I really love intense, challenging games, but that doesn't mean I can't also love relaxing games that are just fun. I think fun factor is something lost in a lot of games these days. Some of the best games I've played aren't fun at all. Maybe they're compelling, interesting, deep, exciting, challenging or rewarding... But I still end up feeling like I didn't really get the stress relieving break I had aimed for. It's one of the reasons I love the Switch and Nintendo.
They're pretty great at make games that are truly FUN. And while this isn't a Nintendo developed game, it seems right at home among the library on the Switch.
It's a platform game with a fox, I'm already sold.

Great review! After watching this, i bought it on PC, as i recently finished 'A Hat In Time' and wanted something similar. I especially like how you said it's 'simple' and doesnt have a plethora of abilities and upgrades - i also recently finished Ori and the will o' the wisps, and although i enjoyed it a lot, i found all its abilities and upgrades kinda complicated and stressful. This looks like a chilled time, reminiscent of PS2 platformers like you said. Thanks!
EDIT - finished the story the day after i bought it, and loved it! Really fun, simple and charming game that was a breath of fresh air in this age of complex, demanding games. Eager to go back and get all the bits i missed, and play the postgame hub.

A fun "wall-climbing exploit" for you to try: walk into a flat wall, double jump, and then repeatedly:
1) press ZR
2) when the ground pound animation starts, press Y
3) when the spinning animation starts, jump
4) when you're at the peak of the jump, start the cycle again by pressing ZR
Congratulations! Now you can climb walls and break the game in new and exciting ways!
Just looking at this character makes me happy, I never wanted a game so much for sheer cuteness.
Really enjoying this game. Hardcore gamer here, but sometimes, all you wanna chill to is a 3d platformer with alot of character and humor.

I just bought a switch lite to take to work while I leave my normal one docked at home, and this game is the most fun to play on the tiny screen, it feels like playing a cozy platformer on the 3ds again
Dont forget the slightly drawnout but still heartfelt message the devos tucked in the one of the games dialogue and shared via that rabbit in one of the cages. You know the one.
I too feel like this was like conkers original disposition. Kinda makes me think of tails if he had his own game
I played the demo and absolutely loved it, esp. the music which is very catchy! I'm definitely going to buy it in future.
It's like the style of spyro and crash buy with a cute character that reminds me of tails from sonic! How cute!
I got the PC version back at the initial release. At the time, coins didn't do anything but leat you get that in-level clover. Was a bit disappointed to hear that apparently, the game launched a bit too early and they hadn't everything right at the start. I definitely consider getting this adorabel game again though, as I appreciate playing such games on the go.
@Johnny Tran Indeed. That's what I tend to do with the Nintendo Switch. The library of games is already great and keeps getting bigger each year.

@Johnny Tran There exist so many great games in general, so that I tend to rarely buy anything except when there is like a special campaign for games (like buy-2-receive-3). That way I can save money myself for this expensive hobby.

A great improvement and totally different compare to the last game I played last year. I enjoy this game and it's in 60fps amd 4k for Xbox One X
Just discovered this game a few days ago. Just played the demo a few mins ago, I liked it. Reminds me of something like on the PlayStation 1 games.

I played through the xbox version of the game when it launched & even with it's janky camera work I LOVED it so much I played through it twice. Since I haven't played through any of the DLCs & I'm a huge LUCKY fan & because I just got a Switch last night & have no games, I'm absolutely picking this up today.

I have no idea why but the level design is reminding my of Skylanders for some reason and now my nostalgia senses are going crazy.
Nintendo wouldn't let me add more funds so I was gonna buy it on my XSX instead but turns out it was included in Game Pass
I never played it until I got the PS4 version and alough hard at times I give it an 11 out 10. I had the Windows 10 version on my MAC and wean played the PS4 version. I moved to PS4 version since I liked it better on my 4K TV. I just keep the Windows 10 version on my MAC laptop for on the road paly.
The game is fun and gorgeus, and its simplicity is what makes it good :)

Tried the demo for the Switch. The colors look very washed out. Looks like the brightness was turned way up. Doesn't look right.

I played the demo recently and it definitely helped sell me on the game. It's fun and it apparently being on the shorter side actually adds to the appeal for me.
I appreciate your point of it being pleasant, offline, and straight forward. After 39yrs of gaming, I miss the days of just picking up a game and enjoying it without having to worry about upgrading, playing online, or having the game bring up something about our current culture/politics
Nabad Reynoso I buy certain games for those reasons. I’ll put on megaman cuphead or even castle crashers just to play where I’ll put games like zelda or skyrim on when I want to play more complex or have enough time to play a good session
I totally agree. Sometimes you just want to play something fun & relaxing. Such a great game. If you like this game you should also try A Hat in Time as it has a physical release for switch today as well. Waiting for UPS to drop mine off now. Such a great day to be a platforming fan.
@@Itsfayd Those are all good options. And if you haven't done so already, try Astrobot on PSVR. Literally, one more the best escapist games I've ever played.

@@thomaslee2558 if it’s for the switch, I’d go with megaman zero collection, which is on sale now. megaman X collection is really good but the zero collection has way more features and more fast paced gameplay. Really hard but really fun to play

The "way too short" and "way too easy" complaints are a bit too exaggerated...
Yeah the difficulty ramps up quite nicely near the end and I would say collecting every page and trophy in the game takes a decent amount of time. I think it is a mistake to think that just because a game is 3D and costs a bit more than a cheap indie game that means they need to pad out the content. This game has plenty, it feels just right. Stays fun from beginning to end and never overstays its welcome.
There really not, maybe for young kids it’s more challenging but I remember playing the game when it came out on Xbox, completed it with all collectables and 100% achievements in an 8 hour sitting and I reckon I lost 2 lives max.

This runs so much better than "A Hat In Time" which came out recently. I wasted money on that crappy port. This game though is awesome and runs smooth. The Switch is becoming my platforming games machine

The dev team for A Hat in Time just put a patch out to fix some of the issues with the switch release a couple days ago. & I totally agree that the switch is becoming the main system for a platforming fan like myself. I have always owned Nintendo consoles but I have to say that the switch & super nintendo have definitely been my favorite, as platformers are all I play because that's all I'm good at. You should definitely give A Hat in Time another chance, the dev team is working on it constantly to get it fixed & make it run better on the switch.
Shovel Knight is a Metroidvania, not a platformer but ok
For some reason, the European discover section on the e-shop labels Shovel Knight as a metroidvania.
I haven’t played hat in time yet. I plan to get it during Black Friday on steam. I’ve just been assuming that the pc version is the best because of the mods and online stuff. If I were to get SLT, it would probably be on switch, although it would have to be on sale. 40 bucks is kinda steep.

There are too many Switch games that I want to play. I bought Ni No Kuni before Luigi's Mansion came out, so then I got distracted with that, and now I want to get Ori and Yooka Laylee and now this....and next Pokemon comes out. Ugghhhhh!

This game is giving me ratchet and clank, jak and daxter and spyro vibes, all of which i adored on the ps2. I will definitely be picking this up. Im not a hardcore gamer by any means so im confident this will keep me entertained for awhile.

It's got some Crash bandicoot and Mario elements to it. I can see myself enjoying this game.

Don't listen to the IGN reviews of this game seriously, it's an absolute brilliant 3d platform game well worth a buy both of them

Master Mittens. My god this game is SO painfully cute.
When I tried the demo out it got a laugh out of me with the name of the big bad brigade being "the Kitty Litter."

I had the pleasure of playing this game fully; I really enjoyed all the different aspects of the game's tone, characters, and gameplay.
I've never been good at platformers, but so far I'm loving this game.

The name doesn't help much. I mean, it basically just screams "shovelware" as far as names go. I only just chanced upon someone who actually told me a bit about it, and previously didn't even look at it in the store and thus didn't even check that it had a demo. I'll have to do look into it more properly.

The Xbox version, I had no issues with the camera or switch version. I don't know why people are complaining about the camera but it works fine for me.
Look I know this is an unpopular opinion but this game is my Mario 64! I’m not a huge fan of Mario 64, I know SHOCKING!

Ten times better than the original imo it feels more easy to control and it's not at buggy as it was back in the original.
I really like this game. The controls are pretty tight and I love the art style. My favorite games growing up were TY and Rachet and Clank so 3rd person platformers are a love for me. For someone to do it well and be memorable is difficult. I've always been a playstation and nintendo person so I am glad to here it has made it's way onto the switch since I have never owned an xbox. Now I just wish sunset overdrive would too because Insomniac games!

One off the best game on Switch. It is so nice and crisp.
Platformers are probably my favourite genre but I found this game pretty poor, I found it so tedious to play. Nothing to do with it being aimed at children because so are many platformers, it’s just slow mechanics make it boring, majority of levels are boring, graphics are nice though.
Do yourself a favour and get Yook-Laylee and the Impossible Lair.
