    I think the cruise boom is expanding too rapidly and there will a correction in not too many years time.

      More & more port cities are pushing back against cruise ships. The mega ships have to be part of the issue, with 5,000 passengers overwhelming the local community.

      @@Hawkeye2001 I. Couldn't agree more...building amusement parks at sea... more than likely great for the 5000 plus that'll fill them but a turn off for many ports...good insight 👍🏻

      Your correct. It’s more than just ports, it’s the economy.. people have proven they still want to make up for Covid years and travel, but I think we hit that peak this year. Things are going to slow down until Main Street starts picking back up. However that is also part of the plan, as many of these lines will start to retire older ships when this happens. Although many live these smaller ships, they are less profitable then the new mega ships and will be the first to go.

      @@nickpacaccio8540 I don’t disagree, but I will say this… having sailed on Allure (an Oasis class ship) I never felt crowded. In fact very much the opposite.. with the exception of the elevators..

    I visit Port Canaveral a lot even when I don't cruise from there. Quite a balancing act with cruise, space and shipping industry at that port! I read the Port Authority is going to relocate Bluepoints Marina to put a new cruise ship berth in that spot. The place the Port Authority proposed that just got shot down would be quicker and less expensive to do in the short term vs relocating Bluepoints Marina. The SS United States should be preserved at a Marime museum however the cost is the biggest barrier. I have a feeling it is going to be turned into an artificial reef.

    How we as a country choose to save other all around but not ships like the SS United States or USS Enterprise (CV-6) is baffling to me

    • @sccarguy8242
      @sccarguy8242 21 день тому

      Enterprise was a nuke, there was no way to save her. No way to pull her reactor and save the ship…. As for the United States, Millions have been spent trying to save her and we still have ended up here. Unfortunately she is probably past saving at this point just from a structural point of view.

    • @TheRussianFloofCat
      @TheRussianFloofCat 21 день тому

      @@sccarguy8242 Also to add on to that, according to the SS United States Conservancy, the hull of the ship is in remarkably good shape. It just needs to be repainted. The interior is gutted, but otherwise structurally intact. So its far from a lost cause beyond just optically.

    Great report. At the -:55 mark, your caption names the ship "Start of the Seas." That would be an original name but I'm sure it's just a typo. Keep making these awesome videos, Doug.

    Mornin' Doug! Sounds like Port Canaveral has outgrown its real estate. I do share the concern of another comment in that at some point there will be drop in demand. I suppose, if that happens, we'll be back to the days of occasional great cruise deals and opportunities for last-minute bookings. Not all bad for cruisers, but I'm guessing cruise lines are still carrying a fair amount of debt.

    Since the SS United States is totally gutted on the inside and it’s just the shell of her former self, I think that taking her out to sea one last time and sinking her as an artificial reef to provide a home for sea life would be a fitting tribute to her legacy.

    The Port Canaveral terminal issue is just a taste of what's to come with all these massive ships that are on order. This could be the downfall of several itineraries when they don't want to be overrun by these ships. I fear in the next 20 years, you'll see Alaska greatly reduced or gone completely. They can't handle the ships there now let alone anything bigger. Ports with a bridge will cease because the smaller older ships will start to go away. Vancouver can barely handle the Royal Class with the tides as it is.

    Such a tease Doug showing a ship we can’t sail on because Royal Caribbean wants us Americans to sail on their trash! Yet we can’t sail on Marella. It’s a shame the lack of conservancy didn’t have a plan for the Big U! They just did nothing to raise interest their whole entire ownership. If people saw restoration progress it would have meant something.
