I am now 21 and I started learning DAX one year ago when I was 20, I really hope to be at your level one day, you are literally what I look forward to be!
Reasons this is amazing: 1. I don't do the tablify-a-single-value hack enough, and this video is a good reminder that it exists. (14:20) 2. The quick tip on breaking lineage of strings and numbers is gold. (19:50) 3. Alberto 'Do-it-in-a-single-take' Ferrari delivers once again. Who needs video editing software when you've got Alberto on the case!?
Thank a Lot! I was actually stucked from past 2 days on Lookup Value, with Generate and your video was just on time for me. Thanks really appreciate your videos & knowledge I gain from them. Chaoo friends ;)
thanks for the video, lots of good fundamentals applied here. On an import situation I would much rather user PQ to join the tables and just load one combined table. Thank you. Happy new years
Of course - this technique should not be used daily, but when you need it (and maybe you cannot use Power Query - for example, you use a live connection...) it's there!
Thank you very much Alberto. I have a question, if we want to do the same with a measure to add it to the table "Sales" in the report, how can we change the script in order to return a single value?
If you need a single value you probably can use LOOKUPVALUE, if you want to display multiple metrics in a single measure result, you have to create a string combining the results using COMBINEVALUES
Marco, I have a table that has 1 column with de document and other column with doc_substitute, how is the better way to join this table with itself using document in the first table and doc_substitute in the second table ?
Thank you for the nice content. I would like to ask if I can use 'summarizecolumns' instead of 'selectcolumns' in the example used in this video? When is it better to use one function against the other?
SUMMARIZECOLUMNS performs both GROUP BY and remove duplicated values, whereas SELECTCOLUMNS does not affect the cardinality of the table source and does not perform any grouping.
Thanks a lot! If I have a date table and a product table linked to both sales and promo tables, does this help to solve the same issue and compute the query faster?
Is it possible in the same code to bring two columns from two different tables? Example: adding a column from the product table and another from the supplier to the sales table.
It depends. You can read the value from columns in different tables (it's one of the examples in the article, follow the link in the description), but in terms of "search" it's not clear what the meaning would be...

The question may be why the two tables do not have a connection in the model in the first place using calculated columns 😁 just kidding, sure the use case will arise soon
Sometimes you cannot - it is not common, but you could have a lookup table using Product Category and Year to get a discount. Just an example, if you can use regular relationships, it's always better!

We still use video editing for some cleanup, but we're not video makers, so we try to optimize by running a single shot when we can! :)
I am Brazilian and I love the classes, an absurd command of the DAX language, it really is at a spectacular level.
You never fail to make me enjoy DAX. you nail it again. Thanks for ways to DAXing.

mind-blowing. Alberto you are fantastic coach, the delivery pace and style is superb
you make worth every cent invested in your Video Courses and outstanding with this youtube video.!!!!
Amazing work. Multiple solutions to a single problem. Thanks.
These videos are very helpful. Keep them coming. Thank you.
Fantastic experience! With best wishes in New Year from Russia!!!
Thanks - Happy New Year too!
enjoying this channel alot! very useful use cases. thank you!
This video introduces more DAX functions, but the main take away is to know which works best after doing a test.. !!
Wow, thats an amazing video. Learned a lot!!! Thanks
Alberto you are always the best
Amazing and very deep training
Happy new year!!!
Very informative video 😊👍👍
Thank you Sir
I am your biggest friend and leaned lots of things from you. Also I have enrolled both of the free courses on SQLBI.COM.
Great stuff ! Thank you. 👍
Great video, thank you.
Instant subscriber :)
Super amazing and I learned a lot.
thank you, Alberto :)

Can we used table variable inside Generate function?

If you can rely on regular relationships, you don't really have to use this technique - which is useful when a regular relationship cannot be used.

It`s a kind of magic!
Again, greate thank you
