Thank you so much. I just learned more than any Dr I’ve seen. I have sciatica n it affects all my left back side of my leg down to my foot. Which has caused me to have foot issues. Seen a podiatrist who told me my foot issue had nothing to do with sciatica 😒. Which it does. I’ve developed new foot issues because of my sciatica. I’ve never had a drs ever explain it so well like you have.
I knew I had spinal stenosis, so I recently had an MRI, because I want to know exactly what is wrong. My family doctor said the results showed spinal stenosis, which I already knew! I have an appointment with a NS later this month. I have numbness in both feet and legs. I cannot stand for very long without my lower back killing me. Also, can't walk very far at all. Sitting or laying is fine (Except feet are always numb laying). You are very informative! I will definitely know better what is going on after I see the NS.
I have the exact same thing. I was seen by several surgeons. Right now, I'm deciding which one I like better (I'm from South Jersey). I'm told I need surgery for sure, but need to decide whether I go with the surgeon who suggested an Xlif, or the surgeon who suggested a traditional full fusion with laminectomy. Either way, the symptoms are horrible. It ruins your whole quality of life.
Yes, it is horrible! I still haven't seen the NS, but he has a great reputation. I am praying for an easy fix, but who knows. Years ago my brother had some spinal stenosis (I don't know what it consisted of) and he said when he got out of bed his legs would absolutely kill him. He had a MRI and saw a surgeon. The surgeon told him only surgery would cure him. My brother said he wanted to wait. The doctor told him that he'd be back. He took the films to his chiropractor and asked if he could help him. The Chiropractor said he thought he could but no promises, but it would be rough and my brother would be sore. My brother went for 7 visits and has not had the problem again, and that was many years ago. My brother is in his 70's now and works every day! Oh, how I wish mine could be that easy!! I looked up the Xlif and that sounds better to me. I am all for "minimally invasive! "Praying whatever you decide goes well for you. It's a scary decision for sure. @@SuzanneWaltimyer
I sure do and standing and walking the past 2 days was awful! I have lost bar and cervical stenosis and bulging discs. Ouch! I’ve had 2 surgeons immediately suggest lumbar laminectomy and fusion without less severe treatments first. I refused. I see our NUCCA QSM3 chiropractic weekly and he very gently aligns my spine.
Dr testosterone is the best anti inflammatory in the body,,when my husband tested very low and due to severe back pain he jumped on board within months all his pain was gone when he was very limited in his daily activities,,why are drs not using this more for inflammation,,his life has been given back to him,,thx for your wonderful videos
Great informative videos without trying to sell some product or course. I would be interested to see a video on failed back surgery (or increased leg pain a few years after surgery) and considerations for additional surgery (e.g., would there be a difference in surgical recommendations for foraminal stenosis if there was a prior laminectomy at the same level).
2 EMGs indicate L5 radiculopathy for my leg/foot symptoms, but MRI does not show any disc issue, stenosis, or any other obvious cause. Can muscles or other tissues cause nerve irritation, symptoms are on and off but have continued for 6 months. Thanks.
Good morning Doc, my wife was diagnosed with stenosis (compressed spinal cord) and calcification and doctors recommended laminoctomy instead of laminaplasty. Do you have additional thoughts with having calcification?
I have spinal stenosis and severe sciatica to the point that my lower body gets numb. When I walk, I hurt so bad that I sweat profusely from the tip of my head down. I have done epidural treatments and prednisone. I get relief with the prednisone but once its over, the pain comes right back. Physical therapy actually makes me hurt worse. I only want surgery if it will help. I just want to walk like a human again 😢
I have had 4 epidural cortisone tnjections 3 have not worked Had EMG and NCS and it shows abnormalities in s1 and below. Just had new one in sacral joint so can’t tell yet . If this injection works does it stop numbness and tingling which goes all the way under the foot? Enjoy your program the best on You Tube!
I have radicular pain most in my feet while lying down nd it does get better while walking i think it might bee SI joint i am pretty sure i have S 1 nerve root compression
Dr. Su, how do you feel about Xlif procedure vs. traditional laminectomy/fusion for LSS with spondy. I am embarking on which one I should trust. I just don't know what to do. Rothman vs. U Penn. I need your opinion, PLEASE, I know I need the surgery, but which one ? Is XLIF trustworthy enough?
It depends on the situation. You should watch the playlist on degenerative spondylolisthesis. You can also call 415-925-8200 for a video appointment with me
Hi Doctor Su, I am 69 years old. I have battled sciatica-like pain and numbness in my legs and feet (yes, both legs and feet, but the right leg and foot is much worse than the left) for about 5 years now. I have had numerous MRIs done in that time span, and none show any issue with the spine that would compromise the nerve(s). My neurologist referred me to pain management since she and the spine surgeon could not find anything wrong with the spine and disks. I did not have a Magnetic resonance neurogram. Is this procedure pretty standard in the imaging industry now? Would it possibly confirm the existence of SI joint pain? Piriformis syndrome? In the right leg, my pain begins in the upper buttock, and all the way down to the foot. Numbness in the foot, bottom and side. Thanks.
Hi Dr. Su, can leaked fluids from painful degenerative discs seen at L4/l5 and l6/s1 (I have an extra vertebrae) cause bilateral radiculopathy all the way into my foot? No nerve compression was seen on my MRI but stretching my hamstrings significantly triggers my radiculopathy symptoms. Thank you
@DrBrianSuTheSpineGuy Thank you! I already watched your videos. I tried to take ibuprofen but it caused stomach pain. Can I cure this without surgery with lots of walking and exercise?
A fun observation: radiculopathy. You introduced this term in the cervical stenosis video. I was amused because you pronounced it rIdiculopathy. As in Ridiculous. Maybe it's a ridiculous procedure. I hope not..

Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Very informative.
Really impressive... Thanks doctor stay blessed
Excellent Video, very informative! I thought I know a lot about sciatica but your explanation is so clear and easy to understand...Thumb Up ...Dr. Su!

=o)
Low back pain can be cured by doing exercises.
Ou physically have to be able to do the exercises,,back pain can cripple you from doing anything especially exercise
@joeblow9548 I know last summer I could barely walk when I was getting up in the morning.

Please can you discuss the rhizotomy procedure?
What the episode on lumbar facet joint syndrome.

My L4 L5 disk incapcelated raped around my sciatica nerve and took 4 years and a milagram to find out what was going on, I've had 4 back surgerys
I have Sciatica for 4 years now 😪& I’m finally getting injections done Monday I’m so nervous 😬 there anything I need to know?
Watch the lumbar epidural video
I hope they work for you but they did nothing for me. I don't know what else to do. 😢
How did it go?
so when do you think surgery is really needed and if this can make someone loose leg function..
When conservative care fails and when it affects your physical quality of life

Yes it can.
Have you ever heard of anterior thoracic herniated calcified disc?
Yes

Watch the video series on cervical stenosis and spinal cord compression

hi doc, i have levoscoliosis. whats the remedy everytime if hurts? thank you. have a nice day.....
It depends if it's causing leg or back pain. You should consult with a surgeon
Hey Doctor can do you do an Intradiscal Spinal Injection for a phfrirrman grade 6??
I would have to take a look at the imaging you can make a virtual appointment by calling 415-925-8200
Thanks for the very thorough explanation!! The surgeon I consulted with didn't provide any helpful info.

Yes it can certainly stop that if it's coming from the nerve
I have radicular pain most in my feet while lying down nd it does get better while walking i think it might bee SI joint i am pretty sure i have S 1 nerve root compression
@@DrBrianSuTheSpineGuy what will be the permanent solution Sir
Do you think that chiroprecter can help with that
@pritpalsingh1960 I would definitely get an MRI to check L5-S1 disc. Most likely disc Buldge or disc herniation.

Sometimes a high intensity zone which is a tear in the back of the disc can cause chemical irritation to the surrounding nerve.
Do you take appointments in person?
Yes you can call 415-925-8200 for a virtual appointment or in person
Could anti-inflammatory injection *calcium-gluconate mixed with ascorbic acid* cure evil cyst and all these issues? What do you think Doctor?
That is not typically an evidence-based approach
Dear Dr. Su,
I have a cyst between L5 and L4. Can it cause sciatica? Because when it hurts it started to spread to my knees.
Thank you!
Yes please watch the playlist on lumbar synovial cyst
