Three Minutes in International Falls, Minnesota

The town of International Falls is located on the banks of the Rainy River, the border between the US and the Canadian province of Ontario. A sign on town's water tower proclaims it to be "the Icebox of the Nation," thanks to its average of 109 days each year when local temperatures do not rise above 0 degrees Celsius. The population of International Falls, estimated at around 5.700 in 2021, has been steadily dropping since 1990, largely as a result of the loss of jobs in the pulp and paper mill, the town's largest employer.
