die now, I won't get to see the next new episode of my favorite show. I won't be able to read a new book. I won't be able to listen to new music by my favorite artists. I won't get to watch snow fall or listen to it rain." Tiny things keep you going as much as big things.
I spent a month, in 2009, in the hospital. While watching you, I realized that it was Dec. 9th when I was rushed to the hospital and into surgery within 2 hrs. I was there for 4 weeks and only went home because they don't keep a patient past 28 days if they can be maintained at home with a home health nurse (due to the potential for hospital caused infections). When you said it was going to be a month, I burst into tears for you. It actually wasn't hard for me to be there. I nearly died and appreciated all these people who were literally saving my life, but I was away from my family - especially my son. I spent my time walking the hallways, drinking lots of water and going back into surgery a couple of times a week. I was actually kind of sad to go home - I wasn't well enough to do housework and the place was a mess (long illness, no help). Today just thinking about you with your happy home, husband and super poodle brought me to tears - actually of joy - because you have such a wonderful support system surrounding you. I know that you know this and appreciate what you have. Just know that Peter and Oliver are true treasures (actually, so are you). You'll be in my thoughts.
Being in hospital around Christmas time sucks. I was really lucky in 2013 I was discharged on the 24th so I could be home for Christmas Day. On the days leading up to it the staff at the hospital where amazing especially a nurse called Karen. I was 17 but santa still came to see me and gave me a teddy that I named Karen. Hopefully if you are there that long again they will make it fun.
This might sound like a strange request but can Peter do a video or part of a video explaining what kind of family he grew up in and what his mom was like when he was a child, and what values she imparted in him and how? He appears to be SUCH an exceptional man, and it seems he must come from a family with kindness, compassion and much emotional intelligence. it would be cool for some background into how he got such emotional intelligence, compassion, patience and the courage to be an authentic person who meets life in the moment with courage as does Mary. I grew up in a pretty toxic home and am looking to change those family cycles. I love observing healthy people and relationships to see and wonder how it's done. Thank you and many blessings for your healing.. much hope and love always to you both! Xox
Loving Peter too! He and Judd and Paul (from Chronically Jacquie and The Raw Life are amazing men. (Granted we're only seeing the best of them.) But yeah, I wish I could have that love!
He's a man of God.. So is mine, we've been in faith for three years and we can definitely see the work that Lord has done for both of us! My man is just like Peter, not as social but definitely as loving as Peter is, kind and well mannered. And he came from a broken, drug infused childhood with violence and chancing stepdads who were not good models of a man. It's just in his characteristics, a loving mom and God in control definitely takes one far 💞
I love Oliver's little Christmas Jammies. He is too cute! I have been in so much pain as the temperature dropped and it snowed!!! SO I am enjoying my lunch and watching you guys. Have great day to everyone! xo
ME TOO! All my joints hurt so bad! It snowed here too! I took pills and pills and heated pillow for my back. Today I am feeling better and I laughed well at this video, so darn cute!
I'm so glad that you were strong enough for a date night and shopping for Christmas. It's really smart to embrace it NOW, before you go into the hospital. I hope you can have some Christmas decor in your hospital room. Have a nice weekend.
Thank you for the awesome closed captions on this video - they allowed me to watch this in a crowded hospital waiting room where I’d forgotten earbuds!
I just love little Ollie (so does my 9 year old son) so much! We dream one day to have an Ollie just for him as a diabetic alert dog. I am so glad you are enjoying your days the best you can before going to the hospital. We are thinking about you and have you in our night time prayers.
Loved watching this one! The other day my mom left her hair appointment early to come unplug me out of an IV when i told her to stay and have her hair done up. I had to let her know my heart = full having such an awesome mom but it is fuller when she can continue to enjoy the everyday little personal things amidst taking care of her daughter. Couldn't be any more relevant! Praying for you two as you embark on this hospital stay!
Embrace the moment! Excellent! The adorability factor of all three of you is at a 10! I love you and continue to pray for you. Love from Florida, Andie 💜
I hope you don't have to stay in the hospital too long this time. Last year I was in hospital on Christmas day, and it sucked. Some lovely people came carol singing though. I made a big effort to decorate my hospital room and play xmas music. This year I will be away on holiday (hopefully, if my health maintains) so have started my christmas early. Nothing beats blasting christmas tunes out in the car. Lots of love guys
We took our daughter, Grace, to Chicago for her sweet 16th bday (which is actually TODAY!!) but we took her in October so we didnt freeze to death (we're from Florida) and we went to the museum and LOVED the "Miniature Room" area!! So cool, this should be a part of that exhibit! :) You two are so creative and really are better together!
I love the tiny room idea! But I think it needs a window! Maybe you could use a little picture frame and print out winter scenes to put in the frame?! 😃 (I totally want to make my own tiny room now)
Oooh that tiny room is such a lovely idea. I love little mini rooms or dioramas as a advent calendar style decoration. that couch is adorable. wishing you the best for your upcoming hospital stay~
I'm so glad you got to enjoy a little bit of freedom! I was on a new medication today, which not only didn't do what it was supposed to but also made me so sick I had to leave work early AND couldn't run my errands. I'm glad you got to go to Target instead!
I’m laying in bed here with a lupus flare watching this and it makes me want to start getting my stuff out for Christmas! As soon as I’m up I’m going for it. Praying for you Mary!
I like your message about the importance of taking care of yourself, with one exception... I feel like no matter who you are, what job you have, or what people you're around, it is ALWAYS necessary to take care of yourself. I use an analogy that everyone has a cup of water. When you are taking care of others or helping someone (which could include at work or helping others) you are pouring your cup of water into someone else's cup. When you are taking time for yourself or doing self care then you are adding to your glass of water. You need to do what you can to never let your cup be empty. So in that sense, it is important for everyone to take care of themselves. :)
Hi folks, the detailing round the room walls are dado rails. They were used in large houses in years gone by to stop high back chairs from damaging walls/wallpaper.PS.hope all goes well with your stay in hospital.God Bless.
I'm having to go into hospital on the 30th November so I'm doing what Mary's doing , trying to get Christmas ready and I'm so pooped doing it. Hugs to you 3 xxxx
Peter being thankful for coffee is not superficial! 😀 I totally understand that bc I can't tell u how happy n relaxed a nice cup of pumpkin spiced latte/coffee makes me! 😁☕ And like my mother in law says to me, "it's the little things!" Sometimes especially when there's a lot of big things going on(health, bills, or w.e) small things like your favorite coffee or tv show really does keep you going so definitely not superficial! ☕☕☕
I love watching yalls videos. Y’all are so great together and y’all make me laugh. I love how happy you both seem to be even when things are hard. You’re such an inspiration
I'm glad you spoke a bit about caregiving and self care. In keeping a log I found that I get way off schedule (of MY personal care) when my hubby is off work. I can't do that to myself anymore. I have a chronic illness as does hubby. Sticking to a routine is part of my self care.
At our house on Thanksgiving, we go around the room and everyone says what they are thankful for....EXCEPT there are rules...You can not say "Family, job, health" etc...Those are a given and we acknowledge our thanks for those things....But it's the little things we want to be thankful for so there's an array of things from toilet paper to DVR's etc....It makes us laugh because we take so many things for granted like salt or forks that it's super fun to take a minute to acknowledge those things too...So, coffee would go over very well here! It's always fun when we have new guests because they always enjoy it!
I'm rooting for you guys, and praying for you. I suffered an adrenal crisis today and ended up having to go to the hospital for like 7 hours I had to get all kinds of meds that I don't really like that make me feel awful by IV. Hang in there guys.
Where did you get the pajamas for Ollie? So cute! Praying your hospital stay is short and sweet and for that bacteria to go away. Caretakers are awesome selfless people. My brother and my kiddos always help me out when I’m out for the count. Couldn’t make it without them and my trusty sd Magnus.
Hope you are not in hospital that long Mary. Peter make sure you look after yourself has well. Make sure they look after you both. I suffer from chronic pain in my left leg it's so frustrating but we will carry on with God's love. God bless both of you x
Love Oliver’s Pjs. Mary I will be praying that you won’t be in the hospital long. I so agree with you all. You have to soak up this time of year. I have already started putting out Christmas stuff. I am a huge peanuts fan. I keep adding stuff lol. There as been so much heartache out there that I think everyone needs a little Christmas now. 🎄🙏🏻
my husband takes care of me. When our daughter had a baby, she and her husband wanted family to come help and enjoy our new family member. That meant my husband had to travel....and I would be left alone for 2 weeks. I have never been left alone for that long. It meant frozen meals, medications in, people to check in on me.... and my knowing what little jobs I had to DO everyday. Such as animal care. Knowing how to manage taking the trash out for collection....and... wow was it tough! I had a bad flare, and spent several day in bed only getting up for animal care and microwaving. Thankfully, modern technology means lot of computer communication and phone calls. I was sad that I wasn't going to see the baby, but THEN I realized that this was my gift to the baby. Giving up my husband to go help out. He had a blast and bonded with our grandson, helped out his daughter and her husband, and even though I had a really HARD TIME, I just kept thinking "This is my gift." Also it made me appreciate him, things like laundry....OUCH. But he came home refreshed and ready for this job here. Taking care of a newborn was his "vacation"! But he loved it and can't wait to go back.
Awww - couldn't your daughter and her husband come to your house so you could all be together? Was it too much travel for such a tiny baby? Im hoping that as soon as your daughter and her husband are able to, they'll take the trip to come see you and let you bond with your grandbaby. Lucky baby to have such amazingly kind and loving grandparents. I grew up with an ill mother and therefore spent a lot of time at my grandparents house when my dad had to work his 2 full-time jobs. Im still, at 33, as bonded to my grandparents as I am to my parents. Being loved so much by the entire family is the greatest gift and best guarantee for a good adult life, a child can get.
Mary, I LOVE that grey sweater at the beginning of this video! :) It's especially great with the other grey T underneath, and the V-neck is really stylish! Love it! You should though, of course, show us your hospital fashion show again next week...... (?)
Oh my gosh!!! Ollie boy in his jammies! I am not sure you will get him out of them. LOL, You need to take them with you so he can sport them in the hospital. He will love you forever! He will also get a lot of attention. Sounds like he's got his "Better Hurry" down in those jam jams. I can't get over how cute he is!
You guys are the Best Ever you can see the Love radiating in both your eyes when you look at each other. Love You Guys So Much Love the Pup as Well Many Blessing XO
Peter you are amazing!! My ex (hence ex) could not handle my chronic illness and he walked away! I really applaud you and Mary for sharing your daily routine. I too have a lung disease and am constantly in and out of the doctors. Feel better Mary!!
The ornament with the beard is Yukon Cornelius from Rudolph! Remember you saw the Abominable SnowMonster? They followed that theme through the ornaments! I love it! 😍
I don't meant this in a creepy way at all, but I stopped the video at 9:39 and just stared at Mary in wonder. You are SO beautiful Mary! You shine God's light inside and out!
I have cystic fibrosis and i cant to anything such as my favourite sport but im having a lung transplant in 2 years i have a very bad fever at the moment...but im very happy and you cheer me up when i watch ur vlogs because i know im not the only one who has CF...
Last year I was in the hospital for a month right before Christmas... and that taught us an important lesson :) So... pass the ornaments and let's soak it up while we can :) We also discussed the importance of a caretaker taking time for self care! The Frey Life I'm a caregiver, to take care of myself I read a book, study, play with my cat, or just do my nails.

The Frey Life off duty pajamas hahhaha how cute Ollie boy is ...
I looked at that print that matched the pillow and thought you should change the words to “Have yourself a ‘Mary’ little Christmas”
I totally saw that pillow at Target and thought "I think Mary would like this sort of thing"... clearly I was right
I feel like what you are thankful for doesn't have to be big or super meaningful for it to matter. seoreh I agree!
Loving Peter too! He and Judd and Paul (from Chronically Jacquie and The Raw Life are amazing men. (Granted we're only seeing the best of them.) But yeah, I wish I could have that love!
Yes.... a little "speel" from both regarding your upbringing and a feature on your parents would be cool but mostly it would be honoring of them!
He's a man of God.. So is mine, we've been in faith for three years and we can definitely see the work that Lord has done for both of us! Ollie's so adorable in his pjs!!! ❤❤
I love the way you guys turn everything into a sweet memory or sweet moment
Good quote, Mary. "Don't ignore your own needs."
Embrace the moment! Excellent! The adorability factor of all three of you is at a 10! I love you and continue to pray for you. Love from Florida, Andie 💜
They are starting to sell doll house things at dollar tree, you should check it out

Can I just say I love you guys. I pray for you daily.
God Bless you MARY and Peter love following your journey

We took our daughter, Grace, to Chicago for her sweet 16th bday (which is actually TODAY!!) but we took her in October so we didnt freeze to death (we're from Florida) and we went to the museum and LOVED the "Miniature Room" area!! Ollie's little Christmas jammies are THE cutest thing I have ever seen!! 😄. Great Christmas haul! 💖

Oooh that tiny room is such a lovely idea. I love little mini rooms or dioramas as a advent calendar style decoration. that couch is adorable.

Omg mary your little house is so adorable love it. Peter mary is right you have to do things for your self too. Love all 3 of yall
I loved the Christmas explosion throughout today's video ☺️
Great Christmas Target haul. Christmas is my favorite holiday and I love buying new ornaments (bought Minnie and Mickey ball ornaments at Target).
My husband is my caretaker too. Would love a video from Peter about what its like and how to take care of yourself as one
Oliver needs a calendar & his outfit would be next December🎈
I saw your tweet about the Coffee maker and forgot! Thank you for having it in the video! I'm off to Target after your video ends!
Love you guys
I hope theres a small Olly to go in that little house 😁
Ollie likes to wear his coat indoors too! :D

Oh Ollie Boy, you bring such joy :-) Lovin' those jammies!
Those soup spoons are ridiculously deep.
Ollie, you are just too cute. Peter ornaments, who knew!
Glad you found your little furniture, too cute Mary.

Even though your body may not be, you head and heart is in the right place.
I love the tiny room so much 😍 tiny things are the best
Oh my gosh!!! Ollie boy in his jammies! I am not sure you will get him out of them. LOL, You need to take them with you so he can sport them in the hospital. He will love you forever! He will also get a lot of attention. Sounds like he's got his "Better Hurry" down in those jam jams. I can't get over how cute he is!
