Put it this way. The Spurs really wanted Tidjane Salaun at 8. They were so upset he wasn't available that they traded pick 8 for assets 6+ years down the road. Nobody has a better track record with international prospects than the Spurs. The Hornets might have actually gotten ahead of the curve for once.
The spurs are building a a team around a french superstar, have a brilliant track record of developing international players, and have a team need for forward to play next to Wemby, currently Sochan just doesn't fit. The hornets are building around a core of Lamelo, Miller, and Bridges, do not have a track record of international development, and are log-jammed at the forward position. He's young but you're asking him to develop basically every part of his game while also stepping up the difficulty from LNB Pro A to the best league in the world. You don't just draft them and greatness happens, and in my opinion this pick is bad for both the hornets and for Tidjane's development. If we are working a trade with the Spurs this move makes much more sense to me
@shadshad2972, Name one G league Ignite product that's blown up since they were drafted? And you suddenly think Scoot will blossom and surpass Miller? Scoot was ranked one of the worst ball players during the first half of the season, not to mention he's constantly getting injured.
The front office did a lot of work leading to the draft. It seems they went through all the options. Ended up with a guy they were invested in. Jeff P went to see T.S. In France people really believe in him. Crazy potential. Professional cutter. I’m saying it here first: that agile hezi going right is very similar to LaMelo’s signature hezi. Body control is really good and is a confident shooter who’s not afraid of the moment. Great propect.

Salaun is a good pick for someone like the Spurs but really doesn't make sense to me for our team. We don't have a strong track record of international NBA development first of all, and we had a big need at shooting guard. Now we get another PF when we already have too many forwards on the roster, we need to be looking to make some deals. We're projected to start Cody again at SG unfortunately and Salaun might be 4th on the depth chart. If we're not planning on trading the spurs we shouldn't care that they wanted to draft him next, ideally we draft based on team need not based on other teams assumed picks. Dalton Knecht, Killingham or Clingan are all close to sure things in the pros and would have been better picks. Salaun is about as raw as they come, that is like playing the lottery and more likely to bust than hit.
If Coach Lee can mold this kid into even a shadow of the Greek Freak, then its a success in my opinion. I was initially not too happy with the pick but after sleeping on it im really not mad.

Definitely the most surprising pick of the night by any lottery team. If he turns out to be Giannis, then amazing (he kinda looks like him). But this is giving off Bismack/Vonleh vibes at the moment. Hope we didn’t screw the pooch, definitely high risk/high reward. Oh well, time will tell.
Only thing with Bismack is we knew he couldn’t play worth a lick when we drafted him and just looked like a potential defensive stalwart. At least this guy looks like he can play. We will see though. Because I thought Vonleh was more polished than he ultimately was.
Beyond being raw prospects, I don't see the Giannis comparisons. One shoots threes and is pretty bad finishing around the rim. The other is elite finishing at the rim, but can't shoot. What im missing??
Players I've seen in the second round who have size 1) Johnny Furphy SG/SF- 6'8" 2) Bobi Klintman - F- 6'9") 3) Tyler Smith- F- 6'9" 4) Grant Nelson - F- 6'11" 5) Kyle Filipowski F/C- 6'11" 6) Ulrich Chomche F/C- 6'10" 7) Kwame Evans - F- 6'9" Furphy, Klintman, Smith, Filipowski I thought were going to go in the first round possibly. Granted I've not seen some of these prospects and am going to try to go watch a few of them now.
As a Charlotte fan, we should be burned out on this organization, trying to build through the draft and coach up the extremely young core we have on the roster. Deep Playoff teams ultimately who win a championship always have a veteran superstar or 2 and great young pieces that complement them and the rest of the roster is filled with amazing depth Rotational players that Don’t mess up the chemistry when the starters are out. Charlotte needs a superstar veteran and free agency is the only way that’s gonna happen. Until we land that veteran who can change the losing culture here we’re a 20-30 win team. This podcast talks about swinging for the fences. We haven’t swung and hit a Homerun in the draft since Kemba. Hopefully the new ownership and coach tries to take some big swings in free agency in the next few years
It’s not as simple as just going out and signing a superstar veteran. Charlotte is a small market and isn’t exactly a free agent destination for superstar vets.
@@storiesincardboard9420 we haven’t signed a superstar veteran Since Jordan bought the team… and well beyond that. Milwaukee, Cleveland and Toronto have won a championship. I’m tired of hearing it blamed on small market

Out big the long list of NBA superstar veterans that are lined up to sign with Charlotte, who is it that you want the Hornets to sign?

Doesn't speak well for Petersen that he wasn't able to hold the Grizzlies hostage for Clingan to pull some assets out of them. Gotta believe this guy woulda been there at 9. Surely they could foresee the first 5 going like they did, and have a deal waiting in the wings (haha).
Dude, you play the hand you're dealt. Grizzlies wanted Clingan, but obviously they weren't that desperate enough. Zach Edey was their plan B in the worst case scenario. If there was no Edey in this draft, then maybe they might have offered Hornets a deal they couldn't refuse
Lamelo Ball has 1 more shot with me to show he can lead Charlotte to the playoffs. I use to love the 90s Charlotte Hornets I think it was that court that caught my attention an the excitement with Curry Bogues Rice LJ Vlade Zo Mason Kendall Gill Hersey Hawkins all the notables from that mid to late 90s Charlotte team so it would be cool to see them bounce back now. Have the Hornets ever played in a conference Finals? It's time Hornet fans. Go Hornets!
To be honest I don’t like the pick I originally wanted the guy who went first but we dropped to sixth in the lottery. I was hoping for someone who could shoot but this guy has basically played professionally for 2 years and he has size is mobile and plays defense so if he can develop a consistent shot and they resign Bridges the Hornets could have a big starting lineup. Ball, Miller, Bridges, Salaun, Williams could be fun to watch
Haven’t watch the video yet but dying to know what the trade offers were. Allegedly Memphis was sending Marcus smart & the #9 pick for #6. Maybe the hornets felt the spurs would have snagged Salaün at #8 for the French connection. Portland wanted Clinglan bad, sucks we couldn’t swing a deal for their #7 & #14 picks. We could have gotten Salaün & Knecht. Would have been a huge WIN!
Marcus Smart would have been the prize in that deal. Him, Grant and Mark would have been a good defensive core, plus smart would bring much needed leadership.
Salaune>Risacher just me and who I like. So is who agrees or disagrees. but hornets fans just know yall got one of them ones. I keep telling all my NBA dynasty co members that this dude is gonna be the difference maker with what they’re building in charlotte. With barely knowing anything about him, I already like him better than them. Kai would’ve been alright, just a nutjob. I don’t know what they ever saw in Bouk or Thor to begin with.
what are you talking about? How do you say the player is a mystery and you’ve barely heard of him; but in the same breath say he’s not ready to help towards winning?? He was a lottery pick for a reason 🤡
I'm sorry, but if Reed Sheppard was on the Hornets Big Board someone should be fired. They have height and length, and they need to continue height and length.

What im missing??
it's a body comparison not a game comparison
Remind me JT Thor actually, could this time developed to the player that expected…
If they had listened to Cliff, we would have been in the finals during the kemba years.
Makes me feel way better that he loves Salaun.
I'm a huge fan of Nikola Djurasic. I feel like he's a perfect fit and potentially vastly underrated
@@russellleamy7938 You may be tired of hearing it but it’s a real reason. Big time superstars have no desire to sign with a small market team even if the owners are willing to cut the check. You may be a Hornets fan but that doesn’t mean the superstar you want to sign to come here is. It’s real life.
Out big the long list of NBA superstar veterans that are lined up to sign with Charlotte, who is it that you want the Hornets to sign?
Trade for them. K. Leonard didn't want to be in Toronto.
Toronto hoisted a chip.
Let’s make the fire in the crowd baby!
Fans: This draft class is weak, we don’t care who we draft
Team: Drafts player with high upside
Fans: WhY wOuLd YoU dO tHaT, ThErE wErE sO mAnY gOoD pLaYeRs LeFt!!!!!
The avg 3pt percentage for point guards in the NBA is 37% so I might would argue that's pretty good for someone so damn long 😂
He has as much upside as anyone in this draft and I’ll take that at pick 6!!!
Im looking at Odom Lite Version!
Walker is right, we are pretty cool.
yes we want to win now...if melo, mark, miller... year 5 , 3 and 2.... keep miles.... its time to win now...we need 40 or more wins, to keep fans engaged.
With this pick we’re getting ready for the “lean” years
Was hoping for Dalton Knect but I See the potential in this pick
They zigged when the league zagged
Let hope live on i been hoping since i was 13 n 1988
His offencive rebounding is the key to unlock his potential
Doesn't speak well for Petersen that he wasn't able to hold the Grizzlies hostage for Clingan to pull some assets out of them. Gotta believe this guy woulda been there at 9. Surely they could foresee the first 5 going like they did, and have a deal waiting in the wings (haha).
It was pretty likely the Spurs were taking him at 8 which is why they traded the pick after Hornets drafted him
Dude, you play the hand you're dealt. Grizzlies wanted Clingan, but obviously they weren't that desperate enough. Zach Edey was their plan B in the worst case scenario.
If there was no Edey in this draft, then maybe they might have offered Hornets a deal they couldn't refuse
No, the Spurs were 100% taking him at 8. Him not being their is why they traded the 8th pick themselves
Go Hornets!
Y’all don’t check Hoopshype? They said who it was gonna be mid-day. I thought it was smoke
Now the Hornets should draft Harrison Ingram in the second round
Cold open went crazy on this one
We will forever live in The Lottery bro. 💯🤦🏾♂️
Bring the 🔥!
Were y'all tired this morning? What a night! Lots of scrambling to figure out more about Salaun.
OMG, Jake fumbled so hard! Embarrassing bro
anyone know why they called kevin o’conner kevin o’con-man?
Haven’t watch the video yet but dying to know what the trade offers were. Allegedly Memphis was sending Marcus smart & the #9 pick for #6. Maybe the hornets felt the spurs would have snagged Salaün at #8 for the French connection. Portland wanted Clinglan bad, sucks we couldn’t swing a deal for their #7 & #14 picks. We could have gotten Salaün & Knecht. Would have been a huge WIN!
If that's the case (smart plus 9) then I just lost all hope of things being competent under the new regime.
Marcus Smart would have been the prize in that deal. Him, Grant and Mark would have been a good defensive core, plus smart would bring much needed leadership.
Pull up in my Rolls Royce: par don me, would you perhaps have any Tidjane Saluan?
But of course!!!
Salaune>Risacher just me and who I like. So is who agrees or disagrees. but hornets fans just know yall got one of them ones. I keep telling all my NBA dynasty co members that this dude is gonna be the difference maker with what they’re building in charlotte. Bridges is as good as gone even though he already was being shopped and he shot the pistons trade down last season. I like what charlottes building ALOT
Wanted the kid from Tennessee but who knows. Not a fan of taking the left over (3rd French player) normally it’s the 2nd or 3rd best Kentucky player
Not saying anything so many were against miller and look at him now
Hear me out, I can see a Terance Mann ceiling Comp 😐🤔😏
Doug I need a beat 🔥🔥🔥
“aNd i tHiNk iT wAs” 👹
I’m fine with the pick, I’d rather have him that Knecht
Unexpectec.
If Tidjane Salaun wins ROTY, Doug should shave his head. 😂
HOR FANS come back to this in 3 yrs
Did same “developing” wit KAI BOUK THOR
Goodluck in Swarm.
stop scaring me with the past
With barely knowing anything about him, I already like him better than them. Kai would’ve been alright, just a nutjob. I don’t know what they ever saw in Bouk or Thor to begin with.
what are you talking about? How do you say the player is a mystery and you’ve barely heard of him; but in the same breath say he’s not ready to help towards winning?? He was a lottery pick for a reason 🤡
I'm sorry, but if Reed Sheppard was on the Hornets Big Board someone should be fired. They have height and length, and they need to continue height and length.
long as he isn't Kai Jones ...who they did not develop correctly.
Players aren't computers that you can just get in there and upgrade the RAM. It takes player buy-in. --db
@LockedOnHornets ill give you that, just saying he is similar build and young age, hoping his desire to work and want success separates him, because the physical traits are ideal.
Would love to sign Patrick Williams and trade for Brandon Ingram.
Walker you R Da Man U Asked Da Question aThat We Needed Too Know💯 I'm Black N I Like Too See A *Black GM & Black Coach TOO BE HONEST!💯* But imma give this GM a CHANCE jus Sayin I wanted Matas Buzelis but it's good
Jalen Bridges would be a nice pickup, watched him for two years at wvu before transferring to baylor, has a nice shot...kind of 3 and D guy.
Jalen bridges is who i want he a 6"7 SG/SF that can shoot and play defense and guard 1-3 postions dude shooting 41.3% from the 3 point line last year at Baylor
Im cool with it, this draft was ass and nothing was forsure.
I hate this pick should have got dalton or clingan
Prime Dwyane Wade couldn't save this franchise....they are so bad
KJ Simpson = Reed Shepard Lite?
Another rebuilding season
Beat was a banger❤
Cold open went crazy on this one
