The DS version was Japan exclusive, otherwise the game was just exclusive to the PS3. Recently they did a remaster/port of the game on PS4, Switch, and PC which came out a few days ago.

visually you can't compare DS to others. But feature-wise and gameplay, DS is still the best. Back then (before released), I just hoped (at least) the switch version would return the spell and gesture back - but it didn't.

After the DS version I honestly can't tell much difference Maybe a few textures are different between the Switch/PS4 and the colors look a little different on PC
@@GuyLogen There is much more than resolution difference. PS3 has worse textures. The grass for example look much better on remaster version. Watch the video at 4K or 1440p at full screen. The difference is so clear. You won't see the difference if you are watching at 360p with youtube horrible compression

Compare 3:13 with 3:18 images. Can you see how PS4 version blend together the Character with the Room itself very nicely? In the other hand, on the PC version, the Character seems highlighted from the room. That's why i prefer the PS4 version above all others. I think it is really artistic in a way i can comprehend.
I prefer the main consoles version because the higher graphics have the full Studio Ghibli's beauty on display but i'm still bummed we didn't have the DS version and it's wizard companion in the west
seriously though how did the switch version not bring back the option to draw the spells? they missed out on the opportunity to have people buy 2 versions at once with that and the smoother graphics from ps4 and onwards (ik it's just higher resolution, the lower resolutions still do it in a way that it looks like it was an artistic choice instead of just more powerful hardware)
on a side note, it's a shame they didn't use the localised names for the ds fan translation. i want to try a full playthrough with the different battle engine, but keeping track of names in both versions sounds like too much of a pain in the ass.

It's interesting that despite not having the "Remastered" moniker in it's title, the Switch version is clearly based on the PS4 remaster, and not the PS3 original. I guess because it isn't in 4K they chose not to call it that?
It's strictly accurate. It is the fact of seeing the comparison between the different versions that made me post this message spontaneously. But even if the original version on DS, which I did not play, must be of quality, force is to recognize that the graphic Ghibli paw of the other versions brings a real plus.

PC Remastered version have noticeably worse audio quality many SFXs and BGMs are in lower bit rate overall like UI sounds and Main Menu theme while on PS3 it sounds crystal clear and less compressed.

What I mean is that the DS had a native edge-AA feature that many games used (For some reason this is missing from many DS emulators). This combined with the image on its own small native res screen made the games actually look pretty decent especially given the DS's simpler graphics.

Modders had to do the dev team’s jobs for them and made the game look better!

I only played the DS version and it seems like not having the rune drawing mechanic would take away from the experience a bit. This feature was great because it made the world feel like it could all be manipulated with magic.
Censorship. Mostly because having a "bar" in a kids game is frowned upon (even if it isn't really a bar.) Nintendo just likes to be extra thorough with censorship to prevent a lawsuit from some upset parent.

While all of them look great, it does bum me out that the transition from pixelation to cel-shaded 3D made the colors more dulled out. I understand they had to make it pop out more for weaker hardware and the look of the console versions is probably what they always wanted to go for, but still.

You can use a PS3 Emulator called RPCS3, you can upscale the resolution, the graphics looks definitely better

Its one of my first game on ds. And its only japanese so I think almost everyone didnt know it exist.
Its one of my fave games in ds, someone translated and the book too. It was an amazing experience that i really recommend it💙

My lil bro and I loved it so much that we almost completed at 100%, but some puzzles were impossible for my 13 self 😂
So is there anything noteworthy on the Remastered Version? like extra content or something? because if its just resolution i'd feel better just buying the Switch Version

The best way yo play this game is on the DS with the book beside you. The other consoles are just crap. That's that.
While all of them look great, it does bum me out that the transition from pixelation to cel-shaded 3D made the colors more dulled out. I understand they had to make it pop out more for weaker hardware and the look of the console versions is probably what they always wanted to go for, but still.
