Loved it that your father and mother joined you and him a pastor, ye ken. I had my two daughters and a grown grand-daughter with me. If you do an ancestry test, don’t be surprised if Scots blood is in your veins. We may not be overjoyed about how it got there, but there it is.

King James VI of Scotland inherited the throne of England when Queen Elizabeth I died, he then became King James I of England and King James VI of Scotland and united the two thrones. The Unicorn is for Scotland and the Lion is for England. Holyrood Abbey was stripped during the reformation

I think you may have got given the wrong age on the whisky. It’ll likely be 12 years old because for us to legally be able to call it whisky then it has to be over 3 years old. I’ve lived here all my life and I didn’t learn that until I did an actual whisky tour. Glad you and your family enjoyed your time here.

@@DavionWest thank you my friend. so refreshing seeing your take on things and that’s me now subscribed. Also, your dad is right about the glass. In Edinburgh we have what’s called listed buildings and they have to be maintained and kept as historic as possible and that means that the glass windows and things like that can’t be updated and have to remain that way. Means the heating bill is a lot higher but keeps the historic look of the building.

Regarding the missing roof in Holyrood Abbey, and the ruined state of most of the Abbeys in the borders, it’s not only a result of their great age. Take a minute to research Henry VIII’s “Rough Wooing” of Scotland as he was attempting to unite the kingdoms. Fascinating history.
