Enjoyed the video. It is very interesting to see how cotton farming has changed. When I was a boy they were hand picking and using 1 row cotton pickers.
Dang boys, y'all are ahead of me! I just sprayed Sunday, but the Alabama Snow Storm is coming soon! Don't you just love bales instead of fooling with carts etc! Good luck the rest of the way, and stay safe!
Plan right now is to hopefully start cotton harvest Wednesday on our farm. We contract out our harvesting and our guy says he can’t get to us till then. Good vid.
So on a S680 combine I spend about $6-$10k going over it in a year. Are cotton pickers worse then a combine? As far as maintenance on Row units? Can you drive faster with the 690 pickers then older models?
5mph I’d probably allow close to 12 per machine here, row units are not the same every year, but every 2-3 years you have to spend a ton on doffer/ spindle replacing
I go by a lot of cotton fields that have been picked and there seems to be a lot of cotton still on the plants, why is that, doesn't that hurt your yield?
@@southernfarmer hope you guys are getting that, if not more!! First time seeing a cotton picker in action! Thanks for sharing! May God bless all farmers and their families.
Really enjoy these videos! Hard to imagine that at a time all cotton was picked by hand!!
Things have came a long ways for sure
Very good job? Nice machine. From Trikala Greece

Pontotoc
What yields does a typical dryland hill farmer budget for?
I know it’s different from region to region
Hope for 2 bale

Why do sum farmers wash the pickers heads instead of hand cleaning headers? Anyway awesome video and hope your harvest is 👍
Not real sure, personal preference I guess
I think some heads are easier to access than otbers
When a farmer turns into a hippie
Things are tough in Mississippi
Always are
Where do you gin your cotton
Double B Gin
Randolph, MS
So you have to keep your hand on the orange stick while you harvesting, yall must don't pick peanuts
You better keep it close on that hydro stat handle, just in case.
We do t have any peanuts
@@southernfarmer Oh ok I love farming I'm trying to start me a farm, Only peanuts and cotton
