I came into these comments just to request this. Bless you for this holiday gift. Fred is absolutely the best Scooby-Doo character and its about time someone said so. 👏
I slowed it to 0.25x so I could hear Tom’s amazing Scooby Doo opinions. I watched pretty much every Scooby Doo movie with my brother over lockdown and we have similar, very intellectual, conversations about the role of Fred (and Fred lore). Fred being the best is a v kino opinion, so much respect to Tom
Just wanted to compliment the editor on this episode. The overlays to show us which spaces were being referenced, and to indicate where the baddie's location actually was made this game so easy to follow!
I love the idea that when they cut to the monologues of everyone during the game, that in real time one of them tells everyone “ok I need the room I have something funny to say.”
I would like the unadulterated version of Tom’s interview about Fred from Scooby Doo when you guys get the chance😂 I’d like to hear his points on the character.
On the off chance you see this. Thank you Adam. I've been watching your content dating back to those Whatculture days. Be it fantasy booking, board games, interesting wrestling facts and more. Your humor and wit always cheered me up and you very much helped cultivate or in some instances recultivate some passionate hobbies. Love you and all the gang. Tom explains Fred's Importance in all of the scooby doo franchise, and that's the most time he's ever spoke before in his life, this is what makes him the best
Adam is really good at explaining board games, not just at the beginning of the video but during the game explaining rules clarifications. He has mastered the teach!
I have to say I think Tom might be my favorite lol. He is the perfect villian, suspicious and has such a sinster tone. Plus a sense of humor that can smack you when you least expect it. Great job to each and every player!!
Lol I love that after catching Jack the Ripper they just let him run off on his own immediately with complete trust xD “we’re good policemen!” “I think we’ve made a grave mistake!”
The amount of times their first idea was the perfect play for what the doctor did and then they just do one of their later ideas is insane. Laurie really threading the needle there, so exciting!
The tunnel vision towards the end was interesting, I think in the heat of the moment it might be hard to see all those wonky paths like the one Lorie took. I thought for sure they'd see it but then they missed it! Twice!
To be honest, Laurie showed tunnel vision by choosing backing away from the cops in center area. It was a big mistake to backtrack 89 -> 90 when he should have gone straight 89 -> 108. He could've created more space for himself, get nearer to the goal and reduced time the cops had to close the noose. Other then that, absolutely perfect play from Laurie!
@@alaric_ He definitely realized that error, you can hear him saying he should have moved to a better spot, and corrected himself to 108. That small mistake literally cost him the game, as he would have gotten to the kill spot one turn faster otherwise.
Oh boy, this was SO tense, I was genuinely gripped at the end like I was watching the final scenes of a primetime, psychological crime thriller. Bravo to all. #RIP Adam's heart.
I was so fired up and really wanted Laurie to win. He played that so well! But well played Adam, Blair and Tom for catching him last second. Very entertaining episode^^ :D
I haven't seen Adam this excited in ages and it just makes me so happy. This is exactly why No Rolls Barred is one of the best things to come out of UA-cam ever.
Tom as Jack the Ripper is brilliant casting, but of course, Laurie is once again the most sneaky person in board game club! This game is amazing and I love that you are finally playing it on BGC, even giving us two rounds! I want to thank NRB for introducing me to this game. I got a copy earlier this year after seeing it on Adam's top 10 list, and it has since then become one of the favorite games at family game night, and my mom's absolute favorite game. It's possibly the most tense game ever, and while it's not easy to win as Jack, it is so rewarding to sneak around, dodging the inspectors, that after one game is over, everyone always want to go again so they can see if they can do better as Jack.
Tension and hidden movement games have never been my thing But I really dug the claustrophobia shortly after the second carriage The feeling that one lucky move by the cops or one blunder by Tom would end the game And I’m left wondering How is this so long
Sweet baby Jesus that was brilliant!!! Game two was a a master class showcase of exactly why this game is considered a masterpiece. The narrow escapes, the psychology, the thrills and excitement, and that finale! Lady and gents, you just sold a board game.
I love how you explain as you go so it keeps the game moving but the viewer doesn’t get lost. Also great job on editing to make it easy to follow and understand the decision making 👍🏻
Mr. Blampied, you got me into pro wrestling back I your WC days, reinvigorated my hunger for it with WrestleTalk, and now recently introduced me to my new favorite hobby, board games. You, Adam, have made me a very poor, but very happy man. (EDIT) At some point, we (well, I) need to see the uncut version of Tom’s deep dive on Fred.

The last quarter of the second game was absolutely thrilling! I loved seeing Laurie being super sneaky sneaks, though I hated seeing him get busted right at the end. I was rooting for him! Watching Adam, Blair, and Tom so confidently spouting assumptions that he had to be in completely different places than he actually was was great.
THIS CHANNEL IS SUCH A GEM. THERE ARE TWO SIDES OF ME. ONE WHERE, I WANT THEM TO HAVE MILLIONS OF SUBS AND ONE WHERE, I WANT THE SUBS TO STAY THE WAY IT IS BECAUSE THEY ARE A HIDDEN GEM

The audio from the walkie talkie I'm sure couldn't make for a good video, but I'd recommend it, as it's a mixture of ironically bad and legitimately strong game design.
Have to say, Laurie played that second game PHENOMENALLY. A few times I thought his moves were completely nuts in the moment, but he was crazy like a fox and totally threw the others off his scent. And he came as close as possible given he had no special abilities for the entire last section of the game. Incredible!
This quickly went from cooperative to competitive when Adam figured out where Laurie was and convinced Blair and Tom to stay away just so he could make the arrest. 🤣
In the rules section it states : "When Jack reaches a new Discovery Location, he knows that it is the last turn of the round, but he must not reveal this information yet. At the end of phase 3, "Investigators: Clues and Suspicion" for that turn, if Jack has not been arrested, he declares that he has reached the next Discovery Location, and places a new red marker on the corresponding white numbered circle on the board." I see you guys are playing with Jack reaching the discovery and immediately ending the round, is this a rule change to make it slightly easier for Jack or am I misreading the rules and been playing it wrong?
They played it wrong but I like it… my group has trouble with Jack always getting caught, even without investigator powers (Jack still with all his powers). This would give Jack a slight boost. Might be a worthy variant for balancing.
@@kylesmorgabord5592 We’ve played some games without the dog power for balance. One tactic the rulebook mentions is to have Jack announce he’s playing a power but not reveal which one. I think I’d try that next time.
@@kylesmorgabord5592 I actually like it too, the game seems to be very skewed against Jack playing normally anything to even up the odds a little isnt a bad idea.

What a nailbiter! I loved the commitment to the Jack the Ripper bit, absolute treasure trove of quotes this episode is! "If the number of the circle Jack moves to corresponds to the number of another Discovery Location, Jack declares this at the end of the turn to begin a new round (see "End of the Round" on page 11). At the end of phase 3, "Investigators: Clues and Suspicion" for that turn, if Jack has not been arrested, he declares that he has reached the next Discovery Location, and places a new red marker on the corresponding white numbered circle on the board." i dont think Jack is supposed to declare they reached a murder circle until the end of the round (after investigators)
It's true! They were basically skipping an investigator's turn each round since Jack would move, discover and move immediately after as they begun a new round.
this is the perfect role for tom. also, him just breaking while trying to say 'i'll do anything for a scooby jack'?? skdjskdj. also blair busting out a perfect yoshi noise really caught me by surprise. i knew about toad, but?? perfect yoshi?
Just wanted to say thank you Adam and all the boys and girls of BGC for reignited my interest in board games again. I'm halfway through Gloomhaven : Jaws of The Lion, and Mansions of Madness is on the way through the post...I haven't enjoyed board game sessions like this since I was a kid!
Excellent play through of a great game! I like it. Somewhere between Jaws and Fury of Dracula (although the latter can take days to play depending on who plays Dracula). The tension was great. Laurie came so close. I was shouting at Tom to move for the last move thinking Adam was going to look for clues. Blair was almost on the money for the entire last body part. Well played. Looking forward to Mysterium! It’s one of the games we dress up to play! Interesting to see your take on it.
In the second game, i feel like the investigators used the strategy of mainly trying to block Bond but then were baffled when he went off in a different direction because… they had indeed blocked him.
Bought this game after seeing the Masterpiece video on it and IT. WAS. WORTH IT. Instant favorite. So good to see y’all play it. Keep up the excellent work, folks. It is much appreciated.
Reminds me of a bit of a simplified variant of the board game, Scotland Yard. Just with a little more flair. Loving the character building you've all worked in to this episode!
I've watched NRB every day for the past month and it's incredible content. I hope it goes on forever. I get to check games I like and also (a bit less) get to know new games. I love the whole cast.
Another fantasic game from the NRB team, what a tense ending... Makes me want to go buy a copy of the game, although finding one at this time of year is going to be tricky!!
Thar reminds me of the game "Scotland Yard". It was similar but in more modern times. There the searched player had to travel by taxi, by bus or by subway. At the beginning he has just a few tickets, but he gains the tickets, the detectives used. He just had two double-moves and two black tickets. The detectives can see his tickets, he used, but with the black ticket, they don't. Plus he can use the ferry with them. The searched, Mr. X, had to show himself at special times and he only has to not be caught for, I think, 21 moves. All players share one grid and Mr. X only is caught, if one detective gets on his field. At least, thats how I remember the rules of "Scotland Yard". But I haven't played it for decades.
This game felt very unbalanced against Jack, feels like he shouldn’t have to reveal when he has used a power. Like if a criminal back then used a boat and they had no idea the person was at a dock, they wouldn’t know he used a boat. I suppose you could make so after reaching one of their target spaces, they have to reveal all powers used getting to that point then, would be fairer. As this game felt very unbalanced.
That would make it absolutly impossible for the agents. If you take the boat move where Adam cut Jack the Ripper off. If he wouldn't have known that a boat was used, they would all have gathered on that corner of the map before having a body ping on the north side of the map. Giving Jack the Ripper free roam to get to the other north corner of the map without issue. Those pings of a power being used cut down the amount of options, but not by much. An Alley from 61 still leaves 4 or 5 options.
Making an arrest on water 184 at 1:09:45 was a very bad move i think because if he was there, he cant move anywhere because he has already used two boat cards so he is lost anyway. Thats why it is better to just check if he was ever there, as he will either lose the next turn or you at least know that he boated from there. Also, he wouldnt use his last boat to go 184 where he is stuck and even if he did, like i said, it is better to check for clues on 184 in this situation.
I’m livid at the fact Blair either forgot where she was or intentionally moved an extra square. She never should have found Laurie after the third body part

I’ve been hoping for a video with this game and this just made my damn day, I love this game
44:19 - Adam peppers so many references in! Lady Marmalade reference here "like cake, straight out the gate"
So Toms rant about Fred from Scooby Doo is gonna be a whole video on it’s own right…. RIGHT!?!
ADAM: sure, why not - ua-cam.com/video/XvMvH1G-R4o/v-deo.html
What a legend Adam
The most tense few minutes of my life towards the end there. When Tom and Blair both moved to and then away from the finsl location I screamed
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! EVER SINCE I SAW ADAM MENTION IT IN THE TOP 10 LIST!
What a second act!! Loved it.
That last round was amazing!
20:10 "Great plan!" --Demolition man
Wait for the murderer to kill more people then you will know exactly where to strike!
Classic!
Beautiful game! Loved the video. My wife and friends play this every weekend now.
I’m livid at the fact Blair either forgot where she was or intentionally moved an extra square. She never should have found Laurie after the third body part
tom breaking over the stupid joke is way funnier since he normally plays the stone faced one
Wow! That last chase! What a nailbiter!
that second game was so intense! very satisfying to watch
