I don't really network, I volunteer. That's how I've gotten most jobs. Applying and being disregarded for being overqualified really killed my spirit so I try to avoid that. Barbra Sher says isolation is the dream killer and I truly believe that. What I would like is an accountability group for building entrepreneurship consistency/discipline or a MasterMind group for new entrepreneurs.
Thank you for sharing. That’s what’s missing! There are so many people that we see who are successful already but rarely does anyone talk about the hard parts or show the journey to making it. Or master classes are higher ticket in terms of costs. And I get it, knowledge costs, but it’s disheartening sometimes when you’re not able to afford it. Talking about volunteering, I also tried to apply for internships in hopes of getting my foot in the door, but I was told because I have work experience, (just not in marketing), they decided to go with a new grad instead. Im switching up my approaches but moving forward, I am taking a chance on myself. Even with me reaching out to old clients, I was able to get a gig. Entrepreneurship is the answer. Even if it’s a side project/hustle. I hope that being transparent can help someone.
Please speak with a few senior level, black female in marketing... one should be a consultant. Invite them to coffee and have an information interview. I think that you need a senior person to tell you what it really means to "make it" in NYC in highly competitive fields. Btw, senior level is not your peer but someone with 10, 15+ more years ahead of you in the industry.
Thank you for this advice. I know it will help others also. A 1:1 coffee chat sounds less intimidating in comparison to networking events that have 100+ people. While I plan on going to a few more just to get some leads, there are a few women I have came across online. I’ve started to reach out. I figured at this point it can’t hurt haha. Thanks again!
YUP. For the first time in my life, I'm not even applying for jobs as a "backup", I am going full force with my wellness business. It's been a rocky road tbh but I'm not giving up because I am DEDICATED to making this a success and achieving financial freedom while creating a life that I truly LOVE by design.
I love this for you ! Are you a wellness coach or you sell product ? It definitely will be rocky in the beginning as you get your footing and navigate but it will work out. It’s what makes the most sense in this time.
That was a such rough time. It’s interesting to see how things have changed, but are still rocky because of the economy etc. Hope things are better for you now !
I cant even count the times we basicaly gave high five to each other at the interwiev and they ve welcomed me onboard and then week passes, i reach out to them and guess what...i never heard from them again. True story
I’m so sorry! That is the worst. I just don’t understand getting someone’s hopes up only to not respond. I get going with another candidate but keep the interview neutral.
I had the thought a few days ago to start posting to my tiktok page (while tiktok is still in the US), and you just confirmed what I was thinking. Thank you sm!
I’m wishing you so much success with your business! You will absolutely thrive after this
Thank you so much for your positive words! 💕

We know how the seniors “make it” in corporate America and you make it by submitting and kissing ass, not by working hard
This "senior" person doesnt have to be a particular race. It doesnt mean that they are trust worthy or care about you.
@@MB-xv7er Exactly!. They do their bosses dirty work.
