Nicole LaFoille discusses different types of pillows and shows you how to perfect the corners. You can make a knife edge pillow by stitching two fabric panels together along the edge, and a box edge pillow by joining a front and back panel with a continuous side panel strip.

Seriously, I just watched about 15 terrible videos trying to find an EASY box pillow tutorial. I ran across your video months ago and didn’t save it. Your last option for boxing the pillows seems to be the easiest out there. Thank you! I’ll be doing this tomorrow with fabric I bought at the beginning of COVID.
Me too ! Wanting to make box pillows to match a quilt I’m finishing up and like you I watched several videos. This is the best method for getting that really squared up corner. Simply do not sew the strip all the way across. 😃 04/21/2021

I was trying to make a box pillow but with rounded corners and was struggling to line up the rounded edges and make it look nice and neat. Only after watching you sew this pointy edge box pillow did it occur to me that I should have been cutting my pattern square then adding curved edges on the machine itself. *face palm* thanks for kick-starting my slow brain lol. I don't know what I was thinking lol.

Really useful video, thank you. Would be helpful to see you measure the fabric for the second box form pillow: not clear enough whether you measure width + one side height, or width + two side heights. As a beginner, I had to watch a few times to get it!
A use of another contrast fabric on the box edge might have made the demo clearer.

Thanks for your video... I am making a cover for a speaker box... to shield it from weather.. and no where could I find out how to do the corners... so you have been a great help... I am going to make a mock up and try this , but i am sure it will work... just on a bigger scale...
Thanks so much. I am wrestling with patio furniture cushions and I hated the pointy ends.....plus I learned box corners and now I can add cording around the middle of the cushion instead of around the edges.

Hi, I am wondering how to sew the pillow closed with the boxed edges. How did you do the final seam? Was it done by hand?
Perfect for what I was looking for, and like others have said, one of the best explanations. However, I want to put in a zipper in the boxed corner pillow, so it can easily be removed and washed. I wish this method had been included!

This is a great video.. very helpful.. Question on the boxed corners... how far down do you go on that corner to sew across? Does it depend on how deep your insert is? example...5 inches deep.. should I go down 5 inches?
Hi,
Yes, how far down you go depends on how deep or thick your insert is. For your example of 5" you would only want to go down 2 1/2". You measure down half of what you want your finished boxed corner to be.

Wonderful video! I wonder if it's possible to insert piping or cording around the box edge pillow following this technique?
Hello Anne. Yes, you can still add piping to a pillow using this technique. To do so, simply sandwich the piping between the front/back pieces and the strip that goes around the perimeter of the pillow prior to stitching. Hope this helps!
