2:25. Hi! I feel that I have to address these products "going bad" myth. It's being perpetuated by 100's of UA-camrs and I don't know why. It is FALSE information. I think it started when someone noticed that their body cream was "lumpy". Then someone else said there's had "yellowed".
I graduated from the Syracuse School of Hair design in 1990, took an internship at the REDKEN Labs in Manhattan, majoring in Color Theory Chemistry and Perfumery. I've interned at BPCM in Chelsea NY, working with Micas and Essential and Fragrance oils, and their effects on natural butters such as Shea and Mango. Ok, that's out of the way.
Bath and Body Body Creams have no less than Nine preservatives in them, 9! They will last for years and years. I have some that are 6 years old, and I use them all the time. The reason the creams turn yellow is because of they're Vanilla content. BBW, even listed under a chemical name meaning it's synthetic, uses tons of vanilla. Vanilla turns yellow when exposed to air. This is called oxidation. It does not affect the scent, or emollient properties. It just looks ugly. The way to correct this, and I believe it's cost effective measure on their part, is too leave a Stabilizer out, which would prevent the discoloration. When I make soap with vanilla in it, I have to add a stabilizer. I guess they don't see that as a problem. It only makes you buy more!
Now the "lumpiness". This is merely due to the fact that Water, Petroleum, Shea, Eugenol, Cetyl, Behenyl, and Benzyl Alcohols, Ferments of, Magnesium, Silicon, Zinc, Copper and Iron, Do not play well together! They will remain mixed for 6 to 8 months, after that they will begin to separate. This, like the yellow coloring, does not affect the Scent or the Moisturization properties of the product. It just looks ugly.
A UA-camr who I will not identify, said she called corporate, and they told her that the creams last up to two years..Of course they did! She's lucky they didn't tell her ONE year! Indulge me for one more moment, please. Queen of the Girl Geeks, don't take this as an attack on your channel. Spread the info! I just have to put this crazy wildfire rumor to rest!
This is how you fix your Creams. Cup of hottest tap water you can get. Soak tube in it for 5 or 10 minutes. Take out, and squeeze all the air out. Then go to town with massaging, shaking, whatever you wanna do. I watch TV. Open, use, and VOILA! Easy Peasy!! Spread the truth people! Either that, or send me all your "bad" creams!

I have a body Cream that's super old, it started to smell slightly rancid just a few weeks ago. I use it as a foot lotion prior to going to bed. Smooth soft feet♡
I've purchased several "bad" lotions at garage sales. If they smell good, I simply shake and massage bottle till the contents are no longer separated. Lop my husband says I cheap...I love a bargain & great finds♡♡
I always just shake up the lumpy ones and they’re fine. I never notice much of a difference in scent over time

The "pour" date is actually on these, read the same way as candles with the first number being the year, and the next three being the day. It's hard to see because it's imprinted in the plastic itself, but it's located on the back of the bottle, at the very top (tip of the wide sharp horizontal edge) in the middle. For instance, the Gingerbread Latte Body cream I just got online has 927383B1A so that means it was poured on the 273rd day of 2019. I find body creams only last about 1 1/2 -2 yrs max-otherwise they smell like plastic when they dry down.
The body lotions pour dates are stamped in black on the bottom of the bottle itself-same concept. Even though they definitely aren't as moisturizing, their scent lasts a few years!

I used all mine that had gone bad as shaving cream. And 5 years later, I still have about 8 tubes left! (Those were from when they were branded as "triple moisture cream" so the formula might have improved over the years- hopefully!) Great video, and I love your hair color!

That's how I store my creams in too! Another reason why I like the creams they take up less room then the lotions.
When not in rotation I store them in a spot that's out of sunlight. I also cover them up. I hide them between a chair and bookshelf to keep them cool. It's little hard to do in summer because my room gets hot and I don't have AC. 🥵
In spite of that I haven't had a cream go bad yet. I do try to use up my older products first.

The ultra shea body creams are my FAVORITE items ever. I'm currently only using 4 different scents (and I have a back up of each): on the waves, almond blossom, sleep/black chamomile and balance/juniper and coriander. They're so good!!

The ultra shea creams are my favorite product. I love using them on the bottoms of my feet after showering and putting socks on for the night. I have had a few curdle up on me and turn yellow. I had them stored in too hot of a spare room.

Cheapo me I not getting rid of my changing creams I usually break mine down in hot water and pour into my bubble bath but I try not to buy ones I don't like but i do grow tired of some. I spend so much time smelling to be sure that I like it but I do have plenty I can't get around to that I'm working towards and they do tend to take on a buttermilk undertone later on but no one seems to notice but me if i wear one people say it smells okay. You've got great storage.

Awwww i love large bbw collections. But, I cannot afford NOT to use them. But for some reason I can always buy MORE. With that said, I am glad the SAS doesn't have anymore 75% off lotions/CREAMS that I like. NOT going to be buying anymore...for now, hopefully.

I know from experience, sometimes you can only really tell a scent is turning by the dry down. I hope one day BBW can reformulate their creams to last longer, yet without all the parabens they add to their lotions. It’s really unfortunate how quickly they go bad. I really prefer them but had to stop purchasing them years ago because I didn’t go through them quickly enough. A lot of times we purchase a winter scent at SAS to use next Christmas, but a cream typically won’t last until then.
That shouldn't be. BBW always says that their products have a two year shelf life. I never buy their products for myself. All of them contain essential oils now, and those are unsafe for pets (although dogs can tolerate small amounts of some oils ).
Mine tend to get goopy, then I toss them.

@@avamelia7410 Please make sure that you do not have antibacterial products or skin cream on your hands when you pet your cats. Nearly all antibacterial products contain propylene glycol, which is toxic to both cats and dogs. There are very few oils (including cooking oils, fragrance and flavoring oils, skin care creams and oils, and essential oils) that are not toxic to cats and birds. As a rule, if it is powder, keep it off your cat. If you spill salt, flour, cocoa, spice, or any powder of any kind in the kitchen, or anywhere else, clean it up and make sure your cat does not come in contact with it. Don't let anything get on the floor that would harm them if they lick it. I only buy candles from vendors who do not use essential oils, but I generally avoid mint and evergreen scents as an extra precaution.
Also, I would suggest using sprays only in areas that are off-limits to cats, and consider using only bath products containing no essential oils, since cats can ingest those oils through inhalation. Some vendors use no essential oils in their products. Tara's Candle Cottage is one who sells home fragrance (scent list includes a handful of BBW dupes, and her "Rustic Lodge" smells exactly like "Cider Lane") with no essential oils.
Don’t throw them out! Bath and body works has an awesome return policy. Bring them back to the store for an exchange, doesn’t matter how old they are.

@@summerrain3251 I know what you mean but when we already have SO many to use up, there's no need to add to the collection with more new ones. I've had to throw out just a few rancid ones but that's on me for not rotating them etc & using them up! :)
lnghrnfn Yea I don’t buy the creams anymore unless I know I can use them with in a year. Now I buy the lotions cause they last a long time. Also I try not to get too excessive.
