- This is a video I made in response to the lack of well made car mounting systems for the iPad2, I made this after walking around home depot and lowes for a few hours on my day off from work.
Below is a list of parts used:
-OmniLite series flat panel mount OL50C cantilever mount for 13" - 32" flat panels. (1)
-Stanley braces, 2"x1/2" (4)
-Promag, round neo magnets. (4)
-3m poster strips. (4)
-Crownbolt, machine screws, #12-14x1-1/2". (2)
try using Sugru to attach metal to the back of your iPad. Instead of those large rectangles of metal, next time you take a lid off a can, get some tin snips or heavy duty scissors and cut the lid into small circles or squares. Then mould the Sugru to cover the sharp edges. You've got a good idea there, it just needs a little finesse.
@bigvedo
@bigvedo I totally disagree. The mount you're talking about (infiniapps) uses a suction type mount and who would risk breaking an Ipad due to disk loosing suction? This vid shows some real innovation and am impressed how cleverly everything came togeher. I really appreciate how the author listed the items and where to get them. The trick is to modify the mount where it can be taken off when not needed yet maintain its sturdiness and utility.
great idea. like your idea on the heat shrink to hold magnets, with no metal on metal.
Love your idea magnets and all. I think I will do the same only add a little Velcro for extra security and peace of mind...I don't always drive the limit :) thanks its guys like you that give the big companies ideas to make a mint on!
It is mounted to the one piece plastic dash that contains most of the components you see, ie. odometer, radio, glove box. ect. ect.
It has not yet, nor do I think it will ever fall off when driving, its pretty secure, also I've used it while off roading with no ill effects.
I did research other car mounts, and found them to be ether offering to mount where I had no interest in mounting, or flimsy mounts. I needed something that would hold well.
I realize its not for everyone. thanks!
Great concept, haters gonna hate.
@wachmyvids
sorry to hear, i'm guessing you attached it to a faceplate of some kind. I though of this and opted for the main dash as it would hold the weight far better and be much more sturdy.
Nice video
I love you, from now on I will call you dad! =D You are my roll model of macgyver solutions! =D Keep up the good work and cheers from Sweden =]
not bad, however would like to remind that neodime magnets influence electronics inside of the iPad quite strong, firstly memory modules. don't be surprised when your data gets lost
Very clever.
Pic quality could be better but I think overall better than store aide
This awesome! and I was just gonna say the same thing as the guy below about the case, otherwise I'm DEFINITELY doing this for my iPad! lol
Great video thank you for your time
@periannpo This is a great idea, I had been looking for some kind of sticky metal sheets I could stick to the back. And did not even think to just make them my self.
I'll have to make a vid if it all works well.
I like it. ignore these haters
Not Ryan Reynolds, I think you sound like Dane Cook!, Anyway, I like this mount.
One major flaw! Could it cause a major car accident when u should be watching the road and not messing around with Angry Birds?
wooow,...I was kinda disappointed that you didn't use wood screws and zip ties, that would have finished this off nicely. Whats to stop this household HDTV mount from flopping around while turning or hitting bumps? a bungee cord? lol
I have to agree with Redsfanatic19.... I came here expecting an "inexpensive" mount that 1) wouldn't destroy your dash and 2) wouldn't require spending MORE than the majority of existing non-destructive mounts that are readily available on the market....
It's definitely solid.. but at what real cost, to both the car and your pocketbook.
I'm sorry for the lack of responses to this video, I'll try to wrap up some of the questions I've been asked posed.
Yes, it is ugly when not in use. I would have liked it to be a bit more design friendly, though I needed it to be functional. and thats all I really had in mind when making it.
Magnets have no affect on the ipad, or other electronics that have static memory, which is to say they do not use a spinning hard drive. thus - safe.
how about getting a case, similar to the trident kraken, and just stick earth magnets in the case?
Smart!
I LIKED IT cuz it was cheap sure i wouldnt put it in my brand new vehicle but for a beater of course
I cant believe that he went thru all this trouble and then ended up with a horrible car mount. I dont think anybody wants mounting brackets on his ipad, same with drilling holes into a car dash. Infiniapps makes a magnetic car mount that does a way better job and costs less.
Magnets and a tablet...?
i did it after watching this but i think i did it wrong cause it fell of after going over a bump and cracked lol
That shit is floating
You sound like Ryan Renalds.
lol $60 for the mount that you have to ghetto drill onto your interior? yikes man, you said cheap.. oh wait, you said cheep
I wouldn't recommend drilling holes in your dashboard lol
Store made
Flash memory is not affected by magnets dude haha
wow I think I would rather have it sit in my lap then put a tv mount in my dash that looks like crap when the ipad isn't on it I personally think this is horrible and have seen a lot of DIY ipad installs that are cheaper and better looking. But if you enjoy it that's all that matters but stay away from my car lol
$60?? waste of money. Cheaper ipad car mounts on ebay or amazon without the hassle and time consuming. Let alone the drilling of holes in your car. my opinion
$60 for the mount? Why not just buy a iPad car mount for less or equal the price? Lol so I guess you can mount the iPad on the refrigerator, outside the car, even your forehead! I think I have an idea on how to steal your iPad jk jk lol. I feel walking around with magnets attached on an iPad looks bad.
fell off after a bump lol
DAMN, you spent all the money of a mount, and ruined the dash board, and its still doesnt hold the ipad ! SUPER FAIL ! you can get suction cup universal mounts on amazon for 10 bucks!
nice spelling.
Creative, but no for me. Good luck lol
