    Sigh… my grandma and great grandmother were from this tribe and spoke otomi and even knew songs and folklore unfortunately my grandmother and great grandmother didn’t teach my mother the language because they didn’t want people to discriminate against her

      You can still learn hñöhñö, la UAQ and probably the universidad autónoma in Hidalgo have classes, including online (I know for a fact UAQ does). It's an easy language to learn if you already speak English and Spanish

    I thought I was Purepecha and Guamare chichimeca due to my ancestry dna locations (Michoacan and west Guanajuato) but I transferred my data to Somos Ancestria and my indigenous dna pointed me to Nahua Otomi in Hidalgo, north of Mexico City. I carry fragments of other Indigenous groups but Nahua/Otomi is my highest percentage.

    My wife just got her 23 and me updated and appears to be otomi, however, it's unclear as to wether this is because they've only sampled the otomi's and that's what she's cloest too, or they've collected enough samples from different tribes that you can tell which group she's actually from. Reguardless, I'm glad I found this channel as I've always wanted to know more about ancient central America.

    I'm so confused. So were Otomie's were very closely related to Nahua people? Or are Otomie's Chichimecas...or are the Otomies the original people and then people broke off and became different so called "chicimeca" people?

    • @rodrigogiles5390

      Nahuas are from Northern Mexico Originally, think of otomíes as a language family with scattered tribes all around central Mexico that eventually moved north whom we also call chichimecas

    • @alejandrabecerra8863
      @alejandrabecerra8863 3 роки тому +4

      @@rodrigogiles5390 So are Nahua and otomi both just language families not tribes? Because an Otomi nation is established in central Mexico…right? Also, is it true that Nahua people can be tracked all the way down to Nicaragua?
      Sorry for all the questions it’s just my family is from the so called states of Aguascalientes and Jalisco and the original peoples from there always mentioned are Guachichil people who were considered Chichimeca, so I thought otomi people were a different tribe of chichimecas. Not that Guachichil people were otomi.
      I hope this makes sense. I’m just trying to understand the relations and terms.

      @@alejandrabecerra8863 it's confusing since anyone that the Mexica considered primitive they called "chichimeca" but in terms of Chichimeca-jonaz they probably are a groups of otomíes. And yes that's right i think I've read they are descendents of the nahua Toltecs from back in the day but I'm not sure but nahuas spread like wild fire even in small pueblos in Michoacan that was mostly purépecha they have their one dialect apart from the one spoken in central Mexico.

      @@alejandrabecerra8863 Jalisco and Nayarit have Huichol as well that are a pretty big influence maybe you can look into them. If you're tryna find your roots look at you grand parents or great grandparents pueblos and maybe look into who inhabitated them prior to Spanish expansion. You’re in the same boat as I am I’m 44%, my family isn’t connected to that blood because my great grandfather was a Spanish Creole. When my grandfather got married with my grandmother who was a Mix of moorish (North african people called Berbers who practiced Islam) and Spanish. So from there the disconnection went on. None of my uncles ever found out exactly where the full blooded Otomi family was.
