More than 2000 years old beekeeping method

Old style skep hive project started today. In this skep hives humans were taking care for their bees and harvesting honey for many centuries before today’s modern practices. Remaining time to succeeds is 60 days, I hope they will build up until end of September.

I find this interesting. I would like to know how much stores a skep uses over winter in comparison to other hives. I have two related questions/thoughts. Why was this colony robbed out in the first place - was it weak because of a fault in the queen's ability to lay enough eggs to make it grow or for another reason? Also, it seems like it would have a much better chance if it had about 15,000 workers to build the comb needed to overwinter and make winter bees - I wonder if you are able to shake more bees into it? It will be interesting to see what happens.

This was a nucs colony in my warre hive boxes, just started to develop , drought started and other stronger hives started to rob it. I decided to save it in this skep and will shake more bees in 2-3 days to build up faster. Think to see how will pass the winter with 15 kg stores.
