Hi Richard, This was such a great tutorial on Lionel‘s Universal remote. I have also pre-ordered the Cab 3. This should be here next week sometime. But in the mean time I am going to order one of these remotes. Thank you for making this video. I have subscribed to your channel. Keep up the great videos! I just shared your video! 💯👍
Even with Base 3 coming out this Universal Remote (as you’ve proven) is a pretty strong tool to have! I don’t think many modern 3-Rail fans understand just how versatile and handy these things are! Great video, Richard!
Beautiful, after 20mins of frustration, i got it to work on the #2 button, two different Lionchief Plus 2.0 ET44AC's Diesel Engines, love it, thank you 🚂
Rick, I have only one LionChief Plus 2.0 right now, but that is very interesting. I have some of the older LionChief engines. Great video and very nice layout.
Thanks for the video! Weirdly enough I tired this and for me it only works for the number 3 button. And no others. Strange. Lionel needs to just officially implement these features rather than put them behind a massive paywall.
Thsnkd for the subscription. I found it out by accident trying to switch between two LionChief sets at Christmas. It took about three weeks of fiddling with the remote to come up with the sequence.
Sort of. I was using three buttons number2-shift-number2. Then I realized that I just needed the two. There’s often a delay with the second locomotive connecting a second or so after the first connects.
Very interesting, but apparently it only works for me purely by chance, without any discernible system behind it. I tried it several times and it only worked once…
thanks for showing this, i wonder if there is a way with the free app to change the speed of the smoke units. I know that you can turn it on and off with the app. have you tried this with the app?
No I haven’t used the app. I imagine that if you set the locomotive up as far as volume, smoke sound balance and such it will hold those settings when it is connected to the remote.
Thank you for watching. As far as I know Menards uses a proprietary channel and can only be controlled with the remote that was included with the locomotive. Be careful with your Menards remote because as of today Menards has no replacement remotes should yours break.
The U 36 B Lehigh And CSX. The C&0 2765 2-8-4 And The Santa Fe F-3, LC Plus B&O GP7- Lehigh Valley RS-3. As I Do These I Will Post Video To My Channel.
Dang. I've tried everything and can't make this work on my universal remote with two locos. Tried with two legacy es44 and nothing. Tried one es44 and one sd70ace. Just will program one. Even reinstalled firmware and made sure remote was clear and nothing programmed to any buttons. Any advice?
If you’re working with locomotives that also have TMCC well as Bluetooth make sure your base is powered down. I’ve found that connecting the locomotives individually to the remote separately using the same button ( I use number two) and then disconnecting them helps. Take one connector to button two r then disconnect it. Repeat the the other locomotive. Then try the two button sequence using button two and the mic button on the remote. Make sure you have no other Bluetooth locomotive powered up.
Try connecting each locomotive to the number 2 button one at a time disconnecting each after they have connected. Then try the 2 button sequence for using two and shift. Sometimes mine won’t connect then after I have connected each separately the 2 button sequence catches both signals.
@@RixTrax tried that originally after the suggestion but had no luck. I'll keep at it. I did however get two LC locos to work. So the remote can do it. Just gotta find the right rhythm or make the legacy locos just won't play nice. Thanks again for the tips!
Assign the locomotive to button two and then clear the button. Assign the other locomotive to button two and clear it. Then with both locomotives on the track follow the video. It should work. Remember the action must be fast and smooth without hesitation.
Yes it will work with two different locomotives. In the video I show a steam and diesel lash up. The key is that the two locomotives you choose must run at about the same pace

Thank you for your kind comments
I had no idea lashups could be done using the universal remote, good to know

This gives options to those that don’t have a base at all or don’t want to spend the $500 yo get one that’s for sure.

Did both engines have a different Bluetooth id?
@rc4life445 yes, a Norfolk Southern & a BNSF was able to lash up, it took about 20mins of clearing and pushing buttons.
Cool Video, thanks for making it!
Glad you liked it!
Wow. This is great to know.
Thanks for watching…share it with your friends.

I WAS TOLD AT TRAINLAND THAT IT CUD NOT BE DONE, U PROVED THEM WRG!!! GOOD VID.
I was going to send them the video but haven’t as of yet. I’m in the processing making a troubleshooting video for the process.
Wow thank you !!
Outstanding, thank you 👍👍🔥

I just subscribed, you have revealed a mystery, lash up lion chief.
Thank you. It’s great for LionChief Plus and Legacy too. No expensive base needed.
@@RixTrax I Liked This System Right From The Start .
Now We Have The Universal Remote, Why Invest In The Legacy Base? Iam A 4x8 No Desire To Go Any Bigger.
Wow. Nice hack. How in the world did you figure this out? Unless I missed it I don't remember seeing this done before. Subscribing as well!

@@RixTrax great find.
Wow that was cool.
Than you
I don't own any modern Lionel, but still find this quite interesting.
Thank you It opens up opportunities in running trains without an expensive base.
Good stuff
thank you
The universal remote control is great. The should add more engine selection bottoms .Three us not enough for me
Great vidio, interesting. Thanks for the morning coffee...
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm curious - did you figure this out by trial and error? I'm impressed!

Will to Universal remote work with Menards F9 ?
