- Watch Part 1 of the Record of Decision overview provided by UDOT Trails & Transit Group and Little Cottonwood EIS Project Manager Josh Van Jura to learn more about the selected alternative and Phase 1 implementation.

I’ve watched this process from beginning to end, and while I would’ve liked to have seen a design which eventually replaced all or most private trips with fixed route public transit, this ROD nevertheless provides an excellent (and thoughtfully phased) approach to addressing the problems in Little Cottonwood canyon without “just adding one more lane.” Congrats to the entire UDOT team who worked on this for so long!
I was happy to see that Tolling would only be implemented on high traffic days (weekends and powder days). I think they should also considered reduced Tolls for Electric Vehicles to help reduce air pollution.
I also think they should restrict downhill traffic on high traffic days from 7 - 10 AM and allow buses to use the downhill lane for going up to improve the transit time for the bus, which would also drive more people to use the bus service.
Why not put this on the ballot, seems like in a democracy and as public funding is being used that would make some sense?
Since they threw 90% of the public cements on the trash we need to start a ballot initiative to quash this boondoggle.
Looking forward for public opinion
And there it is.
So glad our tax dollars are being spent to help the resorts get even more money, while limiting our access to public land 👏
The alternative considered was road widening, which would’ve had a much greater impact on public land. The Gondola is not yet funded, and the specifics of who will be paying for it are yet to be determined. If/when the gondola is built it will be cheaper to run than bus service, and (with further study, probably a simple EA or even a CE) those busses could be used to run a shuttle service to canyon trailheads, something that does not currently exist.
"skiing for me but not thee" increasing.
Because… UDOT is improving public transit??
UDOT should be ashamed of this process. $1.4B divided by 3 million Utahns works out to $467 from every man, woman, and child in Utah to pay for this boondoggle, even though a small percentage of Utahns will ever ski in LCC. The only way this could have been rammed through with the complete lack of public support it has is massive corruption. F#$& UDOT.
keeping the canyon for the rich, perfect
In what way is putting frequent bus service in then (eventually) installing fixed route transit “keeping the canyons only for the rich”? Heck, the even mentioned the possibility of further study to do shuttle transit to lower parts of the canyon!
