My Mom had the greenest thumb I’ve ever witnessed! We’d be out in the woods and she’d find a twig of a silver maple. 40 years later they needed a crane to remove it. It didn’t matter where, wild, neighborhood or garden center she would steal a leaf or a tiny section of the plant, soak it in rapid grow and then replant after a time. Mother’s Day was never an issue, a gift certificate to any garden center. ♦️🌿🍃🌺🌹♥️🌹🌺🍃🌿♦️
I'm on Ohio and i have to say this was by far one of the easiest years to harden off my plants, so many overcast perfect days for it, my garden has been in now for a couple weeks and it's really taken hold so well and the volunteers are way bigger then last year.
Hi Bre. I hope you got everything harvested. It is supposed to get down to 27 degrees here in Kansas tonight.
SWEET POTATO TIPS:
When those vines get going really good and you have to trim them back, EAT THE LEAVES 😋 Also chop up and do a VERY quick Blanch (they go from soft to mushy wayyyyyy faster than other greens) and freeze in bags marks with how many servings are in there for the cold months.
Take cuttings and root them (or plant with their roots that might already in place) in planters for beautiful foliage.
Keep those slip potatoes going for more slips to use inside and outside for foliage.
Harvest after the first light frost.
Make sure you have your methods in place to cure them so you don't get overwhelmed. I recommend the plastic bin/heat mat way. Some people super humidify one room for weeks and that just makes me paranoid about mold issues down the road in that room.
Curing is neccesary, especilly with purple ones, to access the full sweetness of the potato as it forms those sugars.
I harvested 60 lbs last year and then learned oh shoot I don't have the space to do the oven method because I need my oven and can't leave it for weeks on end doing 60lbs of potatoes haha
Thank you so much for taking the time to share all this with me! Appreciate it!
Wow Ive struggled with curing sweet potatoes as by the time I harvest its cold outside and we dont have humidity. A plastic storage bin with a heat mat would be perfect! Ive never heard that method before. Thanks for recommending!!
Happy to help! Don't forget to put a little cup of water in there 😊there's a North Carolina gardening youtuber who I learned it from. Search curing sweet potatoes plastic tote to find a tutorial by 'the millenial gardener'.
Hii Bre i’m getting chickens soon and i was hoping you could make a video about all the supplies you use for the chickens and the things you recommend and don’t recommend? Also i love your channel!❤
Love how easy it is to seed save snap dragons. Never have to buy seeds 😊
I love the outside time with the cats! I built a catio for mine because they would fight and hiss when it was time to come inside. now they can stay outside as long as they want!
I can't wait to make a catio for them!! They would love it & so would I lol
Super nice garden
i love the idea of the growing bags... great job bre
I'm growing all of my hot peppers in grow bags this year after seeing her use them!
I'm excited to see how your sweet potatoes turn out! And actually now want to plant some but next year!
I’m the same way with loving the long days and getting sad with the end of the summer.
It's amazing how the garden looks! ❤ Just a heads up, you might want to look into the leek moth for your onions, the damage on the leaves kinda look like their doing. 🤔
Thanks! & thanks for the tip! Ill look into that, actually never heard of this pest before actually! Most my damage on the onions was from crazy winds we had in the spring, it caused a lot of breakage. At least from what I've seen!
I love the cats! 🐈 🐈⬛
Enjoyed spending the evening with you! The garden is looking fantastic!
I bought slips for the first time this year and what I was sent were pathetic half dead( total dead now) rootless sticks. 22 $ for twelve dead stems. Yours are beautiful and should grow beautiful
Really enjoy your channel.
Could you make the cats a small run? We did that as our cats are basically indoor cats and with the run (right near our garden, they are out there now all day with us and love it. All we used was some t posts and wire fencing and then put a wire fencing roof over it as well. We made a little trap door cut into the wire that we can open like a flap to get them in and out and also that we can secure with a bungee cord. They have a great time and it was cheap…🥃
I like sweet potatoes
Wonderful video Miss Bri. I was also wondering what program you use to plan out your garden? And have you ever heard of seed time? I’m thinking of trying it out, because this is only my second year at gardening and I could use the help figuring out when to start seeds indoors and the whole spring and fall growing thing. Again thanks for your gentle heart.
I used a spread sheet for years to plug info and organize. It was a lot of work but it helped a lot! Ive heard of seed time and from what I've seen it looks like it would help a lot!
Will they be ready for Thanksgiving? That would be so cool to see your Thanksgiving table with all the stuff from your garden! Love your videos. Thank you. !
Great video, good luck! First time growing them this year, hope it works out. Lol
I have to ask where you got your floral overalls from!? I need those!! 😍
Hi Bre! I have tried to grow culinary poppies for years with no luck and yours look beautiful! Did you direct sow and if so, did you not burry them and only cover with straw ? I’ve always read not to cover them in dirt when sowing. Thank you!
Thank you! I did direct sow and rack them in. I want to say I did a very light layer of mulch when I planted
hey! where did u get ur garlic from, im looking to grow some this year!
Hi Bre - I'm from Maryland and loving all your videos! I bought sunflowers to plant because I was inspired by your garden. I love the trellis and raised beds. Did you build it?
That’s so exciting!! And all the metal ones are from amazon. I have them linked in my store front. Anything wood we built ourselves. I have 3 8x4’s, the inground space and the small bed that lines the trellis! The trellis is just cattle panels and t posts!
What kind of straw do you use in your beds? Plain bedding straw or do you buy seed-free labeled straw?
@@itsbreellis thanks! That’s what I ended up with. Trying mulch for the first time this year. 🤞
I can’t pull pests off bare hands like that, wish I could but not sure I’ll ever be brave enough
I grew my own slips too and thought I was late to planting, but I guess not! Did you harden them off at all? How?
I did harden off a bit. a few hours each day for about 4 days adding more time. As long as your frost date isn't to early you should be set but Id get them in asap
Amazing garden 🪴, I am new to your channel and I saw you using a tool when you planted the sweet potatoes. What is that called?
Your cat reminds me of Falcor!
Hey @itsbreellis new to your channel! Do you hand water everything or do you have drip irrigation? I've seen a dew ojas - great idea for inside grow bags! Wondering what your watering routine is - what/how/when.
I do hand water. I have Oyas in some locations. During mid summer Im watering almost daily with how dry and hot we get. This time of year may be a few times a week. Takes me about 30- 40 min or so
@itsbreellis wow that's great, I thought a garden that size would take much longer! I do container gardening on our deck and have a community garden plot. It takes me quite a while, but that is because I'm doing it with a toddler and baby. Haha. To water the community garden is a whole big task trying to drive kids over.
❤❤❤
What do you do to have such a wonderful and bountiful garden???
What planting calendar/organizer do you use?
Ive just done my own planning and organizing over the years. Made spreadsheets to help organize everything in on location
How do you you make your chamomile tea? I am growing it for the first time this year
👍👌
You were given the slips? Try to track them down so you get a harvest. ( joking!)
Hi, can you show us your tattoo in your elbow. it looks pretty cool from what i can see. I love your channel. thank you.
Hi Bre I have to tell you I am 69 years young & I love your channel. You are such a ray of sunshine and I enjoy your channel very much. You have such a good head on your shoulders and you know what you want and go for it. Keep being the strong woman you are and live life the way you want. Much love and admiration from PA.
Thank you so much!!
