1:25-1:39 Actually, Ohtani only composed and remixed half of Colors' OST. In Ultimate, he remixed Tropical Resort, Starlight Carnival and Aquarium Park. Sweet Mountain, Planet Wisp and Asteroid Coaster were remixed by Kenichi Tokoi. Therefore, the Planet Wisp remixes didn't have Ohtani's influence.

Kenichi Tokoi (the composer of the original versions of Asteroid Coaster, Planet Wisp, and Sweet Mountain) has remixed these song for ultimate. Not Tomoya Ohtani. Meanwhile, Ohtani remixed the songs he composed like Tropical Resort, Starlight Carnival and Aquarium Park.
@@clarasanchez9565 I think it does to be honest. The original segments represent the nature of Planet Wisp and the more electric remixed parts represent Eggman's takeover of the planet and its mechanical elements. At least that's what I gather from it.
I think I'm one of the very few people who like the Planet Wisp Act 1 remix. I 100% agree with why people like the original more, but idk, I just find it funny how it sounds like everyone's about to have a party.
24:30 If I haven’t heard this song before and someone told me that it was a FamilyJules cover of Terminal Velocity Act 1, I would believe you. That remix is that good!
Maybe just as a musician myself, I'd have put Sweet Mountain 3 a lot higher. Not necessarily because of the music itself, but just 'cause it does a really good job taking what the original did and building on it with little new ideas -- without going so far that it turns into a tug of war between the old and the new. It just does what a remix is supposed to do very well, and I guess I appreciate that. And to me Wisp 2 feels more like a new "Wisp" track than it feels like a remix of the old act 2. While they've got some of the same parts, they're mixed into the song in a way that feels so completely different that comparing it to the original act 2 feels almost like comparing the original act 2 song to act 1 or act 3. It manages to do that without feeling like it's fighting itself the way the act 1 remix did, which is nice I suppose. And, yeah, Terminal Velocity 1 blew me away too, the moment it started up :)
I think Mr Pasquale's Music of Sonic Colors Ultimate give a good example of Colors Ultimate music for how okay (not bad or good) these remixes sounds like.
Planet Wisp Act 1 may not be the worst in the lineup, But it's by far my least favorite due to Just how much of a clear misunderstanding there is of what the stage was even supposed to represent. The original was a great showcase of musical storytelling, You had the serene piano and strings to represent nature, slowly being overtaken by the harsh guitar and drums to represent The encroaching industrialization covering up that natural beauty. You shouldn't be listening to freaking dubstep while running through Planet Wisp Act 1. There's a complete dissonance here. (Wrote this before your entry. So yeah pretty much exactly what you said. Lmao)
We'd be here all day discussing why we agree or disagree with Pup (that or trying to discuss "music terminology"), so I'll say that my only critique is that there's no mention of Kenichi Tokoi. The bass in his compositions (Sweet Mountain, Planet Wisp, Asteroid Coaster, Terminal Velocity) is so crisp. The man just really excels at brass and bass, and each track he composed for Colors had these little tasty nuances (that Ultimate unfortunately did not include). I have no problem with everyone saying "bring Jun back" especially since he is the best composer for the franchise, but Tokoi gets slept on a lot, and he's been involved almost as long as Jun. Adventure, Unleashed, and Colors' soundtracks are as good as they are thanks to him......and several others, but that's an essay discussion. Good video though. SCU's soundtrack has been on my mind lately and today was the right time to hear someone else talk about it.

Nothing can top the ost on the DS version. The way the DS made the tracks sound it just gave them all a bit more flavor. Maybe it's my nostalgia talking but I liked the DS version of the ost the best.
i personally have no nostalgia for the ds version but i like it doesnt feel like "just an inferior version of the regular ost" it feels like its own thing, which makes it fun to listen to over the original sometimes

I absolutely hate Tropical Resort Act 1, Planet Wisp Act 1, and all the Sweet Mountain remixes. I also don't care much for the Aquarium Park remixes. Everything else is good. Especially everything Jun Senoue did.
In my opinion, I think the new version of Planet Wisp is better than the original. I know a lot of people prefer the piano from the original version, but I love how the new version got more beats

Ohtani did Act 2 of Starlight carnival. The other acts were by Jun Senoue.
