I have peonys rare league card also in the newest episode of twilight wings opal has mustards rare league card on her desk in front of her she looks at it and says something but i can't remember what she says but i found it interesting that she knew mustard and the champion that was between leon and mustard could have been peony he is the only other person known to be a former champion bedsides mustard so you were right about that great theory video it was amazing 👌
To be fair, we need to remember that everything in the Pokemon games is drastically simplified so that children can beat the games.... in universe, getting the 3 Regis would probably be near impossible and a single mistake could make getting Regieleki impossible. Plus, most of Chairman Rose's calculations were correct... he was just rushing.... for reasons that made absolutely no sense.... like... none.... But hey, we got to remember, Rose was a genius with way too much ability.... so his simple mistake could have large consequences...
There are 3 known former champions: mustard, peony, and leon. Based on their ages, there was probably one between mustard and peony. I wonder what type they specialized in.
There probably was multiple champions in that time period. Galar region is filled to the brimm with trainers that are among the best of the best. Mustard we know was the champion 50 years ago (the card photo no doubt is his champion outfit) and he remained champion for 18 years, since we know photo is 50 years old the best case scenario is this was first day as a champion and he stepped down 32 years ago. Now Leon looks to be about 25 years old and he became champion at the age of 10 - even if we assume this very generous scenario we are left with 17 years of a gap between Mustard and Leon - Peony may be of legendary repute himself, but there is no way he kept this spot for so long. I'll assume that 50 years ago Mustard 32 years ago we have let's say 6 years of champions changing every year or so 26 years ago Peony becomes champion and keeps this position for let's say another 6 years 20 years ago Rose takes the league and Peony resigns as the champion Another 5 years without a deciding champion And 15 years ago youngster Leon becomes amazes the region with his flawless first attempt and remains undefeated until Gloria becomes the champion If we assume the card photo was taken later or that Leon is younger that 25 years old the time gap between Mustard and Leon widens even more. So yeah. There probably were a lot of people that won the tournament in these 17 or so years we don't know much about. But Peony was probably the only one who held the position long enough to get some recognition
There is a theory that there was a Ghost Type Champion or 1 with Gengar at least. Some people believe Mustard's prior Ace was a Machamp (maybe the one from G-Max Machamp dex entry) and the top 3 most popular Pokemon in Galar are Charizard, Gengar and Machamp. What could make a Pokemon so popular? Maybe being Well-recognized Champion Aces?
@@k2basior What you said about machamp an gengar being former champions aces made me think about bea and allister. Maybe they were mentored by former champions and have the same aces. Also, version exclusive champions would be pretty cool.
@@BirdKeeperToby I'd watch it! Theories are fun and distracting, and you and Lockstin in particular have nailed the presentation. The more casual form is like a more relaxed version. Pleasant like a hot drink in the evening.
@@cleangamer220 Maybe Wyndon used pokemon like cokeldurr, gurdurr, and timburr to help build it up fast. I know when I try to breed a shiny, It doesn't take too long to fill up the pc boxes. Maybe they got 20 trainers to focus on hatching eggs and feeding them exp candies to get the job done lol.
@@yugare-chan4742 well, Galar is based off England. Granted, real world London was built over hundreds (maybe thousands) of years, England does have some history in slavery (unfortunately). There is a very real possibility that there could be in the Pokemon world too, not necessarily people but more likely Pokemon, just like Yugare -Chan mentioned. We know that Pokemon are used for physical labour in the Pokemon world, with the likes of Machoke being used to move the boxes of the OrAs protagonists after they move to the Hoenn region. The more obvious Pokemon candidate for labour is the Conkelldure line (once again, like Yugare -Chan said) Timburr has a fast hatch rate and really high encounter rate, meaning they are easy to come by. Their high 25% encounter rate in the Galar mine could even be because they were originally used for moving around the mined resources (such as coal) from where they were gathered to factories, shops, houses or wherever they are needed. The entire line even hold building equipment, so when you even find a Timburr and evolve it once you get easy free building equipment and cheap, most likely free work since their trainers control them, and in the games a Pokemon can only ignore its trainer if it deems it unworthy due to a lack of badges.
@@PansyPops Further, Timburr at least are noted in the pokedex to enjoy helping out with construction work so much that they throw tantrums if they are not allowed to work.
little easter egg, but Kabu actually makes a comment about bringing Peony back to the league if they win together in the Galarian Star tournament---could also be hinting at thsi
Someone’s probably already said it’s but I doubt “Rose” is a family name, give that “Peony” is also a type of flower. What’s likely is the family just has an affinity for flower names. GameFreak also does have a history of giving related characters theme names. Gen 5 had Cilan, Chilli, and Cres (cooking ingredients), Gen 8 with Sordward and Shieldbert, just to name a few. And although it’s a relation by profession, every professor has a tree name, as we all know. Just a thought, not intentionally trying to sound aggressive or anything. :3
@@michaelwelch1785 apparently both Prof Juniper and her father go by the same name in the Japanese version though the Oaks do have given and family names
@@Screen_Shorts Yup we know they have some history together as Mustard league card mentions that he fought her in the past and Opel has been part of the league for 70 years and Mustard become champion 50 years ago. So it stands to reason that they have been friends and rivals for a long time.
Wow, this video aged really well. 1. We know for a fact that Peony is Rose's brother, was a gym leader, and then became the Champion for a short period of time. 2. We know that as soon as Rose became the chairman of the region, Peony left the league because he didn't like his "family's" ways. 3. That Mega Construx Charamander is fabulous. 4. We need more Calyrex translators. Please I beg you Arceus. 5. Mustard and Opal say that it's nice to battle each other again when fighting in the Galarian Star tournament. But, I disagree with your theory that Rose naively tricked Leon into becoming the unbeatable Champion and rigged his games. We see in the Twilight wings mini series that Leon can be Raihan in a fair fight, with Raihan being Champion-level himself. Leon even beats Lance in the Pokemon Journeys anime (although it was only a 1v1). At worst, I just think that Rose lied about Leon's title, and at best, Leon is the "unbeatable Champion" of the new Dynamax format.
Peony's daughter mentions the graveyard.... go there at night and see Oleana. She says she thinks Rose has been spotted. turns out its his brother peony
@@mnny1250 No they have never had the rights to Pokémon, they only just got the rights to Nintendo this year, but of course Pokémon being owned by game freak and the Pokémon company it isn't included in the deal. But if the Lego Mario and possible Zelda sets sell well I could see them changing over to Lego when there contracts with mega construx end.
I doubt they will and yeah I love stuff like league cards and the game checker that gives you more information about a character like they could so put that in the rotom phone and it tells you stuff about people.
Hey Toby one thing that baffled me and it still does is why Calyrex when you dynamax it turns blue... and not the usual red. A theory on that topic would be most appreciated because I for my part... well I don't know and I wouldn't know where to look😅.
This video was actually really therapeutic. Constructing a theory and this toy was calming as hell and I think I'm going to have a decent day because of it. Thanks BKT!
We don't know how long Peony was champion, only that he said it was brief. With that said, if a champion retires before they're beaten, a new champion may not be chosen right away
In one of the Yugioh spinoffs 5D's the at the time champion had all his title matches rigged but he himself had no idea that his matches were being rigged. Leon is likely a similar scenario where Rose was rigging his matches without Leon knowing about it.
I won’t lie I still think Leon is basically unbeatable before us. For one, he’s the first trainer I lost to twice in the game. Also, every other trainer that he faces is one of the gym leaders, also very bearable compared to him. If Leon is evil or some sort of cheater, then every other gym leader would be as well because they’re put up to be so big... I don’t think that tho. (I said something about this in the other video too)
The anime implies that chairman rose’s family lived in poverty and he died in the mines Ik it’s a different universe but there is no reason his family life wouldn’t be the same or similar He had the same life in both
Yeah and I think the base game makes it pretty clear Rose...rose to power because he figured out how to turn Eternatus' energy into power for Galar. It seems like he personally built up the current system.
I mean, the anime also implies Leon was an orphan and raised by Rose (Basically culling Bede and Hop at the same time). I wouldn't put much stock in what the anime says, since the anime changes things to fit the narrative better.
There is a few flaws with the anti-Leon theory. 1st, every gym trainer he fights actually acknowledged his skills. 2nd, Mustard himself acknowledges Leon. 3rd, Leon does way too much improve trainers to the point that he would never allow cheating. 4th, in the anime, he beat Lance. 5th, it seems to be canonical fact that Leon is actually really strong and it's only because the game designers wanted to make the game easy enough for 6 year olds that it's so easy to beat him. 6th, Leon being late constantly and always getting lost would mean that he'd be a bad choice for a fake champion for Rose. 7th, Rose actually acknowledged Leon's skills and it was because he knew how skilled Leon was that he was confident in his plan. 8th, Leon is someone who was willing to sacrifice himself to save 2 kids. 9th, It just seems to farfetched to have him be a villain 10. Gen 4 remakes are coming, so obviously, your point is moot.
Don’t think his a villain either just bad manners and either to focus or easily distracted at times from being to focus on tournament instead of helping during the crisis or getting distracted when he agreed to meet somewhere but doesn’t show up, I mean Zoro from One Piece has a terrible sense of direction always getting lost, and the Flash during one crossover with Green Arrow is told by Oliver you have a speedster ability and your always late so I think it’s an overconfident quirk some good guys get tbh
By the way Toby, if you talk to Peonia enough in the Max Lair you can get an Easter egg to talk to Oleana at the grave yard of the crown tundra. She reveals that Peony is in fact Chairman Rose’s Brother. Also, Peony was a Steel Gym leader as mentioned by Peonia. I feel like if he was a champion, Peonia would’ve mentioned it.
In one of the recent episodes of the Pokémon Journeys anime (SwSh arc), Rose gets a bit of backstory. When he was young, his father died while working in the mines. So I'm not sure if it's possible for Rose's father to also be a League chairman. Keep in mind this is anime canon but this specific SwSh arc seems to draw quite heavily from the games' story.
Mustard’s card only says the picture was taken 50 years ago, not that he became champion 50 years ago. He could’ve been champion for some time before that, making the gap between him and Leon even larger. Also, there could’ve been many champions during that time, fleeting as their “reign” may be. Like sports team, which can have a streak of titles or sporadic ones.
People say Rose "disappeared", like he fell off the face of the Earth, but in game you're told that he turned himself in. So Rose didn't just disappear, he's in jail. No one seemed to have told Oleana this however, so therefore she's going around and searching for him.
I did read someone theorizing in the comments of one video (forget whose video and which one it was) that maybe the Dynamax Adventures Max Lair is where Rose found Eternatus. Nia does question if there's a giant Wishing Star buried underneath.
Those weird electric things are probs just things made by Macro Cosmos to help the dynamax adventures work. The dynamax Adventures are most likely funded and are given their assets by Macro Cosmos.
I think you got confused as Leon never passed any of the trials to actually get Cubfu as his sense of direction was so bad. He is Mustard most powerful and skilled student but he never actually passed the trails.
Maybe it wasn't rigged as we may think. Perhaps he was told to Dynamax or Gigantimax for the first time in battle and to Mustard, it presents an unfair advantage to his opponent.
@@gabriellockwood2780 the current chairman at the time he was champion asked him to win a rigged match. Showing that the champion and chairman have two different roles.
@@dragonmaster1006 But I mean at any point. Galar is an extremely old region, perhaps in the past- at some point, the roles were the same. Like in the other games (besides Alola), in the manga and anime, the Champions all seem to be involved with all types of activities and what not, etc.
Hey Toby you mentioned Rose and Peony being brothers but you said it as if it was speculation, it isn’t. Because it was confirmed in the game! Peony’s rare league card mentions that not only is he rose’s brother, he ALSO was a champion. Edit: Oops. Just realized this was most likely recorded before Crown tundra released. Also good job on figuring out that Rose and Peony are brothers. ^_^
God, my parents would have been so happy if Pokémon Lega existed back when I was still playing with Lego. That'd been an easy birthday / christmas gift for years!
I didn't know rose came second. There's no way that peony beat rose to be champion right? Rose is older so would have don't the cup before peony and it would just be too big a detail to leave out right?
I've always liked to think Leon's Charizard is the Charmander from the dojo. They did say Leon never finished training because of his absolutely garbage sense of direction and never got a Kubfu lol Anyway, I think Leon bred his Charizard and gave us the Charmander for defeating him. I don't think Leon would agree to rigged matches; he just seems too genuine and kind. Rose could absolutely be pulling something from behind the scenes, tho. It makes me wonder if all the matches between Leon and Raihan have been official matches during the season or if they meet up and battle at other times since they are friends. Anywho, I definitely think Peony could have been the champion before Leon and disagreed with the shady ways of the League when he found out what was going in. Could also explain why he and Rose aren't close. This was a good, mostly finished theory and now I really want a mega contrux Lucario and Mew
I just trying to figure out where the conversation of a rigged champion match cane from exactly I’m baffled is that just a theory or was there some dialogue in game that mentions and points to that
Since this was made before TCT came out, I'll gladly give you the benefit of the doubt in that. Anyways, I'd probably say this theory has some ground to it since some of the stuff kind of adds up. But I'd say it isn't correct by looking at 2 important characters in Leon's life: Sonia and Raihan. Sonia is Leon's childhood friend, and would know how strong he is and if he'd be able to become Champion or not, but she seems to know that he could've. Secondly, Raihan doesn't exactly seem like the person who would be okay with rigged matches, as he likes to go all out. He's also stated how strong Leon is, like Sonia
Bird keeper Toby, but chairman Rose's father died in Animé. Can we take that into consideration that maybe it was someone else who was the league's chairman before Rose took over?
LOL I can’t believe you called all of this. Peony was a Champion between Mustard and Leon, and he quit when Rose became Chairman, so he was likely the one directly before Leon.
Fun Fact: you CAN select and clear a tower without Kubfu! Mustard and others will constantly tell you that they don't see Kubfu in your party or box and that there's not much point wothout it BUT they don't attempt to stop you either
Spitballing Pokemon theories while building model Pokemon should be your new series. I doubt that ALL of Leon's matches were fixed. To win ALL the Championship AND exhibition matches illegitimately is a LOT of fixed matches and a LOT of people would have to be in on it. Not least of which the person who loses. So, it's possible there were rigged matches...but I doubt it was super prevalent. Anyway, I hope there was some legal thing with Construx that delayed this because uploading this BEFORE crown Tundra...or seeing that Peony IS Rose's brother and then immediately uploading it that first day would have been the way to go. Either way, great call.
Yay I mean the only mention we have of fixed matches in the entire game is with Mustard and that was most likely years before Leon was even born. Also the chairman of that time was definitely not Rose so we cant hold him to the same standards and seeing that his backup plan to deal with a legendary pokemon was Leon himself shows that he had a lot of respect and belief in Leon power. This wouldent make sense if Leon was actually a weaking that Rose pretended was powerful.
You do realise the biggest clue to suggest Rose and Peony are both brothers apart from their appearance (and Peony's league card) is their names. They are both named after flowers.
Peony and Rose are flowers and thus brothers. Peony being the adventurer discovered Eternatus and told his brother Rose who seen the potential with the energy.
Ayy this video is out. I remember during your Crown Tundra stream you mentioned this video after reading Peony's league cards. Do you plan on making another video about Peony now that you know his story?
I think opal was a in-between champion. Its a rough reference but opal spoke as if she had experience being used by oliana. This could be the followup to mustard who left for similar reason (being used by the chairman).
So I know this was recorded before the release but I'm curious about something Anybody else wonder what Oriana ment by asking herself where are you and was talking about Chairman Rose? I'm curious what she ment like does that mean he escaped? Or does the graveyard being where you find her implicate that he's died? I've thought about ever since seeing the cut scene
She heard rumours that Rose was seen in the Crown tundra and was confused because she knows he went to prison. She came to the region to confirm wither or not he was actually in the region.
@@johnherb4243 I like to think that because he got lost on his way to the towers, he returned to the dojo and gave Kubfu back to Mustard, which would explain why Kubfu was shy and hesitant to interact with us at first. He doesn’t know if he should trust us to make him strong, since the last guy couldn’t make it.
I don’t know if I would go as deep in the franchise lore to say Leon is meant to be an evil character but to support this theory I will say his biggest rival is Raihan.... someone who is always focused on getting the crowds attention with how he always carried his phone and the dialogue revolves around pleasing the crowd in that regard. If Leon was the big bad, he would want someone who would be more pleased by the attention rather than the actual glory of victory and Raihan fits the bill
Well, it's mostly a good theory for the part the Peony competed with his brother. But, knowing that Peoney was the steel type gym leader and that Rose began has miner in Galar's mines like Oleana said in a dialogue, I don't think that their father was the previous chairman. I think that Peoney and Rose began from nothing and while Peoney ran from home and became a steal type gym leader, Rose took over his father's business has miner in the mines of galar after loosing in the league and found randomelly the best part the mine wishing stars as well as the place were Eternatus was sealed away. Plus, since wishing stars are probably a metal as rare and precious as gold and has the power to dynamax pokemons, Rose made a lot of money and bought as much compagny as he could in the galar region until he became the chairman.
You mention in passing that peony looks like chairman rose, this while only observable is outright stated with a new event introduced in crown tundra where oleana is looking for rose in the area, peony walks in, oleana realizing what people meant by something fitting that description, and is just absolutely livid and leaves. Meaning the game wants to draw parallel to them, but I personally don't think they are related or oleana likely would have said something if not just in passing. (Maybe she just wouldn't know if they were or weren't related, but I personally think she would have that info.) Tl;dr (too lazy didn't read, there is an oleana event related to peony and rose... if I remember correctly it's triggered in some graveyard.)
I don't think Leon is evil myself. Will be a crazy twist of he was though. lol And it's awesome to see Kadabra getting some love, not too often u see Kadabra stuff. 😄
That's some solid theory-crafting. I can believe it. Leon's undefeated status is suspicious, especially given how much more difficult other region's championships have been. And his celebrity status, and the spectacle of Rose's more organised (*cough* controlled *cough*) League compared to other regions, gives more of a "rigged competitions" vibe. What I'm not sure about is whether or not Leon is entirely aware. I won't spoil details for anyone who hasn't finished, but Leon's pet project feels pretty on-the-level to me, and if he knew the Galar League was an entirely rigged endeavour (and were involved), I feel like he would be less than ingenuous with the thing he's made. I guess that's part of the brainstorming phase of a good theory, though. Perhaps what we see during and after the events of SwSh's main story is actually the first bit of genuine competition that Galar has seen in awhile. And perhaps that's just because Leon hasn't gotten around to rigging it his way yet.
eh. I had a few of those pokemon mega construx sets, but the parts are *really* bad, since they break extremely easilly. Its probably cause the molds they use.
I have a theory that Leon has never caught a Pokemon in his life. Let's look at the evidence. When going up against Eternatus, he throws a Pokeball before battling it down. Not a Quick Ball, Dusk Ball or even an Ultra Ball. I'd accept him to use a Beast Ball or Net Ball in that situation. But a Pokeball is complete amateur. Plus he has 2 starters on his team. Traditionally gifted by professors. He was given 3 Pokemon by the Professor and kept the third one. Plus Hop would have been taught how to catch Pokemon by him if he were a great trainer. We see Hop catch one Pokemon. Zacian. He winds up a 100mph baseball throw, to a Pokemon 12 inches away. He effectively bricks it. If Hop's dad was a trainer or champion, Hop would say he wants to be like his brother and father. I submit that their father was a Pokemon breeder. He has access to a wide range of rare and powerful Pokemon which he bred and gave one to his son. Champion Leon may be, trainer he is not.
I think it's implied that Leon did battle and weaken Eternatus before throwing a ball at it. Most trainers seem to just use standard Poke Balls to catch anything, so that doesn't prove (or disprove) anything. However, Eternatus broke free, needing two more beat downs, including a four-on-one battle with Zacian and Zamazenta against its wildly out of control Eternamax form, before it would submit. Plus he literally catches a Wooloo on Route 2 as the "catching tutorial". (which is skipped if the player has already caught at least one Pokemon) So that puts a dent in the theory.
Hey Toby nice theory but Peone can weave the reins of unity for Calyrex which we learn only the ancestor and the family of the mayor of Freezington can weave and yet Peone did it with ease not to mention Peone’s name sounds a lot like peon which is another word for attendant/ assistant which the mayor’s ancestor was for Calyrex as well as Peone as a way of communicating with us the players.
The biggest flaw in this theory is that there's two people, at least, that don't question Leon being undefeated, ones that would definitely question it if they didn't acknowledge his skills enough to think its possible, if Leon had to rely on rigged matches. The first is the most obvious, Sonia. She grew up as Leon's rival, she should know better than anyone his battling skills. If she doubted he could be good enough to be undefeated, she would question it and try to figure out what's going on. But she doesn't. Nor is she in a position to know and be keeping the fact that its rigged a secret, which is the only way she could doubt him being that good and not question it. The other is Raihan, his current rival in the league. Raihan is the one that's lost to Leon in the championship most recently and likely also lost against him in the cup that Leon first won (not saying he was champion at one point, but that he made it to the tournament as well and lost, like with Hop and yourself). If it was rigged, it would be impossible for Raihan to NOT know. Either he would be the one they keep asking to throw their matches, or he would have noticed things happening to make him lose (if it was Rose cheating for Leon and not asking Raihan to throw matches). But he also doesn't question things or bring them up. Now, I'm not saying that rigging matches for Leon to win is impossible, but you do need to look at the situation to consider things. With how the league challenge is in the games, it wouldn't be easy to rig matches, let alone do so consistently. First off, all of the gym leaders would need to be in on it, just so that if any of them reached Leon in the finals, they would know to throw the match. But beyond that, so would any of the challengers like yourself and Hop that reach that final match. There would be too many people that would need to be in on the cheating for it to work. Its not a closed league, meaning there are new challengers every year unaffiliated with the league, as well as repeat challengers, be it the gym leaders or those like the NPCs that say they've tried multiple times. In a closed league, everyone would work for the same people and could easily be paid to lose if they reached the top, letting them rig matches all of the time to manipulate the entire tournament. With an open league of only new competitors, the final match can be rigged by paying off one person and nobody would question it. But in an open league with a mix of new and repeat challengers, how many times can the last match be rigged before people question it? There's just too many people to pay off to keep it quiet and too many chances for someone to leak the truth. And that spills into the final piece of evidence that it isn't faked. Your match against Leon, the one that was interrupted by Chairman Rose's plan. There is no evidence anywhere of rigging. Nobody trying to make you lose early so that Raihan could face him and throw the match. Nobody asked you to throw the match. Yes, the match was disrupted by Chairman Rose's plan, but its likely that his ideal outcome of the plan was for Leon to handle things so they could get their infinite energy and then continue with the league finals as normal, in which case he would have wanted it rigged for Leon to win. My whole point is that there is no evidence at all that Leon's matches were rigged. The closest piece of evidence is a league card stating that before retiring, Mustard was asked to win a rigged match as champion. But that was at least two champions ago, likely with a different chairman, and if its on his league card, was obviously revealed with the culprits likely stripped of their position if not jailed for trying to rig the matches. Its not nearly enough evidence to suggest that Leon's matches were rigged. Besides, a poor sense of direction, obviously exaggerated for humour, really doesn't say anything about whether or not Leon could be capable of being the undefeated champion. And you know what the other big difference between all of Leon's other matches and the one where he finally lost to you? It was his first match against you and, from what's been shown, one of his few against someone other than Raihan (at least since becoming champion). Could it really not be that you're just the first to actually be better than him?
For me, I think the reason why Leon gets lost so easily might tie into this manipulation. He's been told to go places as the champion that, not only does he have bad navigation skills but he also hasn't really explored Galar. Perhaps "Getting lost" is his form of rebellion where he's forgiven for journeying out on his own by saying he got lost. Honestly, Galar feels more corporate with Rose under the helm and, when Leon became champion at a very young age, Rose saw marketability and groomed this 10 year old child into a big media personality. It also helped having Raihan there as the eternal rival since that's a continuing narrative. Hop is supposed to be around the same age as the main character so whilst he may have been alive to see Leon become champion, chances are he doesn't remember much of Leon before he took on the title, so Hop has most likely only known Leon as the Champion and bought into that stage persona. I mean, it's not too hard to believe this. Especially for Galarian trainers whose self confidence is as strong as a Magikarp. Seriously, most of them give up after losing to Kabu and Piers and Team Yell's nepotism to Marnie is a big deal. Then again, nepotism is at the core of Galar's league since most of the gyms seem to be family businesses and, to compete, you have to be endorsed by someone. Compare that to every other region where anyone can get registered to compete. Since no one questions it, whilst that can be chalked up to linear storytelling, this suggests that Galar's tradition led structures, mixed with a lack of understanding of these traditions and corporate handholding, has left Leon in a gilded cage and trainers who have a mentality of "be born into it or fail trying".
Yeah but also I thought I’d be kind of fun to have a prediction video that ended up being pretty accurate that was filmed before hand ^_^ read the pinned comment ^_^
@@BirdKeeperToby Do you have any plans to make a follow up video since the DLC is out and we have more info? Just to discuss if any thoughts or theories have changed now that it's out? Not nessecary obviously if you're working on other stuff but it could be fun.
Oleana has a cutscene in crown tundra revealing they are brothers so Peony could of past down chairman to Rose and before Peony is could of been their father as for champion Rihan could of been champion before Leon, they have a rivalry based relationship
Peony was a gym leader and a champion and it is confirmed they are brothers and that he was a delinquent and a rule breaker He doesn’t work in the CT he went there for a visit
Wow! I LOVED this video!! Dang! Toby, how amazing are you to hit the nail so well on the head!? I'm not gonna lie tho, if I was to put something in here, I honestly don't think Leon is evil. I don't even think he wanted to be champion. I honestly believe his words when he says he just wants to have a "Champion Time". I feel Leon IS a strong trainer a really strong trainer based on my experience in the games and other media like the latest episode of Twilight Wings. Maybe it's just the Galar brainwashing talking, but I feel like the reason I get a weird vibe from him sometimes is because he got caught up in something that was way bigger than himself and now he can't escape it. ... I guess I'm basically saying I'm a simp for Leon.
Anyone notice at 12:20 that on his table are pieces which seem to be leftover for some reason...! I thought he was going to make a parallel between his theory and charmander both have leftover pieces yet to be figured out (or something like that)!!
The only thing is that, why would Rose and Peony work in mining if their father is the Chairman and most likely rich. Sure that could have just been the field both were interested in, but when you talk to Oleanna to me it seems implied that Rose was poor and went on to go from rags to riches. I personally don’t think Rose’s and Peony’s father was the chairman but who knows.

I know this is pre recorded, but for anyone who doesn’t know, Peony’s rare league card confirms that he and Rose are brothers
I think he was also confirmed as a former champion of I remember correctly
@@willminchin5928 yes then he left for rose
@@tarequemohammedsohel5468 well more that he left because of Rose
@@MineNAdventurer yeah
A Peony is a type of Rose/Flower as well.
I'll assume that 50 years ago Mustard
32 years ago we have let's say 6 years of champions changing every year or so
26 years ago Peony becomes champion and keeps this position for let's say another 6 years
20 years ago Rose takes the league and Peony resigns as the champion
Another 5 years without a deciding champion
And 15 years ago youngster Leon becomes amazes the region with his flawless first attempt and remains undefeated until Gloria becomes the champion
If we assume the card photo was taken later or that Leon is younger that 25 years old the time gap between Mustard and Leon widens even more.
So yeah. There probably were a lot of people that won the tournament in these 17 or so years we don't know much about. But Peony was probably the only one who held the position long enough to get some recognition
What if it was Mustard, Honey and then Peony.

He was the Steel gym leader before becoming champion briefly
Someone’s probably already said it’s but I doubt “Rose” is a family name, give that “Peony” is also a type of flower. What’s likely is the family just has an affinity for flower names.
GameFreak also does have a history of giving related characters theme names. Gen 5 had Cilan, Chilli, and Cres (cooking ingredients), Gen 8 with Sordward and Shieldbert, just to name a few. And although it’s a relation by profession, every professor has a tree name, as we all know.
Just a thought, not intentionally trying to sound aggressive or anything. :3
I think this is supported by Peony's daughter's name being Peonia. There's now an established precedent for a trend of flower names in the family.

Peony was champion but left when his older brother, rose became chairmen
So... then there has to be someone between Peony and Leon.
We don't know how long Peony was champion, only that he said it was brief. With that said, if a champion retires before they're beaten, a new champion may not be chosen right away
I think Rose indorsed Leon to get Peony out of the league and that is why he left
In one of the Yugioh spinoffs 5D's the at the time champion had all his title matches rigged but he himself had no idea that his matches were being rigged. Leon is likely a similar scenario where Rose was rigging his matches without Leon knowing about it.
Kind of reminds me of a similar theory involving Alistair having his social media presence molded by Rose by exploiting the boy's insecurities.
(I said something about this in the other video too)
The anime implies that chairman rose’s family lived in poverty and he died in the mines
Ik it’s a different universe but there is no reason his family life wouldn’t be the same or similar
He had the same life in both
Yeah and I think the base game makes it pretty clear Rose...rose to power because he figured out how to turn Eternatus' energy into power for Galar.
9th, It just seems to farfetched to have him be a villain
No,rose's dad wasn't the chairman cuz he was also a miner and died in a accident in the mine according to the anime
He was. His card says so.
Hop is ten and leon looks around 21-25
In one of the recent episodes of the Pokémon Journeys anime (SwSh arc), Rose gets a bit of backstory. When he was young, his father died while working in the mines. So I'm not sure if it's possible for Rose's father to also be a League chairman. Keep in mind this is anime canon but this specific SwSh arc seems to draw quite heavily from the games' story.
thanks for the heart!
They could have given us actual Legos
Mustard’s card only says the picture was taken 50 years ago, not that he became champion 50 years ago. He could’ve been champion for some time before that, making the gap between him and Leon even larger. Also, there could’ve been many champions during that time, fleeting as their “reign” may be. Like sports team, which can have a streak of titles or sporadic ones.
Damn man I wish I had the flow of hair that Toby has 😂😂😂
Good news- you’re right about Peony being a champion and being Roses brother.
I actually own the Tyranitar figure and it’s pretty cool
People say Rose "disappeared", like he fell off the face of the Earth, but in game you're told that he turned himself in. So Rose didn't just disappear, he's in jail. No one seemed to have told Oleana this however, so therefore she's going around and searching for him.
Does anyone have any theories about those weird electric things in front of the max raid lair and in the basement of hammerlocke stadium?

I didn't know rose came second. There's no way that peony beat rose to be champion right? Rose is older so would have don't the cup before peony and it would just be too big a detail to leave out right?
Queen Elizabeth was the final Champion
So Rose is a Family name so it is
Peony __ Rose
I just trying to figure out where the conversation of a rigged champion match cane from exactly I’m baffled is that just a theory or was there some dialogue in game that mentions and points to that
Something really weird just happened. I was on this video down in the comments, but it was the comments from another video.
That happens to me to lol
Such an intriguing way to look at it all and put together all the pieces lol, you’ve got me wanting to research everything now 😂
Since this was made before TCT came out, I'll gladly give you the benefit of the doubt in that.
What if Peony ran away when his father died and Rose was adopted by someone (prior Champion)?
LOL I can’t believe you called all of this. Peony was a Champion between Mustard and Leon, and he quit when Rose became Chairman, so he was likely the one directly before Leon.
There's a mini cut scene in the old graveyard in the crown tundra with Oliana that confirms that Peony and Rose are brothers.
Aw thanks ^_^ it was a tad delayed but none the less fun to see how it pannned out ^_^
Yay I mean the only mention we have of fixed matches in the entire game is with Mustard and that was most likely years before Leon was even born.
Toby be multitasking👌
Once you get Peony in the Star Tournament, it does open up some interesting dialogue.
*peone took over and became champion*
it says he left because his brother rose joined the league
It doesn't say he left because of his brother. It says he disappeared from the league after his brother became chairman so this theory still holds up
If I remember correctly someone said that peony was champion then when rose became chairman peony just left not to be seen by the league again
Wow... This is a pretty interesting thory.
Ayy this video is out. I remember during your Crown Tundra stream you mentioned this video after reading Peony's league cards. Do you plan on making another video about Peony now that you know his story?
Love how you put more thought into Pokémon lore than gamefreak lol
Does the Peony-Rose champion battle still hold up after the Crown Tundra?
If anything it makes more sense now. I hard disagree with their father being involved though.
@@erimgard3128 yeah i was just wondering if Peony being champion was disproven in the Crown Tundra
Actually leon doesn’t have a kubfu because in the dialogue it says leon never finished any of mustard’s trials because he got lost
Specifically it stats he never made it to either the tower of water or darkness. He could potentially have a Kubfu but can't evolve it.
@@Mr.2Dirty interesting thought.
Rose and Peony are both flowers.
Heh.
They're the two brother kings
Love this super speculative theory it’s great :)
Can you do this again it's quite calming and I like to watch it
You mention in passing that peony looks like chairman rose, this while only observable is outright stated with a new event introduced in crown tundra where oleana is looking for rose in the area, peony walks in, oleana realizing what people meant by something fitting that description, and is just absolutely livid and leaves. Meaning the game wants to draw parallel to them, but I personally don't think they are related or oleana likely would have said something if not just in passing. (Maybe she just wouldn't know if they were or weren't related, but I personally think she would have that info.)
Tl;dr (too lazy didn't read, there is an oleana event related to peony and rose... if I remember correctly it's triggered in some graveyard.)
I don't think Leon is evil myself.
Will be a crazy twist of he was though. lol
And it's awesome to see Kadabra getting some love, not too often u see Kadabra stuff.
Toby I love these mega construx!!! I hope you love them too!!!
Did you not get Peony's rare league card?
Hey Toby nice theory but Peone can weave the reins of unity for Calyrex which we learn only the ancestor and the family of the mayor of Freezington can weave and yet Peone did it with ease not to mention Peone’s name sounds a lot like peon which is another word for attendant/ assistant which the mayor’s ancestor was for Calyrex as well as Peone as a way of communicating with us the players.
Mindblowned bro, mindblowned
Dude the game confirmed that Chairman Rose and Peony are related read Peony's rare leage card
He made the video before the CT idk why he posted that after the dlc
@@enricoscatolin5906 yeah, he probably should have posted this before the DLC came out. I guess something delayed it?
Yeah but also I thought I’d be kind of fun to have a prediction video that ended up being pretty accurate that was filmed before hand ^_^ read the pinned comment ^_^
But it kinda ceases to be a prediction video for the audience if it comes out after. Oh well. I still watched it lol.
Next, your going to tell me MatPat will be sponsored by LEGO.
Peony was a gym leader and a champion and it is confirmed they are brothers and that he was a delinquent and a rule breaker
He doesn’t work in the CT he went there for a visit
TOBY HAS AN AD AND HE GOT TO GO ON THE POKEMON BUS I AM SO HECCING PROUD!!!
Awww Thank you :D
This is cool as I always want to know how u make ur pokemon theory so thank u
Bw and bw2 are only 2 years apart. And they build an entire stadium in that time. I think a city can be built in like 20 lol
Also when your in the fairy gym right before you go battle the gym leader there a paper on the table saying leon nevered pass
Aw I liked that idea. Yeah they just ended up being spare peices ^_^
Rose and peane are Brothers
Thank you toby you also made me want to buy mega construtions
I love mega construx. I have a whole display of them in my room.
Well Toby that's a believable theory that it may be true , who knows maybe Game Freak will do an upgrade to his past , if they think about it
Peony beat him, him and rose are brothers, and peony was once a champion, it's all stated and all confirmed in the crown tundra
Rose and Peony are confirmed to be brothers in game, as well as Peony being a champion, lmao.
This was filmed before the Crown tundra released
The only thing is that, why would Rose and Peony work in mining if their father is the Chairman and most likely rich. Sure that could have just been the field both were interested in, but when you talk to Oleanna to me it seems implied that Rose was poor and went on to go from rags to riches. I personally don’t think Rose’s and Peony’s father was the chairman but who knows.
Hey Toby! Please try Nano block Pokémon next time! They’re so cool and a bit more of a challenge
