These directions were spot on. I followed them and was able to replace a faulty HDD with a new SSD drive. I agree with the comment that it would have been nice for you to close the system back up rather than make me back up to video to each step to make sure I got everything put back correctly. As for the O/S I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to install Win 10 from a boot-able USB drive after downloading it from Microsoft. That took care of all the drive formatting and partitioning. It didn't even ask me for the product activation code. When I was done, everything worked and Win 10 is such an upgrade from Win 8. Thanks for the assistance.
Thank you for this man. 6 years on and still helping people like me. Would never have known that the keyboard separates and of those additional casing screws under it. Just needed to clean the fan, and succeeded without bricking the thing. Thank you!
I know this is a way old computer now and no one's watching this much anymore, but I just did and this was spot on. Ripped out my old harddrive from this re-purposed (turned into a free chromebook with neverware) PC so I can make sure any stray data on it is disposed of properly.
This video was extremely helpful when my HD needed replacing. I doubt I would have had the courage to do it without this video. As it was, I got it replaced and put back together now all I have to figure out is how to reinstall Windows. Thank you very much. One suggestion, showing putting the computer back together would be a plus.
Thanks for the video. I was just about to use brute force to pry the palm rest off after removing all the screws from the bottom...then I found your video. Been working on PC's for 25 years but never messed with a laptop. This was very, very helpful and now I can bring a dead PC back to life with a simple HDD replacement (actually upgrading to an SSD on my 15z-b000 after an HDD fault)
Just wanted to say "Thanks!" Save me a LOT of having to figure out how to take the neighbor's goofy laptop apart, so I could replace their dead hard drive. Sure do appreciate that you took the time to do this and to share with the world.
Fantastic video. HP seem to make it as difficult as possible to upgrade so you buy a new laptop so their site didn't mention the screws underneath the keyboard. You've made my weekend. Cheers!
great video, very helpful, have a similar model and this is the closest video i've found the resembles it . . . appreciate your time & effort to share this with the community !
Hi, thank you. It went great thanks to your video. I have an HP 14-R211TX, it has two small bolts in the optical drive bay, which have to be removed for the top can come off. At the end of the hard disk there's a speaker which comes off with one bolt. Extra screw for the hard disk below. For the rest it's the same. Replaced my hard disk for a hybrid. Thanks again.
Thank you for the video. I'm replacing the HDD because I need to get a back up for it. Don't forget to blow the fan because it accumulate dust. Greetings from Mexico City.
Thanks for such a great clip. You probably did not get paid doing this. So may Goad reward you mightily for taking out your time to record n share your steps - very detailed and clear video. Thanks
This is more than great! Thanks for taking the time to help people be familiar with their PCs, very much appreciated! I have one question if could help; what type of RAM can I add to this notebook? It seems that I have problem with the current installed RAM. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video! I have a Pavilion Sleekbook 15, similar construction as this 14, and the hard drive is failing. I am tossing around my options regarding installing a new hard drive or selling it for parts because I really don't want to have to go through the idiocy of this case! The laptop powers up, and the hard drive throws a caution when running CrystalDiskInfo, but I do love the size so I'm torn which way to go... dragging my feet, not a good thing when opening up a laptop case. :) I also have a Pavilion DV7 in which I might just upgrade the hard drive, it has two bays and is SUPER EASY to do. Like I wrote... I'm torn. :/
Excellent video! Thank you so much for the detailed steps of disassembly! I have the exact same laptop and followed the steps to replaced the HDD to SSD.Would you please also let us know what type of screwdriver you used to take off the screw that secured the Wifi Card? My 3.2mm Philip Screwdriver could not get that one out. I would like to upgrade RAM as well but would not be able to do so without removing the Wifi card. Thank you so much!
For anyone interested, Dunlop makes a very thin and cheap guitar pick called a match pik and they are perfect for removing the keyboard instead of using a blade.
Very great video. Thank you very much. I have the HP pavilion 15 and have two questions: - I want to upgrade the HD to the Seagate 1TB Laptop Gaming SSHD (Solid State Hybrid Drive) SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 2.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST1000LM014). This is a 9.5mm design. Is the HP Pavilion sleekbook 15 compatible with this drive or should I replace it with a 7 mm one? - I want to upgrade the ram to 8GB. Do you have a video how to replace ram and which models do you recommend? Thanks.
Hi. It looks easy. I want to see the hard disk and get another one because it did not pass the self diagnostic test. Thanks for sharing. Blessings to you. Jacob from Panama.
very instructional video. thanks. I need to replace mine or low format it since MBR got corrupted. could you please tell me which HD is compatible with this one? or which criteria has to meet to work with this laptop? thanks again. greetings from Spain.
Many thanks for this video. Without that I would never been able to change the HD on my machine. It isn't first time I have changed a disk, but there was some tricky parts that was not that obvious. Like the keyboard. By the way, I used a old obsoleted credit card instead of a guitar plectrum. Worked that too. :) Anyway, thanks. Now I have thumbde up and following your channel. Next is to intall Ubuntu on the machine. :)
Sorry to be negative but whatever you do DON'T run a pick round the outside of this laptop. You will beak some of the clips. Instead as the service manual shows carefully separate the palmrest at the battery area and then lift from the center so as to pull the palmrest inwards away from the base. This saves the clips from breaking. God knows I've taken enough of these apart. I learnt the hard way the first time.
Very helpful video. This is the model I own. My hard drive got messed up and I was reading I should buy an SSD but I want to replace my 500GB HDD for a 500GB or higher SDD. The ones I've seen are 2.5". Would it fit?
Yes you can use ssd (most of ssd are indeed 2.5" SATA "slim / 7 mm thick" ) in this model. I remember, 3 days after I bought it in 2012, I replaced the HDD with a samsung 64GB SSD , which was the cheapest I could afford back then. I "clone" the OEM Windows 8 into the SSD and then use the 500 HDD as external USB hard drive until now.
Hi, sorry I have a laptop same I want to change the ram but I need to know what type of ram you use and which one would you recommend if you can help me know so I can not go wrong on the purchase please. Thank you!
I definitely like this video. Thx for showing us how to do it. Otherwise, I would never guess how. But I have to say HP sleekbook has the worst design I have encounter so far. I never have to take a laptop completely apart to change the hard drive. I am not Macbook user, so I don't have this problem prior.
You can not upgrade the graphics card, it's all onboard! and I can't do another video on this laptop as it is now sold sorry, the RAM is under the motherboard, follow my steps but then carry on to remove the motherboard from the base, it's fairly simple
I have the same laptop and was wondering if you know how to transfer data from a hard drive to a laptop and which hard drive adapter USB should be use?
thanks for the video. i was wondering if upgrading to ssd improved the performance. i have the same model but the its slow and mostly i use it for coding, so should i upgrade to ssd ?
My hard drive is busted thanks to your video I can replace it on my own any suggestions on how to get an OS on there? I'm a novice would appreciate any suggestions, thanks again!
Sorry about the lack of punctuations, my hard drive got busted! But thanks to your video I know how to replace the hard drive! Thank you for putting up the video sorry for the confusion.
Sorry to bug you but on the laptop you didn't show anything past the base break down, I know that the dc jack isn't soldered on and from zooming in on the video it looks fairly easy to get out, but do you have any advice on the removal of one? Mines been sputtering out to say the least so I'd like to replace it for 8 bucks rather than spend another 400
Hi!! Thanks for the video. I know little about laptops and all but I was wondering if it's possible to connect my hard drive of my broken sleekbook to a 2nd sleekbook without going through the whole process of dissembling the 2nd sleekbook? I broke my laptop and its whole screen is cracked badly, but I just wanted to transfer pictures to my new sleekbook. Thank you :D :D
I want to take the hard drive out of my envy to get some data off it before having to do a complete restore (corrupted OS). My keyboard is backlit...are there any other special steps I should know about before digging in?? cheers!
I have an Hp 14 r206 nv can you help me? how do I remove the keyboard cord-tape, i think it the same as this one in video but I didn't figure it out how to do it.

Robbie Wilkes Thanks for the kind comment :)
I hate how they now make it so hard to upgrade your hardrive, it doesnt make any sense, anyway, great video thanks =)
Thank you very much! The shitty hard drive failed and your video made me comfortable in changing it myself rather than taking it to a shop!
Way better than HP's removal guide, thank you so much!!!
Thanks. This was very helpful compare to the HP manual. Would be great if you can list the tools that would be needed before starting.
Fantastic video. HP seem to make it as difficult as possible to upgrade so you buy a new laptop so their site didn't mention the screws underneath the keyboard. You've made my weekend.
Cheers!
Thank you. I love the way you presented the keyboard removal. I did not skip the ad for this.
I'm swapping in a SSD on a new HP g013cl laptop...you're instructions were very helpful.
Jeff Maudsley Good I'm glad they helped you!
great video, very helpful, have a similar model and this is the closest video i've found the resembles it . . . appreciate your time & effort to share this with the community !
excellent video with important details. I certainly would not be able to switch my HD to a new SSD with such rich detail. I appreciate your help
This was very helpful. I had an issue with this model saying install OS to HD, had to make sure the HD was connected and this helped get there.

Great video. Especially the part about removing the PCB card before trying to remove the HD. Thanks.

Thanks to this video, I did not destroy my notebook
Thanks this was VERY helpful and saved us a ton of time!
Thanks for sharing this. I never took a laptop apart before but you made it easy! Awesome work! Put in an SSD.

how bout the strength?
Not that strong but they would work for this
Very great video. Thank you very much. I have the HP pavilion 15 and have two questions:

Jacob from Panama.
Trained myself with this video and HP publication 708183-002, before changing my hard drive.
Thank you! Very useful video. Just upgraded my sleek book memory and installed an SSD.
Thanks a lot, it helped me with my daughter's HP Pavilion Ultrabook 15-b052sf.
Now it ultimately brings me to my next question, can you upgrade the ram on those?
You have to lift the motherboard in order to see the ram slots. NB: I know, I'm 5 years late here; but comments are immortal so...
Worked for my 15-b00 as well. Now I've salvaged the hdd and will scrap the laptop as the smoke got left out of the box this am.
very instructional video. thanks. I need to replace mine or low format it since MBR got corrupted. could you please tell me which HD is compatible with this one? or which criteria has to meet to work with this laptop? thanks again. greetings from Spain.
Thanks for a great step-by-step and to-the-point video. Very helpful.

Hi, first of all Great Video! I have a question, which type of Hard Drive uses ? SATA, SATA 2 ? I have the model 15-g012dx, thanks!
Nice, I wonder if taking apart the HP 14-q070nr would be similar. I really want someone to make that video.
Thank you for reading.
Very helpful video. This is the model I own. My hard drive got messed up and I was reading I should buy an SSD but I want to replace my 500GB HDD for a 500GB or higher SDD. The ones I've seen are 2.5". Would it fit?

Thanks a lot for this helpfull video. I have a bricked HP 14 b158 laptop, so I wanted to extract the HDD.
Thanks. I followed the steps and everything worked great. Thanks again.
Hi, sorry

Follow my steps but carry on and remove the main board from the base plastic, the ram is on the underside of the main board
Thanks for this video. I successfully replaced the keyboard.
I have the same laptop and was wondering if you know how to transfer data from a hard drive to a laptop and which hard drive adapter USB should be use?
Thank you very much for the vídeo. I was about to spend a ton on Support but with this Vid I was able to fix it myself. Best wishes!
Was wondering why all 10 screws on the bottom need to be removed? Why not just the 2 with a keyboard icon?
dear sir, please share the video of power jack replacement for hp pavilion TouchSmart 14-b109wm
This was perfect. Just the video I was looking for thanks. Great job, keep it up.
thank you for sharing. this is so helpful. btw, how many Ram slots available on that?

My hard drive is busted thanks to your video I can replace it on my own any suggestions on how to get an OS on there? I'm a novice would appreciate any suggestions, thanks again!
Ali Raza Why thanks for my video? easy to get an OS installed, external DVD drive or bootable USB stick
Sorry about the lack of punctuations, my hard drive got busted! But thanks to your video I know how to replace the hard drive! Thank you for putting up the video sorry for the confusion.
Ali Raza Oh I Understand now, no worries!
Hello can you please sore how to take our the past jack? Do you have to remove the mother board first? Thanks
Clear concise instructions. Thanks for the helpful video
Thank you very much. It was a great help and nicely done.

Really helpful video. Do you know if this model has an mSata port? ~
Hey Techmad i didnt see the slots for the memory sticks in the video how would you go about adding and removing them?

Thanks mate, really good guide simple and easy to follow : )
Thanks, this vid was straight forward and helped me out a lot!
I have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 B109WM and was wondering if it is possible to change for a more powerful processor
Great explanation, congrats. It's a nonsense HP do that. A simple HD replace becomes a hard work due to bad project developed by HP. It's ridiculous.
Hi TechMad UK,
Your video helped me a lot. I could thereby upgrade my Hp 14-r103ng with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD hard drive. thank you
