LYRICS BELOW:
Þetta mun aldri enda því at ek vil meirr
Meirr, gef mér meirr, gef mér meirr
Þetta mun aldri enda því at ek vil meirr
Meirr, gef mér meirr, gef mér meirr
Ef ek hefði hjarta ek gæti elska þik
Ef ek hefði rödd ek myndi syngja
Eptir nóttina er ek vaki upp
Ek mun sjá hvat morgin komar
Ef ek hefði rödd ek myndi syngja
Dangla fett frá vindaugi ramma
Mun ek alltaf alltaf ná gólfið?
Meirr, gef mér meirr, gef mér meirr
Mullið ok fyllt með allt ek fann
Undir ok inni bara at koma í kring
Meirr, gef mér meirr, gef mér meirr
Ef ek hefði rödd ek myndi syngja
We appreciate you too👊
You should totally do "One Ring them All" from Lord of the Rings
Suggestion Joli Rouge by The Dreadnoughts!
Brilliant Colm🌹
When is it on Spotify so i can listen on repeat until i die?
Colm has literally the greatest vocal range I’ve heard in my life. He’s a tenor, baritone, and bass all in one...and how many instruments does he play???? I play piano, banjo, and accordion and here this dude can play guitar, banjo, accordion, bouzouki, cello, probably piano, and the 3-string medieval thing. Lol. Colm’s a world class musician.
Colm does NOT play piano, despite having multiple music degrees. He has to enter piano notes one at a time in a time consuming & tedious fashion!
The “Three string medieval thing” is a tagelharpa 🙂
Geoff Castellucci would give him a run for the money on straight voice, but Colm has him beat hands down on the instrumental mastery!
Some people are just built different
You're too kind, friendo! Also side-note: I cannot play piano, I'm so bad at it haha
This version > everything
YES
Hey it's Canadian Mountain-Queen-Rachel Hardy!
@The Sailor dude just shhh
You should learn old norse
@The Sailor correction
This version >= everything
Ever considered an Old Norse version of "Valhalla Calling Me"? I feel like your voice would lend itself very well to that song.
I second this that would be amazing
@colm
Oh my God, please.
Check out Payton Parish. His rendition is amazing! ⚔️🛡️👍❤️

As someone who accidentally found out how to throat-sing while singing along, alone in my car, I can say: that shit's hard, this man is a legend.
Teach me
@@maxwilson7001 while vibrating your voice, you gotta dig deep and push from the very bottom of your chest cavity. Adjusting your mouth shape and tongue position to get the right tone. As a smoker, it was hard af just to get in tune for a couple verses.
so i'm not the only one who sings in the car...
@@Ganpignanus yeah no. Apparently it's an ADHD thing. Almost involuntary. But I'll start out just casually mouthing the words to a chill song, until it starts to pick up pace, and then 10 minutes later I'm screaming along to Rammstein at full volume, getting all of the pronunciation down while not speaking more than 3 words of German. While headbanging and tapping my foot so hard the whole car is visibly rocking.
@@maxwilson7001 Start by humming on low tone and start moving that humming towards back of your mouth the throat and finally to your chest. You can feel the vibrations moving and then you know you are singing with your chest cavity, instead of your mouth. Cant really explain it better and i'm just learning my own as well. The best singers can do 3 sounds at the same time, singing from their chest throat and mouth at the same time, but i have no idea how the hell they can manage that when one or two is bloody difficult and cant really develop distinct tones like they can.
I had chills already, but I got more when you went up high, then was shocked when you went higher!!
I was like "What is his range?! The Milky Way?!" XD
The entire Known universe
The multivrsa and beyond

Bard: Nat 20!
@@asurasyn It's so inspirational the barbarian completely pops off
Definitely has the "tribe of Goliaths singing before battle" feel to me.
Same! :D
This is metal af. I suddenly grew a beard and wanted to go raiding. I could hear the sound of axe on shield.
Lmao. Well put
Then saith the Lord, "Let there be bass!" and Colm McGuinness began to sing...
and the waters filled with fish 😀
His vocal chords aren't normal...They're exceptional.🤔
Don’t you mean then Bragi said, “I shall bestow mankind with epic songs!” And then Colm was born?
You mean Odin?
And with a Loud Voice 333
Those are the manliest rolled R’s in history
As a Swede. I absolutely love the fact i can hear the initial lyrics. "Giv mig mer" aka; Give me more wich is the lyrics of the English song.
This is pure perfection and my Swedish ancestors raise the horn to you.
tbh all germanic languages are similar, Giv mig mer, or give me more, Gib mir mehr, geef mij meer.... its way too similar
In Scotland, the word for more is pronounced mair 😊
@@kilimonsta Yupp. Wasn't putting monopoly on the words. Just sharing my own experience. And Swedish is part of the Germanic language tree so it makes all the sense. :)
Sounds way closer to German top compared to the English version
@@bloochoob same in German.
high German : Gib mir mehr
low German : GEW mir mehr
I didn't realize a norse version of that song was missing...until I heard this. We needed this.
It was actually originally old norse
@@grebap A very spotty translation that's closer to modern Icelandic than actual reconstructed accurate Old Norse, with English word order on top. A+ for sound, C- for linguistic accuracy.
that is absolutely stunning. just... atmosphere of this song is SO norse, that you can literally hear thunderstorm, falling rocks, cracking ice, roar of the coldest wind and smell of frost on a dark night somewhere on the coast of the northern seas.
thank you very, very much for this incredible work! and please, also stay so AWESOME. you're really one of a kind.
Beautiful imagery, you nailed it!
Thanks so much, friendo! Lovely scene there!
This music NEEDS to be used in American Gods!
Ahh yes, and flat shores and sandy beaches of mild and warm Denmark :3
Pretty flowers and sunshine :D
Tiny fjord horses whinnying in the background and Gunthram eating an apple from the orchard while whistling a cheerful tune!
Funny thing: The original version is more of a voodoo song. ^^
THIS. There are just no words in the English language to express how excited I am about this!!! It's going to be the most epic thing that I have ever heard. (In case it wasn't obvious, this is what I voted for in the poll.)
If you can’t find it in English try Norse! Everything sounds epic in that language lol See ya there!
have in Portuguese: DO CARAAAAI MEU PIRRAIA TIRA ONDA DEMAIS LANÇOU BRABA FI, PIKA
"virkelig en sanghistorie som utfordrer troverdigheten" is the closest I got.
There are words for it, but I don't know them.
Tried in Polish, German, Russian, French, Japanese and Arabic - none worked xD and I believe would be hard to find the right one hahah ;) Supposedly old Norse would be a bull's eye ^.^
Such deep texture...shivers down my spine...
His voice is transcendent beauty
50/50 Danish and Irish guy living in the middle of nowhere America here. I still have relatives in both countries and can understand at least the basics of the Norse languages. I don't know how you landed on my suggested lists a year ago, but your renditions of various Norse and Irish tunes are so good. Both a nod to the traditional renditions with your own twist are exactly what musicians respect in a cover/ recording. You deserve all the praise and success you have already achieved and still have coming to you. Thank you for reminding me of my grandmother's Irish tales (I believe of Kilkenny) and my Danish family in Kolding, Denmark. Keep on doing what makes you happy and the best in the future.
I ended up here by the classic "random youtube algorithm", but man, what an incredible voice and a great cover! gef mér meirr!
I listen to the English version on repeat. Can't wait to hear you sing it like this 😃
As expected the cover did NOT disappoint at all! I had literal goosebumps from pretty much the beginning! Listening to this one on repeat as well ;)
9 hours ago I said I'd be here for the premiere, I made it, then Colm just straight transported us into the realm of Colm-Norse where he is Odin; and his voice wove it's magic. Returning to the normal realm seems bland by comparison to the realm of the Colmpany.
11/10 putting on repeat!
An Epic song sung by an Epic performer. Rowing rhythm and warrior growling song gives the mood only a skald would present.
Hahahaha I love this mental image! Cheers mate!
@@ColmRMcGuinness your works of music are a welcome to respite for some of your Kiwi (🇳🇿 New Zealand) fans who find ourselves living with a lockdown that may end in December if we are lucky. So I thank you again for sharing your talent with us all Colm, it truly is a respite in tough times.
I don't know what else to say except same. 😩😩😩
as a norwegian i can say this was really good.. shit i did not know about that there were someone that sang like this in norse and old norse =O
As Icelandic, I concur.
As a Dane... I do as well
As Swede im impressed
‘give me mair’ sounds very like Scottish too, showing how the old language overlaps. This is absolutely brilliant, what great rich deep voice 🥰
And in Germany we would say: Gib mir mehr :)
Geef me meer!
Gibb mi beer
This Norse songs are fantastic with his vocals, they keep me coming back. Would love an album of him just singing norse songs.
Holy shit I thought I loved the English version you did, and I DO, but this is my new favorite. You're freaking awesome. How do we get Wardruna to see this and do a collab with you? I would hit the roof.
1) Thanks so much for the kind words!
2) That would be amazing hahaha
or Skáld even honestly
@@vixtontitano2394 Heilung would be another awesome colab
How about all three?! I know that's probably hoping for too much but you never know right?
Wardruna is awesome in their own right, and a collab would be amazing, but based on this one performance, I'd say a collab with Fever Ray would be more appropriate!
Love this Nordic version, it shakes the ground under my feet.....Absolutely brilliant.
I believe this is the most beautiful and most powerful song I've ever listened to... Thank you Colm.
I'm absolutely speechless..
The "My mother told me (Old norse)" was a banger, but NEVER EXPECTED YOU TO DO ANOTHER OLD NORSE COVER!!!
This is going to be awesome. I haven't heard it but respect fro trying it in old norse. I wished for this ever since you made the community tab giving this as an option. You're great
Funny being Icelandic and understanding the whole thing.😂😂
If anyone wants the lyrics:
Þetta mun aldrei enda af því at ek vil meir.
Meir, gef mér meir, gef mér meir.
Þetta mun aldrei enda af því at ek vil meir.
Meir, gef mér meir, gef mér meir.
Ef ek hefði hjarta ek gæti elkað þig.
Ef ek hefði rodd ek mynda syngja.
Eftir nóttina er ek vaki upp.
Ek mun sjá þat (er?) morgin kemr?. (seems a bit dodgy translated)
Ef ek hefði rodd ek myndi syngja.
Dangla fet frá vindaugi ramma.
Agree, Impressive of him to do the whole thing in norse but yeah there are even more errors if you look closely. "Vaki upp" should just be "vakna" etc. Also "Ef ek hefði hjarta ek gæti elkað þig." is clearly just word for word translated as the order is very unnatural for us.
I've heard you guys can actually still read really old books (1200s?) no problem, so I'm not surprised. Very cool language you have there too. Thank you for the lyrics!
@@L3m0nate Yep, that's true. The difference between Icelandic and Old Norse is very minor and mostly comes down to minor spelling conventions, as well as coming off formal or old fashioned.
I dont speak icelandic or old norse. But i know they are different. Which is he actually singing in? Not many still speak languages like old norse, old english, old french and classical latin.
Nvm. Hes singing icelandic.
min 2:31 WHAT??? I am completely blown away by his vocal talent and range!!!! That was PHENOMENAL!!!

One of these days they ought to have a Viking series with a theme song in old Norse. Especially one with a deep bellowing voice like this!
I left this playing in my truck last night.
