Here in Queensland Australia all thoroughbreds and standardbreds adopted after racing receive a little care package that comes with some supplements, grooming products, feed vouchers and we even get 10 free lessons with a registered trainer. The program has it faults but programs like these are a step in the right direction😁 They are hard work but so rewarding
This was a lovely video. I had looked into our local yard for the open day but it was for current race horses. I’m not sure on my racing views so didn’t attend. Visiting a centre for rehoming retired racehorses would have been right up my street. My current ride is a 26yr old thoroughbred, we take things nice & steady but he does very much have that thoroughbred brain & spice about him. Beautiful, kind horses. X
Many organizations in the US rehome OTTBs, but I've never seen a "bridge" program where the horses that are currently racing are prepared for a home off the track. I think that's wonderful!
I had a great comment written and then I had a phone issue 😭. It's great that the racing industry is starting to address the question of the welfare of horses once they leave racing. My personal mission is the retraining of Standardbreds. They are a heavily stigmatized breed. When I am done, hopefully some of that will change. I do want another Thoroughbred. My previous Thoroughbred brought me a lot of joy.
Very interesting and informative. It's so good to think that these guys can have a second career, and give so much pleasure.❤

So glad you enjoyed it - and i'm similar on my position re out and out racing, but enjoyed very much learning about the retraining process.
Unfortunately you don't see this type of care for ex race horses here in the US. Very nice to see.

Lovely seeing the racehorses
