“There’s definitely a sense of anticipation in Westminster at the minute.” - says Zoë Grünewald, political reporter for the New Statesman.
The Labour party is anticipating a reshuffle in the next few months, predicted to take place sometime between the by-elections and the upcoming conferences. In this vital period, Labour MPs will be “bargaining” for power and influence.
Whilst everyone is trying to “nail down their positions”, nobody is able to predict Keir Starmer’s next move. His decisions will establish the narrative he will take into government.
Anoosh Chakelian, Zoë Grünewald, and Rachel Wearmouth, discuss the Labour reshuffle rumours.

Labour need to shuffle off.
It's just a further drift to the right and probably secure Labour as a single term government
Yeah, anything that isn't Corbyns brand of failure is always 'right wing' for some people. Vote Communist Party if Labour is too right wing for you.
Maybe a minority single term government.
I live in Steve Baker’s constituency, Wycombe. It used to be a safe Tory seat. The Labour candidates in 2017 and 2019, both local born and bred - one lives a few streets from me, made it into a winnable seat for Labour. And both thought highly of Corbyn. They got my vote easy when they knocked on my door. But the Labour choice for next election is from Wolverhampton and she doesn’t like Corbyn. She’s a Tory in socialist clothing. If you’re a Tory you vote for the real thing and if she does win, it’ll be a protest vote. Meanwhile the sizeable number of left leaning people here have no one to vote for.
Sir Kid Starver
Well that was a waste of time! Nothing reported, just a bit of speculation and a lot of repetition
Thank you. you just saved me 4 minutes.
What a waste of time that video was.
My currently Tory Westminster parliamentary constituency has Lib Dems as favourites to win. I was going to vote tactically for them to get rid of the Tories. However, now I will be voting Lib Dem un-tactically. I think they are left of Kid Starvers Labour Party.
Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic
'He can't banish the soft left entirely'. A very telling comment. In others words he'd like to - just purging the radical left isn't good enough. I've voted Labour in the last 6 out of 7 general elections. Next general election it will be 6 out of 8, despite me living in a Labour/Tory marginal. Labour really are now that bad!
So at the moment you area is fake Tory and Tory
Keir Starmer seems most similar Liz Kendall figures in politics. That’s why he had to pretend he was someone else to get elected.
Tony Blair: Shadow Home Secretary
Gordon Brown: Shadow Chancellor
David Milliband: Shadow Foreign Secretary :)
Lol imagine giving Blair shadow foreign secretary. Ppl are going to have nightmares for days
Why would Sir Keir want a Levelling Up minister, he only wants to Level Up Sir Keir Starmer.
Infantile post.
Because he has to follow whatever crap the Tories invent?
@@daraorourke5798 The electorate vote for that crap, which the Tories then ignore or abandon.
My guess is that there will be a reshuffle in a few months. In other words its not a story and its been padded out to waste 10 minutes that I'll never get back.
Only wasted because you didn't pay attention. The guess was that the reshuffle would be after the byelections to give the new appointments plenty of time ahead of the conference.
@@kicorse I've heard that Labour and Tory conferences will now be held together as they are saying the same things
@@kicorseI did pay attention, she said in a few months, it's just a coincidence that it will be a few months after the by elections. It must have been a slow day at the office to claim you she knew something that she clearly didn't

It,a all .con the bills will fall through the letter box, they can,t solve a the nation's problems all at once, anyone who thinks so are more optimistic than me.
He should make it more right wing because it clearly isn’t right wing enough as it is. Maybe get some Tories who aren’t quite evil enough to rise to the top of the party to cross the commons. The only thing I give him credit for is his economic policy which is first and foremost based on the answer to the question: “what would the Tories do?”
Unless it’s Andrew, the NS “news” is terrible….
Saint IKEA Starmer is as charismatic as the bottom of my slippers.
People clamouring for a Starmer-led government must actually be quite pleased with the current government's policies but want them out because they've somehow been personally offended by the Tories. That's the only logical explanation for wanting Starmer in charge because there won't be any difference between him and Sunak.
Basically, Starmer voters want more of the same (xenophobia, low investment, austerity and public sector privati- sorry, "reform") but with a witless bore in charge instead of a super-rich spiv.
The idea that Tory governments and Labour govts have ever been really radically different to each other is a fantasy. If the Tories had won in 1945 you would have still got the Beveridge report being implemented, albeit in a less statist way. If Labour had been electable in the 1980s you would have still got a rightward shift in economy policy because the entire world, including China, was shifting in a pro free market direction at that time. Some people hate the Tories simply because they're Tories. It's a kind of tradition for some people. Then Labour get elected inevitably disappoint their own voters and the cycle starts again.
Keir starmer is a multi-millionaire Conservative so since its tory party or red tory party I might vote green party
Good bye corbyncretin
@@MishMash22 a leader that wants to grow the UK economy and not damage it would be a good start for any party worth a salt, its been in decline since 2008
His "priorities"...are anything he thinks is "on-trend" this week... 🙄
This sounds like a dim idea. Don't give the Tories any lifelines. Labour already have an excellent, diverse team. Don't rock the boat when we're coming into harbour.
Apart from Starmer the public have no idea who is actually representing the Labour Party ( probably a good thing ,mind ).
@@lestrem11 Disagree.
@@Peter-ud9bx Why?
Sir Kid Starver should shuffle hinself out. A terrible leader
What’s the average of 79 and 81 ? Need any help ?
...along with Streeting and Reeves...
@@robertgoulty395 You too….what’s the average of 79 and 81 ?
Journos have to invent 'possibilities' to give the paper something to print. If Starmer has any sense he will wait and match personalities with the likely Tory re-shuffle.
How to talk about something that has no substance in fact without any knowledge of it as a journalist. Vacuous nonsense.
Public figures take knighthoods because they think their career is over. Keri must be the only one who took one before it started. Apart from the Lib Dem bloke, Ed Case I think his name is, who got the job because he was the only MP not called Moron who’d not done it already.
Whatever happens, it is absolutely essential that a total UNITED front is produced for the Labour Party & of course it stays united. No more in-fighting or discontent, otherwise that we be exploited hook, line & sinker by the tories & particularly by the lying right wing tabloid press.
You serious? You think the right of the party can plot against, demean and insult the left for a decade and you expect us to go along with it when Starmer unveils policies that would be too right-wing for many actual conservatives? You know where you can go?
Do you honestly think the right wing press is simply going to play fair any way?
It’s pretty difficult to present a “united front” with someone whose only priority thus far has been purging everyone who disagreed with him and his mates and who actively enjoys as presenting himself as “ruthless” when going after the members of his own party for the pettiest of factional reasons.
Excellent views on British politics. As an American in the Pacific Northwest, the gyrations in Parliament and Number 10 is a sight to behold. 😊
Bearing in mind your country’s jokers I find your comment very funny. Had any good insurrections recently?
Starmer fears Rayner. She's better than he is.
What's that noise at 50 - 51 seconds?
"Sir Keir Starver" 😊
Sir Kid Starver
@briandelaney9710 Thanks for correction And make me feel sick even having to write it
The reshuffle should start at the top. They really need to start focusing on the lives of the working people of this country and fixing our broken pubic services, and take utilities back into public ownership. They are way too blue for my liking. They should be called New Purple.
Yes, right… meanwhile Starmer had Rachel Reeves invite Tory party donors for breakfast in order to convince them the Labour Party is “the only fiscally responsible party” around. Which means more austerity and working class people will continue to foot the bill for these people posh lifestyle.
Absolutely no chance of that. Don’t you remember that Corbyn bloke?

It looks like the children have taken to posting here,.
Sir Kid Starver? Grow up, act your age, not your shoe size
Lol ...Starmer is going to get tougher criticism than that once Labour are in power
Act your age not your shoe size🤣 I haven’t heard that since I was about 8 🤪🤣. How old are you?
Useless speculation here, they're collectively clueless
As long as ed milliband stays in I'm happy
Sir Kid Starver
Are you old enough to vote ?
@@californiadreamin8423 posting that Sir Kid Starver has now got the nickname Sir Kid Starver has nothing to do with voting age
