Hey guys! Hope you’ve had a good start to 2022 😊
Have you been to Fukushima before or is it on your bucket list? If you like lots of snow (😆), Aizuwakamatsu is a beautiful spot to explore!

Thank you for coming to Aizu Wakamatsu. Aizu Wakamatsu is my hometown.
The manju shop shown in the video is my relative's shop. Thank you for buying "Manju" as a souvenir!
The yellow on the outside of the manju is a grain called "Awa". "Awa" is "foxtail millet" in English, maybe.
It is made by mixing "foxtail millet" and "glutinous rice" and steaming.
If you have a chance, please visit Aizu again! Have a good trip.

Sorry, for some reason UA-cam marked your comment as spam so we didn't notice it until now. Thank you very much for watching and commenting! That's so awesome that the shop is your relative's! The manju was delicious. We'd love to visit Aizu again some time 😊

Thank you for sharing. Our crew and I were thinking of places to visit and what we could share before we approach the local tourism agencies and you've given us some ideas. We hope you had fun there!

Wow, utsukushii yuki.... for a moment I thought you were going to go down sitting on the railing, sliding down. Like in the movies.
I like it when you try the local food. It's always interesting. And that place at the starting point looked very nice.
I have seen in the comments that you already answered about the senjafuda. I remember at a castle, I think it was in Kumamoto, where they had them made of wood, something similar, with the patrons having donated money to the restoration of the place.
Have a good trip. See you soon!

Hahaha maybe that would have been an easier way to get down those stairs! Ooh we're glad you like seeing the local food because we love trying it haha.
Yeah I'm so glad we know more about the senjafuda now, everyone was really lovely sharing their knowledge. We'll have to keep an eye out for them in other places - would love to see Kumamoto castle one day, it sounds interesting! Thank you as always for watching! 😊

Great video! Enjoyed seeing the snow and your yummy looking lunch!
I have asked my Japanese husband and he says the senjafuda that we can see in your video are people’s surnames, some are company names and some also have the town from where they come from, on there. Apparently it is discouraged these days for visitors to do this anymore. Seems these stickers are quite historic themselves.
Thank you for sharing with us! We are looking forward to your next video.

Thank you for asking your husband, it's really interesting to learn about them! Definitely a lot of history at that temple. Thank you, as always, for watching! 😊 Hope everything's going well in Australia.

Senjafuda (千社札, lit. the "Thousand Shrine Tags") are votive slips, stickers or placards posted on the gates or buildings of Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples in Japan. Unlike ofuda, which bear the name of the shrine, senjafuda bear the name of the worshipper, and can be purchased pre-printed with common names at temples and shrines throughout Japan, as well as at stationery stores and video game centres. Senjafuda were originally made from wooden slats, but have been made of paper since the Edo period.

Thank you for the information! Now we'll know what we're looking at when we go to a temple or shrine next 😆

@@RoyandAimee Ha ha. Yes. I lived over there for two years and never knew what those were called either!! I lived down in Oita-ken, Beppu-shi. The whole city was hot springs. Yufuin, over the hill from Beppu, was one of my most favorite towns. Also, I love Kagoshima. I hope you get to travel south sometime. Another favorite and beautiful town is Hagi in Yamaguchi-ken. It is on the coast and has samurai history. It is charming and beautiful. I was an english teacher for the Jet Programme... hope you keep enjoying your stay. Thanks for the videos. I hope to visit in the spring if I am allowed. My mother was Japanese and all of her family live in Nagano in the Suwa area. I need to go and visit them. Ja ne.

That's awesome! We loved Beppu when we went there. We travelled around Kyushu for a month in 2020 by campervan (we have a few videos on our channel from it!) but we skipped over Yufuin for some reason. We definitely want to go back sometime and see the places we missed! Thank you for the recommendation for Hagi - Yamaguchi ken is also on our bucket list (it's a long one haha). Hope that you can get here in spring! You must be looking forward to being in Japan again and seeing family 😊
