I was and it was epic. This movie was amazing then. Now it's silly. Mind blowing back then. Now this kind of stuff is all over the internet lol. Parellel universes, time travel and stuff like that has become normal.
Donnie Darko is an amazingly dark (but hopeful) movie, that went over everybody's head their first time seeing it. I've never felt compelled to draw diagrams to try to better understand a movie's plot before. Brilliantly dark movie!
Oh man sometimes I wish I was a teen when Donnie Darko released instead of now. Times then must have been different then than how they are now. Also I would feel way less guilty crushing on Jake Gyllenhaal.
He’s worked ever since he was a boy I on the other hand had a job as a cleaner 5 years ago and I was lucky to even get that job in the first place Cleaning toilets 🚽
Well, there's a Hollywood tradition of older actors playing high school kids, and in many cases they've been much older than this - sometimes hilariously so :). Gyllenhaal was a _little_ old, but I think he pulled it off ok. His sister was also playing underage, since she would have been 23 or 24 at the time but in the film she receives her acceptance letter to attend Harvard as an undergraduate.
Donnie Darko is the only movie I've ever watched twice consecutively. I remember the movie ending, I sat through the entire credit scroll, thinking about what I just saw, then rewound my VHS and rewatched it in its entirety again. I was almost in a trance. Every character is interesting, every scene has intrigue, I havent found a movie that has hit me like my first initial viewings of Donnie Darko, and I am proud to call it my favorite movie. It's 100% a masterpiece.
unfortunately Donnie Darko was released after a very bad time in American history (twin towers terrorist attacks ) the tone and timing was not right for theatre going , thanks to DVD it got a huge fan base.
Jake Gyllenhaal was a total hottie when he was a teen, he still is, but I mean I'm 18, wish I could use that time travel. So we could fall in love and have a true love's kiss rather than Jennifer Aniston.
THANK YOU for asking that question. Donnie darko has always had huge impact on me and still continues to be my favorite movie of all time. Listening to Jake reflect on the scene made me just :')
It's funny how what these movies, that he did as a child, represent to him, they mean almost the same to me today. But in his case, he was the damn actor in them! Hell, man. Sorry for my bad english
Donnie Darko is pretty overrated, some people just think anything weird or different is good but it's a cult classic now because most people will find it boring and dumb which is mostly is... Definitely not the worst movie ever but slow and doesn't pay off in the end
Hands down, one of the best Jake Gyllenhaal movies ever!

And Bubble Boy

Oscar worthy performance! 😇
what an awesome movie, i cant imagine any of the other actors not all as emotionally involved as jake. or mr. gyllenhaal for me.
God I wish I could be teenage in those days instead of now.

Doesn't the fact the movie was ahead of it's time only further make it a great film?
sinkiy exactly at least everything back then was less complicated...
Hi! Your comment makes me feel older what I am, 😁
Bárbara E. Sorry...I guess xD

@@miked1869 yeah like Tom Holland and Zendaya at 25 play a 17 yos and they look fine.
@@taka-taktak but tom holland can't pull off a 40 years old role like jake did.& jake was 23/24 at that time..
My favorite movie!!
I absolutely love Donnie Darko. One of my favorite Jake Gyllenhaal films, along with October Sky.

“28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, 12 seconds.. that is when the world will end.”
*why..?*
Donnie: Why do you wear that stupid bunny suit
Frank: Why do you wear that stupid MAN suit
He believes in a thing called love. Just listen to the rhythm of his heart.
He doesn’t fear love like Donnie did
THANK YOU for asking that question. Donnie darko has always had huge impact on me and still continues to be my favorite movie of all time. Listening to Jake reflect on the scene made me just :')
October sky was filmed in my hometown
He seems so nice.
I wish he could've been spider-man, maybe noir in a spider-verse film?
It's funny how what these movies, that he did as a child, represent to him, they mean almost the same to me today. But in his case, he was the damn actor in them! Hell, man.
